    This is a suggestion for a experiment for increasing displacement horse power to do some inlargement of port polishing the intake ports and port and polish the intake ports on the intake and see the performance output and unlock some secerets for antique tractor pulling and winning every time with a john deere B or A or G models

      In the 60+years these have been around I'm betting it's been done. M&W gear company made some fun power blocks and other parts for these. If I recall a B would make the power of an A, and A would make the power of a G, and a G would make 10+ more horse power with a complete setup.

    Did you remove the manifold after you removed the head? If so, any comment on that. Most likely you had to heat the bolts.

      I believe that some some of the manifold bolts broke, and with heat in penetrating oil, I got them out. The "new" head had the bolts out already when it arrived, and the machine shop cleaned up the threads for me.

      I haven't removed the head yet and I am hoping it is just a gasket leaking and not a cracked head. I am not sure where I will buy a head if need be. I live in Pennsylvania. You mentioned a dealer here in PA.

      @Marine-iu3ev I believe it was called Martin's tractor parts or something of the like. It's been quite a while. There are a few other parts dealers, but I don't recall the names.

    Did your head gasket hold up? I'm working on a b right now. Great video by the way!!!

      As far as I know it has. I sold the tractor a year ago and everything was still good then.

    Looking at a fully assembled head with rocker shaft and all, how do I know which valve is exhaust or intake?

    • @BillTheTractorMan
      @BillTheTractorMan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm honestly not sure without being able to look at it in person besides looking at how the manifold sits on the head, and compare where the exhaust and intake lines up with the ports.

    Did you find and use new head bolts ?

    • @BillTheTractorMan
      @BillTheTractorMan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      miserableoldman I used the existing head bolts, they looked good during a visual inspection.
      keep in mind these tractors are going on 70+yrs old and have relatively loose tolerances in comparison to today's standards. over a year later still holding up well with no issues as far as the head gasket goes. I was thinking before I might get the tractor good and warmed up, pull the valve cover and check torque, but nothing more than that. I know it needs valves adjusted or I would just leave it be.

      miserableoldman if you need new head studs, check with New Paris tractor Parts. Richard is a great guy, he hooked me up with a lot of the parts I needed including the RE-manufacturered head.
      if yours are stretched or badly rusted to the point of being week definitely consider replacements.

    what manual did you use for instructions and specs

    • @BillTheTractorMan

      Cody flenthrope I got my Service Manual (IT service manual) from Amazon. I didn't go through the headache of trying to find an original Deere service manual and the IT version is just as thorough if not more so.
      thanks for watching and commenting.

      was the reman head expensive

      Cody flenthrope I called around and got it from New Paris Tractor Parts in Indiana. I got a good deal in my opinion, shipped to my door in Minnesota. it was about 1/3 the price of having the cracked head repaired.

      @BillTheTractorMan  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's been together now for a few months, it runs good and I planted oats today it's it this spring. it needs an over haul eventually, but not for a few years yet with it not being used continually.

  • @claytonjerome7397
    @claytonjerome7397 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would just do it and get it over with

      cost quite a bit of money, I've got a lot on my plate right now and we need this tractor for mowing hay, and out at the historical foundation grounds.
      it will be another Winter project, as for now it runs fine.
