Had the pleasure of being a friend for a time. Great story teller, great laugh. Sometimes lonely life, wouldn't have traded it for anything else I know. RIP Shorty ✌️
Eddie saved Secretariat's life more than once, nursing him 24/7. Without that love + dedication, we might not have seen Secretariat's greatness. I was born + raised in Louisville. Our friend, Dr. Larry Scanlan was picked by Lauren to examine Secretariat before the Derby + prove his soundness. Larry said jokingly, " you'll find out how bad his knees are (on Derby Day).Larry + I were both on the far turn (judges tower + on the fence) for Secretariat's Derby.I knew Secretariat and Riva. They were two of the smartest, kindest, people-loving horses. Fun to be around, loved to play games. They probably got that from Eddie.
Eddie was the Best and bonded as a God given gift and his love and care for Secretariat and for all of the horses 🐎 that he surrounded himself with and will always be remembered so greatly for ..he was actually the forerunner for Secretariat from his humble and sweet care, and love for this horse and played an extremely important role for such an amazing horse such as Secretariat ❤️ 👏
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I was 10 years old when secretariat won the triple crown and I wanted to be like Eddie, at the time I didn’t even know his name .
Eddie Sweat is FINALLY receiving the respect and recognition he deserves, for the fantastic relationship he had with Secretariat, and all he did to keep Big Red happy and healthy. Eddie has been the "unsung hero" for so long, and NOW is HIS time to bask in glory!
I’m so appreciative of this uploading video about Eddie , it’s always a Hero that remains behind at a determined Champion RIP Thank you 🙏🏼 for your care and 💕🐴🐴
Thank you for this video. I don’t think people giving up credit to the grooms I believe that any sweat was secretariats friend as well as his groom and I think when they separated the end, they both got hurt.
I so agree with you. Kinda hurts you know, when you see old pics of them together. It had to have meant something to them both when they were separated
Grooms never get the credit they deserve.. I've been fortunate to work with some good ones... there's an art to it and much more than people realize.... that groom has his or her hands on that horse every day... usually not the trainer.
Is wasn't River, it was Riva Ridge! Riva was my pick for the classics in 72. I wanted him to beat the crap out of his stablemate in the 73 Marlboro Cup. Oh, well. But, he's still my favourite today. So please pronounce his name correctly.
@@sheilatruax6172 her dad was the breeder of both. A small Virginia farm in a state that had no horse racing is handicapped by not have state bred races with supplemental purse money. He didn’t buy them. He’s the hero.
@@sheilatruax6172 I didn’t mean to imply you said he bought them. I’m pointing out what’s to me a very poignant part of the story and totally not understood by the public. Having big budgets and buying dozens of two year olds is the common way to get a stakes win. Christopher C. was akin to an American Tesio. If you’re unfamiliar, look up Frederico Tesio. The tragedy of his dream of breeding a derby winner so magnificently fulfilled just when he can’t be part of it is a big unknown to many.
Thank you for honoring Eddie Sweat. He loved Secretariat to greatness. I hope there is an afterlife and Eddie and Secretariat are united.
What a beautiful tribute to Eddie Sweat!

Well done on this video!!
Eddie should be the first inductee into the horse racing Hall of Fame!
Ok Hall Of Fame it’s time to step up to the plate and put grooms into the hall!!!
Nice tribute to a huge part of the Secretariat legacy.
Eddie Sweat was Secretariat's best human friend/buddy.
Very good video.
great job
It sounded like the narrator was pronouncing Riva Ridge as river ridge. I have Bill Nacks book on Secretariat. A very good read.
I am reading it now. It is a very good and informative read!
It does sound like River, not Riva. Hmmmm.
Love this , tku! Very well deserved ....been there and paid respects ...tku!

@@Trampus002thankfully Charlie continued being in Secs life beyond racing. Eddie was irreplaceable, RIP to all 3.
Beautiful, thank you , ditto....fog honoring Eddie
Wish Eddie took Seth Hancock up on his offer to stay at Claiborne farm when he retired there....things would've ended differently for both.

Who shot those photos of him with this horse in the barn? We all can see that this horse was loyal to Eddie first and foremost. Thats his true friend.
Where did you get the information about Eddie taking notes?
💯

Riva would have probably won the Triple Crown if not for the mud at Pimlico and Bee Bee Bee.
@@stevek8829 And Miss Penny would have had back to back Triples. That would have been amazing!

Dude, you can’t pronounce Riva or Turcotte!! What are you doing pretending to teach about Secretariat?
