This movie is based on a true story. Mehran Karimi Nasseri was an Iranian refugee who lived in the departure lounge of Terminal 1 in Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris from 26 August 1988 until July 2006. He returned to living at the airport in September 2022, and died there of a heart attack in November 2022.His story inspired this movie, but also the 1993 movie Lost in Transit

16:14 "What are the Rockettes?" The "Radio City Rockettes" are a famous dance troupe established in New York in 1925. They're known for the precision of their movements, having all of them dance in unison and with everything at the same height, etc. They're most famous for their chorus line where they form into a line (side by side) and perform precision kicks.
Great reaction Sessis like always, love this movie, and its so underrated there are some fun-facts about it. This movie is potentially inspired by the story of Merhan Nasseri, an Iranian refugee. Dreamworks reportedly paid him $250,000 for the use of his biography. In 1988, he landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport near Paris after being denied entry into England because his passport and United Nations refugee certificate had been stolen. French authorities would not let him leave the airport. He remained in Terminal One, a stateless person with nowhere else to go. The airport set built for the film is based on Düsseldorf International Airport. Everything functioned in the set as in real life. There was real food, ice cream and coffee in the appropriate outlets. The escalators were purchased from a department store that had gone bankrupt. Each of the outlets featured in the concourse building was actually sponsored by the real company. There are a Cameo in the movie, The girl with the suitcase that Viktor ultimately damages is Steven Spielberg's daughter, Sasha Spielberg. In an interview for the DVD, John Williams reveals his prior knowledge of the now familiar photo of the jazz players that Viktor has in the peanut tin. Williams also reveals that one of the musicians in that picture is Miff Mole, a famous trombone player and that Williams owned his actual instrument. It was given to John Williams' father then given to him as a youngster. Keep up the amazing work.
The US straight up treats people like they're entering a prison. Having worked as a Corrections officer and seen how they check visitors coming to see their incarcerated loved ones, TSA and Customs often do far more invasive stuff.
🖖☺ The part at 38:06 was quite prescient as five years later, Zoe Saldana would go on to play Lieutenant Uhura in "Star Trek" (2009). 😎 This was the third of five films that Steven Spielberg made with Tom Hanks. The other one I think you'd really enjoy is "Catch Me If You Can" (2002). You're always fun to watch. 😉👍
My college roommate was in a similar situation. He came to the US on a student visa as part of a foreign exchange program from Yugoslavia. That country broke apart while here. He wasn't stuck in an airport, but the political limbo was nearly as bad. Took years to reestablish citizenship with Croatia and eventually a permanent resident of the US and finally a US citizen.

I think this was inspired by an urban legend about a guy that actually lived in an airport terminal for a few years.

Tom Hanks is amazing actor, I find this his best Performance, yet its almost unknown. Yes, I think its better than Cast Away or Forrest Gump in acting wise. In this film Tom Hanks goes so immense range of emotions and to learn Hungarian and Hungarian accent. He is truly one of the great ones!

I think that Viktor studies a Russian tourist leaflet and the English version together to learn how to read and understand English.
Viktor can also speak Russian, while Krakowzian seems to be a less common language from the airports difficulty to find a translator.
"Why would he have his own currency with him?" Idk, ask Canadians. For some reason that absolutely boggles my mind, they come into the states and will insist on using their crappy plastic money just because they're on the border and our business loses money on sales because of it. I've tried to get management to refuse it, but they won't.

Enjoyed your reaction. I don't think Tom Hanks can make a bad movie. One of my favourites is News of the World. Came out during covid so alot of people haven't heard of it. His latest move AMan Called Otto, is also a good one.
You are right Sessis, men's suits can be very expensive. I was lucky though. When I had to get one for my sister's wedding, none of the men's fit me, I am very small. I had to buy a child's suit, but it was only $60. Very cheap here in America for a suit 😁

This is a pretty underrated movie. Hanks does a great job. But I always wonder why they wouldn't let him enter as a war refugee.

This movie makes me think a lot of “Bridge of Spies” 2015 also starred by Tom Hanks. It takes place during the Cold War, when the Soviet Union existed.

Yes it can happen couse it kinda happen IRL also i know in Sweden there are some cases where people have been declared dead but they where not dead so they did not have any details about them anymore so they could not do anything, if you google around about it you will see, its kinda F-up : / BTW when will you do animated stuff again : P those reacts and movies is my favorites : )
