      Allied engine crafters always used carburettors instead of mechanichal injection systems, developed by Bosch in Germany, that compensated the low octane gasoline they needed to burn - consequently with low compression ratio to accomplish it...

      Nible and FW's does not match. I think you are confused with the Bf 109. It went from light (E and F series) to extremely overweight (G6 and onwards) during the course of the war. The FW190 was heavy and stayed that way for the rest of the war...

    • @Extirpo
      @Extirpo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SuperWhiteBarry : As I wrote “ earlier more nimble”, of course relative to the later more heavy FWs. The argumentation can be made that the D9 FW was nimble as well, relativly of course. As for the 109s, the late war K4 was the pinnacle of the Messerschmits, with great maneuverablity combined with an exceptional climbing rate.

    • @SuperWhiteBarry
      @SuperWhiteBarry 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry but the FW was never a nimble plane to begin with, yes it rolled better than the 109 but for the rest, the flight characteristics of the 109 are far superior. The FW-190 A4 (1942) had an empty weight of 3273kg, the D9 (1944) had an empty weight of 3473 kg, a slight difference. Compare this to the 109 E4's 1900kg and the 109 F4's 1970kg early models, and the 2676kg of the 109 G6 (1943), which is a considerable and very noticeable difference in flight. Yes the K4 was an excellent plane, still prefer the G14 though. Being 300kg lighter (2300kg) and having almost the same power output missing out 50HP to the K4, and only 12 km/h @ sea level.

    The butcher bird was a formidable oponent to the Spitfire. It's equal was probably only found in the Hawker Tempest and Sea Fury. These planes had loads of power courtesy of the Napier Sabre engine , but they were ' touchy' to operate. Any pilot climbing into the cockpit of one of these, had first to manage the irregularities of the power plant , before going after the Hun. Brave men indeed, yet with the experience, they settled down to fly an otherwise brilliant fighter.

      This BMW was not built under P&W license, nor was it designed using an American design as template. A completely independent design in itself.

    Engine designed by USA!

      I think you are mistaken. The engine was dis- and reassambled in the US. But it had been developed and manufactured in Germany.

      Nope Sir! This was a pure BMW development! Indeed, after WWI BMW was prohibited to continue to build aircraft engines. When that started again, you had to bring yourself up to date. A few licenses were purchased. The legendary BMW 132 engine is based on another engine. This engine was used for example in the JU-52 and did deliver 960 hp in its strongest version. It is uplifting to hear the sound of these engines. I saw a Ju- 52 in flight several times. But also in the outstanding ground support plane Hs- 123 this very robust engine was used. But that's a simple 9 cylinder star engine. But the 801 consists of 2 coupled 7 cylinder stern motors. Clearly so far ...?

      No, nothing to do with US engines.

    Nothing sounds like a BIG RADIAL. If I had a choice between this beauty and a P51 0r spit I'm going with the 190. Better than both put together eight a ace at the helm.
