Epiphany chania 2024 Jan 10, 2024 On the sixth of January, the Christmas holidays in Greece officially come to an end with the ‘festival of light’ (‘ton foton’ in Greek), also known as Epiphany. This feast day in the Greek Orthodox Church is known as ‘Theophania’ which means ‘a vision of God’ or ‘Christ shining through’. It is considered a very important day for The Greek Orthodox Church. January 6th is also known as ‘Three Kings Day’ in the Western Church, a celebration of the three magi visiting the Christ child. In the Greek Orthodox Church, Epiphany is celebrated as the revelation of Christ as the messiah and second person of the trinity, at his baptism, by John the Baptist, in the River Jordan. Another cause for celebration in the Greek Orthodox Church on this day is that Christ’s baptism was only one of two occasions when all three persons of the trinity revealed themselves, at the same time, to humanity: God the Father, speaking from the clouds, God the Son, being baptized in the River Jordan, and God the Holy Spirit, revealed as a dove, descending from heaven. On Epiphany, the Greek Orthodox Church performs the ‘Great Blessing of the Waters’. This ceremony is usually performed twice, once on the eve of Epiphany which is performed in the church, and then again on the actual day outdoors with priests blessing large bodies of water, sea, rivers, lakes etc. The tradition is that a priest, surrounded by brave young men and boys, throws a cross into the sea, either from the harbour or from a boat at sea; the minute the cross leaves the priest’s hand, the divers jump into the freezing water to catch the cross. The lucky one who finds and returns the cross is blessed by the priest. As the cross is victoriously brought back, the priest releases a white dove, as a symbol of the holy spirit. This tradition is carried out to commemorate the baptism of Christ and to bless the waters.
Hey Lucas ,Wish Good Luck with Dirty washing Laundry , looked like great fun at the huge Event I never seen one that Big in my time there I really appreciate your effort again to show us all with your unique style Cheers Chris
Love love LOVE when the Carnival is in town !! The rides, the music, the food, the games, the RIDES...fun fun FUN. Nice vid...looks like you both had a great time!.
Watching you at the festival made me wonder about a possible video. I know you spent many years in Jomtien and now are in Rayon. Other than to go to immigration with the help of Farrang Immigration (thank you for recommending) and to go to a restaurant, I’ve never spent time in Jomtien and I have never been to Rayon. I’ve watched videos on both, but I have never seen one from the perspective of a first timer visiting. A what’s it like for a Farrang to stay there. For example this area is a great area because there are many restaurants and watering holes all in easy walking distance and many farrangs like this hotel and that hotel because of the proximity, price and amenities. From the perspective of a regular guy budgeting his money. So, I fall back into Pattaya while I’m there, because there isn’t much guesswork and trial and error. The apartment videos are always interesting, but many of us aren’t staying a year or six months. I may spend a few weeks in that area of the country before heading to other areas, so I don’t want to waste a lot of days trying to figure out the lay of the land. I stay in Thailand for two to three months when I go, but time is still limited because I like to visit multiple places. I don’t know if it makes sense or is even feasible, but there is probably a large section of your regular subscribers that would be interested in a Jomtien for a first timer or Rayon for a first timer, understanding that some of the first timers come back to Thailand almost every year. It may help us from being trapped by what we know as opposed to risking our time on what we don’t know. Anyways, keep up the good work and as you say, that’s all for now.

oh, i am finally ready to head over there. maybe not to pattaya, but in bangkok instead. my departure will be in february of this year and i can officially retire in july. maybe once i get situated and do what i need to do in bangkok then i may pay pattaya a visit. may have to get a hold of you and buy you and lan lunch or dinner if i make my way to pattaya.
They should add a religious angle for the washing machines. Tell the customers that they are washing away sin too. Clean clothes equals a clean soul. Your friend could make a pretty baht in Pataya.
Are you implying that Thai people are stupid or something? In case you don’t know, in Buddhism there are no concept of ‘wash away the sin’ like in Christianity. You alway get bad karma for your bad doing.
