    Worf getting jobbed so much was so conspicuous that it actually spawned a trope called the 'Worf Effect', which is where you introduce a new threat by having an established 'tough guy' character get beat up by them to quickly show the audience just how serious of a threat they are. Like how Thanos kicks the Hulk's ass hand-to-hand almost right off the bat in The Avengers. Since we already know the Hulk is incredibly strong, this let's the audience know "Woah, this Thanos guy is really dangerous!"

    If you watch the audio commentary for the movie "First Contact", even the writers admit that on TNG "how do you show that an alien is big and strong? Have 'em kick Worf's ass!"
    Patrick Stewart never ages because he has no hair to turn gray (but I think he also keeps himself in great shape).
    Also, whenever Worf suggests something, people ALWAYS shoot him down. There's even a video listing it, "saying no to Worf" or something like that.

    • @funguy8801
      @funguy8801 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, absolutely. It's known that other than Data, Worf is the strongest member of TNG crew. So the most immediate way to demonstrate an enemies physical prowess, is to have them overpower Worf.
      I think Data was often shown to be vulnerable to enemies' technical prowess, in somehow disabling him or to control him.

      actually Patrick Stewart doesnt keep himself in shape. He does no exercise. It is all genetics and life style

    • @houseofaction

      the problem with that there is an entire video of several minutes of him getting his ass kicked, by not just stronger enemies but regular humans

    Troi knocked Worf down because an alien being took over her body. Not because she was stronger than him.

    This trailer wasn’t about having a go at TNG. It’s a love letter to it. It’s like a roast in a a way. The people behind it really are huge fans and enjoy the series to death. But let’s face it: 170-something episodes in seven years is quite a lot and not every one will be entertainment gold. That’s true for every series before seasons became 8 or 10 episodes long and got released every two years.

  • @bobbyclarkston8836
    @bobbyclarkston8836 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I’m a little surprised they didn’t include Worf’s ideas getting constantly shot down.

    Season 3 episode 23 "Sarek"

    I've had the same relationship with the Star Trek universe as you, Jaby. I watched a TOS when in school, then watched TNG, started watching 'Voyager' (the Janeway one) and then lost interest in the series. I did watch all the movies as they released though. In recent years, I have finished watching Voyager, Enterprise, and Discovery. However, I have been reading all the Star Trek novels for a long time, whenever I could get my hands on over the years.
    As for favourite Star Trek TNG episodes, there have been many. One of my favourites is the one where a Starfleet scientist wants Data as a guinea pig and Picard and Riker have to argue in court as to whether Data (as an android) has sentience. 'Mark of a Man', I think it was.

    • @psifla99

    I believe this is just poor timing. The video might have been made even before the news came out. I do NOT believe that Jaby should be forbidden from reacting or watching their videos, especially if he didn’t know. Free country. But if he does know, I wish he had commented on it and explained why he still thought it is okay to react to it. I would have refrained from it for now.
    Context:
    Alicia Malone, Roth Cornell, Dan Murrell, Spencer Gilbert, Joe Starr, JTE, Hal Rudnick, Roxy Striar, Lon Harris, etc. these are only few names among the SJ crew I admire and respect. They are all not working on Screen Junkies content at the moment. People are waiting for 1) Defy to take right steps to fire it’s HR team and establish correct and effective mechanism to prevent and respond to sexual harassment; 2) Defy to remedy known victims for its inaction after multiple complaints were filed; and 3) the cast and crew to take their time to recover from the trauma caused by the revelation of Andy’s conduct.

      Exactly. No one thought it was campy or bad in general when it originally aired. They did what they could with a TV budget in the late 80s/early 90s. So of course if you compare it to the sci fi shows of today, it won't look as good. But find me a more beloved show.

    It's the nympho planet Edo episode in the first season. I assume that the entire planet is an orgy place and that there's certain off limit places since the rulers don't want to ruin the sacred places like a shruberry. So the restricted places that Wesley fell is likely a no sex zone. So the kids&adults can have sex all over the place except those restricted places with the punishment being so severe as a way to keep order&cleanliness for the entire planet.
