    After finishing the feet: “you should have 48 stitches”
    Me, who actually has the right amount of stitches on the first try for the first time in my life: “I am a wizard, crochet is my calling, no one can touch me, I am a perfect human being”

  • @kittenwizard1404
    @kittenwizard1404 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It’s always interesting when I see someone that forms stitches by wrapping their yarn clockwise as opposed to the generally used counter-clockwise wrap.
    Considering the predominant twist in yarn manufacturing-which is S-twist-crocheting in the conventional way causes the yarn to lose its twist. It’s quite undesirable because it encourages splittimg yarn.
    It can be somewhat mitigated by making sure the direction by which the yarn is coming off of a skein is adding some twist back to the yarn.
    By forming stitches the way you are doing adds some twist to the yarn which helps with strength, durability, stitch definition, and split stitches.
    Did you learn to crochet this way or did you make a conscious decision to crochet this way?
    Obviously it works great for you 🤩

    • @KnitGrit
      @KnitGrit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m actually dyslexic so I learned the wrong way, but I liked how it looked so I stuck with it! I later found out this is a technique called a X stitch, versus a Y stitch which is the traditional way. A lot of amigurumi artists use the X stitch since it does just what you said, and in my opinion is also looks “bubblier” which is perfect for amigurumi! ❤️

    • @KnitGrit
      @KnitGrit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did an entire video showing how it looks every way you could wrap it for a single Crochet, too. I actually like wrapping under and then wrapping over the best but it’s a habit to wrap under both times now, lol!

    I followed along with the video, but every time i decreased, the position of the first stitch in the row shifted so that i wasnt decreasing from the sides of the hips each time. I used a stitch marker in the first stitch in each row (rather than a running stitch marker) and counted the stitches each time. Any idea what happened or how to avoid it?

    First of all It’s a wonderful tutorial, thank you so much for making these. Second, I have a question do we decrease 1 stitch or 2 stitches in each round ? Thanks in advance!

    • @KnitGrit
      @KnitGrit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every round you should be increasing 6 stitches by placing two stitches within a single stitch from the previous round. How far apart the increases are depends on how many stitches you’ve made. You place a stitch between each increase the more rounds you go and then you do the inverse as soon as you get to decreasing.

  • @Courkly

    For making the head, did you ever consider doing staggered increases to keep it more round and less hexagonal?? Or does it matter? This will be my first big amigarumi finally done, but I've seen other videos stagger :P just curious. thanks!
