For anyone else wondering , I did the research for you.
Rossi almost lost control on the corner and to avoid crashing, he cut the corner, he said they actually touched during the turn so it was the safer option to pull out. Going across the gravel is very risky too at high speeds like this, so he's lucky to have even made it through. It looks like cheating but it's actually extremely impressive manouvering on two fronts.
Did he not get disqualified for this?

He's on a straight, hardly crazy, what's crazy is how the FIA allowed this and gave him first place, any other FIA sanctioned motorsport would've resulted in disqualification just like V8 Supercars, F1 and DTM.

Man! 36 yrs old at that race. He needed to change his riding style from 500cc two strokes, 990cc four strokes, 800cc four strokes and finally 1000cc fours. Those bikes needed different riding styles. Not to mention From Honda to Yamaha. And Michelin, Bridgestone tyre switch. That old man reinvents himself more than we can imagine in a span of a decade. 👊🏼👏🤯

@@anthonymiles1446no it wasn't. His father raced with Barry Sheen back in those days. Rossi grew up with the greats and rode from the time he could walk. He raced pewee 50s. When you spend your whole life racing and riding bikes, I wouldn't call your skill a gift from god.

Doctor Rossi did spectacular holding through the gravel at that speed and back out straight pulling the wheelie blasting through the finish.
Meanwhile, Marc held that corner which anyone could have lost after that slip at that angle at that speed at that last moment.
Two champions did phenomenally well exhibiting master level control of their beasty machines at that heat of the moment.
There's still more years for the younger generation to pick up and it is just going to be fantastic in the coming years.
That last second blip to bring the front wheel up. Legend

As long as you don't have to turn or brake, it's not that hard. I had a similar contact on a race track once and was send through the grass at about 100km/h and to my surprise, I just held the bike straight and crossed the green surprisingly easy. Fortunately the track continued after the track so I didn't have to turn or brake. On an earlier visit to another track, I made a stupid mistake and drove into the gravel at a similar speed. It just started to become shaky, when I stupidly used the front brake to slow down. The back started tumbling from left to right and in the end I could no longer hold on and the bike and me fell into the gravel. By that time there was not much speed left so not much happened to both of us.
Gotta be one of the greatest era's of Moto GP! If not the greatest, than very close.

To all the F1/car racing fanboys. Cutting a corner, whether intentional or not, is not the same on a motorbike. A race car cutting a corner is a pretty safe move, hence they can be disqualified for that. A motorbike at high speed cutting a corner is a very risky maneuver. Rossi pulled it of because he’s the GOAT, anyone else would have probably crashed. It’s not something even a good rider would plan to do.
Why is it more risky he was just going strait I'm surprised more guys don't do that if you are going strait and you braked into the turn and got strait it seems easier?
Riding on gravel, at that speed, with a race bike, exiting a corner, after being hit by your opponent is as risky as it can get. It might seem unintuitive because he was going straight, but on gravel you just have to be slightly off balance to crash soooo yeah, it's very risky.
And, of course, it was not planned. He thought of that maneuver in a fraction of a second

Mark Marquez senza appoggiarsi su Valentino non sarebbe mai riuscito nel far girare la moto e sarebbe andato lungo se non fuori. Watching Rossi vs Young and newer Marquez was the best of the motogp years.
Tbh, the fact that both VR46 and MM93 was fight and ahead of the others rider are mind blown, u can see even on the last corner, no other riders seen in the frame.

Marquez was and is just a liar and the most unprofessional biker ever run
VR46, a legend of this sport. I'm proud to be Italian like him and to have cheered for him during all those races, even if those years started his decline.
His decline in MotoGp was only natural due to age & the rising of Ducati and other competitive machinery. But even at this point the whole world adopted Rossi because of what he was; an aproachable World Champion who celebrated his wins with his fans. Fast forward to 2023 and as i was sitting at the top of the Strubben-stands at Assen, you can still see a sea of fluorescent yellow & black. With his Mooney racing team he has become an institute and a legend that will be present long after his retirement.

Rossi as you may know rides dirt and gravel on his own personal track . A good racer is well rounded . Starts in flat track and motocross also becomes a good road racer ( official track ) and treats the road as transportation . Racing on the street is for losers . PK
