My English Club Mini PD Workshop: The Power of Phonics for Young Learners in ELF Settings (Part 2)

  • Mini Professional Development (PD) Workshop is a programme initiated and organised by a social non-profit movement global English language teacher community, My English Club.
    This programme is aimed at promoting key skills and transferrable skills in language teaching and education in general. An experienced classroom practitioners, academics or researchers are the speakers and facilitators in this programme.
    As the continuation of the previous session, our trainer, Fatimah Jeharsae, discusses the practical aspects in teaching reading to young learners through phonics. The classroom application and relatable resources are shared during the session. Fatimah is a PhD researcher from the University of Southampton and a lecturer at Prince of Songkhla University in Thailand.
    The 120-minute workshop is a mix of presentation and practice. Participants were placed in breakout rooms to practice and discuss the new skills they gained from the presentation.

    My English Club (MEC) is a non-profit movement dedicated to English language teachers in general and volunteer teachers in particular.
    This social institution provides discussion forums and workshops for teachers' professional development. MEC is part of Bangun Tunas Cerdas Indonesia Foundation, a non-profit organisation promoting fair and accessible education and sustainable development goals in general.
    MEC and Bangun Tunas Cerdas Indonesia Foundation are based in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
