The Term Old Firm is now gone ! As rangers were liquidated in 2012. It’s now called the Glasgow Derby
They can't punch an opposition player, they would get a game bans. The Old Firm was legendary; we had players end up in a court of law with criminal charges on both sides.
If you want to see pure old firm madness you should look up the Goldie locks and 3 bears old firm game players ended up in court over it .

In a nutshell Celtic are perceived as Irish, Catholic and nationalist and rangers are seen as British, Protestant and unionist. Think of the 2 different communities in northern Ireland each having a football team to represent them and playing in Scotland. That is what the rivalry is based on. In other parts of the world the divisive colours are black and white. In Scotland and northern Ireland the divisive colours are orange and green.
