it's funny how the folks who get "defensive" over "dreads" or "dreadlocks" don't have an issue with another "word" that begins with the letter n because it's "spelled different".

"DREADlocs" comes from when Colonizers were traveling the world seeking territory to conquer they would always encounter one of our ancestors (We were everywhere) usually in combat due to their attempts to colonize and in those encounters they would often lose and when they would describe our ancestors to their men they referred to them as Dreadlocks because our hair was the most identifiable quality besides the obvious skin color, dread because our warrior ancestors would slaughter entire armies this would create a great deal of fear in them thus granting the name dreads due to the dread or fear it placed in the hearts of those seeking to take what wasn't theirs and "loc" comes from how our hair naturally locs because back then the vast majority of our ancestors had locked hair, there were no barbers or celebrities to copy a style from like nowadays and obviously our hair locks. It is historical fact that the original man and women were black so using critical thinking if everyone comes from Africans and seeing as most Africans back then had locked hair obviously the other races and nationalities got it from them. Rasta was not our original religion neither was Christianity so no the term didn't come from our fear of god it came from the European conquerers' fear of African warriors. Another fun fact: Africa was once one giant continent technically the first before there was division everywhere was considered Africa but it wasn't called Africa that name came later from a European conquerer named Africanus (but that's an entire different topic to trigger people with.)
Very deep and controversial topic indeed. I stop calling my hair dreads a long time ago when I got the real meaning behind it. Locs is biblical plus King Solomon was describe of having locs. Once again great video Queen and this is( Locs of Judah, ) I changed my name on Social Media.
Dreads or locs I'm cool with either one.
