1940/41 John Deere B tractor restoration pt 60 ( cylinder head fitment and torque settings )

  • Hi , here I am fixing the cylinder head to the engine block and torquing down the nuts . Finished torque was 100 foot pounds , these are the black studs which will take this the steel looking ones are maxed out at around 90 foot pounds so it says in the workshop manual . Thanks for the interest .

    I have replaced a few head gaskets on As and Bs but this is the 1st time I have seen copper washers used under the head bolt nuts instead of lead. Seems like copper might be a better option. What brand is your head gasket?

      jd60palouse Hi JD thanks for the comment , I use Felpro gaskets , they always have contained the copper washers so that’s what I use , got to say the lead washers have always been a bit of a mystery to me I’ve always wondered if it was to seal the stud instead of sealing the threads from the water jacket. .
