    Arguably the greatest? Young ladies there is no argument or debate. Fifty years later and his records still haven't been broken. With a heart more than 2 and one half times the size of an average horse he is the greatest in Horse Racing history. Who knows how much greater he would have been if not retired several months later. It's a shame you and millions more like you are nearly three generations removed from seeing this spectacular event never live. It is something I'll never forget. He failed to win in 5 races: all are attributed to human error. As a nation we were living in some tough times with Vietnam, the economy, politics, etc. Then this horse entered our lives who was so great and pure. It gave us faith, hope, and something to root for making us forget the negativity in our lives. It was my last day as a teenager and as I watched him come down the stretch I actually cried from my emotions and still do every time I watch the Belmont to this day.

    I remember the emotions seeing him coming into the stretch at Belmont, no words can really describe it. There's not a horse living or dead that could have beat him that day! There's always those who want to tear down greatness but there's never been a horse that captured a country's heart (and a good part of the world) the way he did, and in a time in was dearly needed. Facts don't always define greatness, and Secretariat will forever be the goat in my mind.

      I understood that. It was such an over the top, monster performance. His Beyer numbers for the race were extraordinarily high…so high that they really don’t even know how the rate it properly. It was what I call, a supernatural, performance. If you believe in that garbage…at times, I think there’s something to it. There is a power greater than science that rules the earth.

      @laurenurban3942 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      His legend will only become more legendary as time goes by. His Belmont Stakes record will never be broken. His Derby and Preakness record, maybe, but it will take a heck of a horse to pull that off. Sham and Monarchos were never the same after running a sub two minute Derby….neither ever won another race and both retired injured. Today, they have 5 or 6 race careers and that’s it. It’s a whole different sport and athlete now.

    Secretariat was so photogenic. That one picture of him, stepping out onto the track for the Belmont Stakes, is priceless. He looked absolutely pumped for that race. In the post parade, he was practically walking out of his skin….just bouncing along at a controlled walk. He even looked like a different breed….like a super Thoroughbred. I’ve never seen any horse walk like that. Its like the 1967 Patterson/Gimlin Bigfoot film….whatever that creature was in that film….fake or real….I’ve never seen anything walk like that.

The rest of the story …… I honored with making my contribution to Secretariat Park in Paris. My Big Red Maple will be shading the bronze, “Twice the Heart” forever. The stars lined up perfectly the night secretariat was born. 50 years ago today secretariat blew the Belmont away. You have the goat in basketball, football, hockey, baseball. Then you have the GOAT of them all, 50 years later his triple crown still the best. his hooves are planted in the Derby, Preakness and Belmont. Secretariat raced the clock, all horses race the ghost of secretariat.

    Tired of this generation opinion on Secretariat........just research Round Table RT would crush Big Red at the average weight Red carried of 127 lbs when RT carried an average over 130lbs. Red was the best, maybe for his generation, but the Greatest of all time. It is like talking about Hank being the Greatest home run hitter of all time. It took him over 11000 at bats and 20 seasons to break the Babes record.......The Babe hit his 715 home runs in only 7500 at bats.. Plus he only played 18 years and 2 of those he was a pitcher......do the math.... Round Table hands down better than Secretariat.
