Hi everyone! I hope you are all fine!
Today, I would like to share an arrange version of the song "Close in The Distance" from the Endwalker OST of Final Fantasy XIV that I made on both Online Sequencer and FL Studio!
I have made this arrangement on the day the launch trailer was released (November 2021), because I was very impressed by the sneak peak we had, I was like "WOW, what a song, and it's just the trailer version! Is it the ending of the expansion!? Oh no, if so, I really hope that nothing wrong happens to any character because it sounds so wistful and yet full of hope... Anyway, the atmosphere of the song is fantastic! I have to try arranging it!" 😂
I won't tell you where it plays actually in the game, because I definitely do not want to spoil anyone (even if the latest expansion Dawntrail has just released and Endwalker could be considered as "old" by now, I always have a "no-spoilers policy" when it comes to on-going games, that's why I will never choose artworks for a video that give spoilers right away too!)
While I made it on day one, it's not entirely accurate, there are some notes that are not exact when you compare the overall arrangement to the actual song which released later and that's especially true for the last section of this arrangement where I used an electric guitar, as a reference to the full version of the main theme of Endwalker "Footfalls" (from which the main melody of Close in The Distance comes).
It's also not perfect on the mixing, mastering and positionning aspects (especially the drums which are weirdly panned 😅), I wish I had more time back then to polish it more...but at the end, I'm still really happy with the result because it sounds quite good for a first attempt!
It was also the first time that I had tried to arrange a track on day one, and when I was arranging it, I had a lot of fun, trying to figure out how to arrange it in a way that it could be different but at the same time respectful of the original version!
When I was arranging this piece, I didn't know that this song would become so important to me, as time passes: today, it's definitely among one of my favorite songs ever, and it never fails to move me whenever I hear it, whether it's the original ver., the Primals ver. or the orchestral ver.
(If you are curious to hear each version, please be wary of spoilers if you are playing the game or if you intend to play to the game one day!)
In the future, I will re-arrange this piece for sure, but this time, I will be taking another approach, with the new skills that I have learnt along the time! (and it will be closer to the original version!
If I muster up the courage to do so, I will also try to sing it, but I'm not very confident in my voice, so I can promise nothing on this matter 😂)
