It would be 10k nits if the 36,000 lumens were only on a 12"x12" size screen since nits is an area measurement. I think we were measuring around 200 nits off screen.
Mike! Mike is my new friend from CEDIA. He absolutely seemed like he had a blast as I took him around from booth to booth, and he did an amazing job when I'd put him on the spot interviewing some of the manufacturers at the show!
Surly once your getting past 2 subs it's not HOME theater anymore obviously going off the size of my own house smaller in the UK love home theater setup but think this is more of a cinema setup not home 😂
Thank you Jordan to give us your fresh experience from our SR4 system, well captured. Many that experienced this system left evenly speechless with the quality we were able to reproduce in those new untreated sound rooms at CEDIA.
Would you say the microLED walls have finally caught up to high end projectors like the Griffyn? If you could have either, which would you take? Otherwise, great work
That was a big discussion at CEDIA this year. I saw some amazing panels from a video side, but you still don't get the same audio experience as you do with an AT screen, especially if you do a cool ultrawide panel display. The front stage is still missing a bit. I think what stood out to me was that with Christie, the Griffyn was obviously spectacular at 35,000+ lumens, but their M4k15 offered a ton of brightness, which is usually why panel TV seems so appealing. Not inexpensive, but neither is a 150"+ video wall. I think seating distance, screen size, and use case are going to be a deciding factor between the two for a while. but there is still something appealing to the projection and sound experience together, that I haven't seen bested with screens yet. Partially because AT screens allow Video and Audio to work together to increase the experience, and Video walls and speakers haven't quite come together to do the same thing yet.
I agree and I think its going to be a good while before led walls are able to solve the issue of speaker placement. For me too, projection just gives a more cinematic look. I love a nice big video wall, but it just doesnt look as cinematic as projection light hitting a screen
Yeah, both are great brands, and while the Black Swans and The 28 subs were amazing, I was super impressed with the 10" Wedges I got to hear at both MWAVE and CEDIA. It's a ton of clear sound out of a pretty small package. After CEDIA, they are definitely on my shortlist of options for my new theater room I'm starting in November. I think the big stuff was end game, but in my smaller room, the Ascendo wedges and on-wall products were solid and I got to hear the Director and I think they were 16" subs which filled SR3 beautifully as well.
@@Rob_James Yeah, I'm curious to see as well. It's important to have a place where consumers can go. For consumers that are local, I always offer free passes to anyone that can get out there, and ran my contest this year, and flew the winner out to CEDIA, which was Mike Schramm who was somewhere in these comments. I donated my time to teach some classes last year, but haven't heard anything yet about this year. In their defense, just like CEDIA, it's a lot of work to put together, and likely not a lot of net profit for the work, but an amazing experience which is why Ryan, Mike, Rusty, and all the vendors were happy to participate. Fingers crossed, I'll teach classes again if asked, and if not, I'm planning to host a lot of content with all the various influencers, and brands, so while you can't experience the demo, you can at least get to better understand the people, the science, and other things, plus probably get introduced to a local dealer or owner who has something to listen to.
Thanks man! It was truly a great experience. I love CEDIA. The rooms are unattainable for most but just getting to experience what’s possible with the best equipment is a treat.
I can get them for you, as I was chatting with Geoffrey on something earlier this morning. I think they were 10 wedges, and 10 on wall, but not sure if they had anything smaller for some of the ceiling or anywhere else. I'll get you an answer shortly.
Got the list, hope that helps. SR4: Front Stage: 3xBlack Swan (Powered by new AES67/Dante-enabled amplifiers) Side Surrounds: 6x The 6PRO On Wall, 2x The 10 Wedge Rear Surrounds: 2x The 10 Wedge Height Speakers: 4x The 10 Wedge, 6x The 10 Phantom LED Voice Subwoofers: 12x The 28 square subs SR3: Front Stage: 3x Director with 10" woofers, 3x additional 10" woofers, + The 10 Phantom LED Voice Side Surrounds: 2x The 10 On Wall, 2x The 10 Wedge Rear Surrounds: 2x The 10 On Wall Height Speakers: 6x The 10 Phantom LED Voice Subwoofers: 12x The 16 PRO
Actually it was AES67 because Storm uses Ravenna to AES67 and Ascendo is using Dante with AES67, so AES67 is the inter operability protocol between different AoiP protocols, we could also speak to AVB or Milan with AES67 enabled for that matter.
My goal is to have three demo theaters, plus whole home audio distribution, all through one Storm Processor. It's nuts how well it works. I am already in process connecting my ISP MKIII with a Theory Audio setup, and it was super easy to setup. Dante just makes setup easier, and since they are typically Class D amps with DSP and of course the Storm has Dirac ART, I want to show how their room correction can help in a large open concept family room, so it should be an interesting project to document.
@@aiaascendoimmersiveaudioas8540 I didn't realize that in the room. Perhaps it was the processor they brought because I was almost sure mine is speaking over Dante in my home system. I'll double check with Matthew and get back with the options. 😉
I'm sure the experience was exhilarating. To my knowledge, I have not experienced any of the products in the video. I am, however, intrigued by the masking system.
The masking is nuts. It's super fast and silent, and it's one of the few that use an AT material. so that you aren't affecting the front stage when they are being used. Imagine when you use a solid mask, it's blocking the sound, especially the L/R channels if you are moving the horizontal masks for 16:9 content on a wider screen. Seymour is pretty active in the various forums, and although I don't do anything officially with them, I'm always happy to introduce you if you were looking at one. I've played with most of the various screens, and although not inexpensive, it's probably the highest value when it comes to the quality, quietness, and support from the team. My .02 cents.
Easy enough to figure out. The point of the room is being a bit over-the-top, with enough channels that each row has their own surround and height set, and the subs pressurize a room that isn't built suer well since it's temporary from CEDIA. While the Black Swans were amazing, their Beryllium passive or active monitors sound great too, and take up less room, and I'm sure just four of The 28 would pressurize most of our rooms, if not even a couple of 18-2 or 24" subs. I find shows like CEDIA show off the flagship, the best sound quality, lowest distortion, brightest picture, etc. But for most of us, the beauty is that 1-2 levels below is still built to the same level of craftsmanship, which is the point of brands like Ascendo, Storm, etc. Just like cars, I love my 911 Turbo, but the beauty is that you can get 75% of the same performance from a base 911, and for how most are going to be driven, that already 130% of the capability that's actually needed. Plus sometimes, you get cars like the Cayman, that end up actually being better designed for even less money, which is a win/win. 😉🤣
Still very expensive for us mortals.... haha I got an open-box Denon A1H running DLBC ($4,800 altogether) and it's phenomenal for my 380sqft space.. The Storm ISO in this config is $22K all on its own. I have no clue on the cost of everything else though I'm sure it was an absolutely incredible experience. Probably bordering on a Level 4 on the RP22. Absolutely world class. I'd LOVE to have an all-digital signal chain. I really wish there was another brand that had a "value" processor that was digital. Seems like a no-brainer to me but I'm not in the manufacturing space so, what do I know? ha. I know for a fact that Dante licensing is very inexpensive. I'm not sure what the barrier is. Seems like something Emotiva could dish out (with a Dirac ART license) pretty easily with their knowledge of making a modular platform. The Dante hardware is tiny. Easily fits on their swappable card architecture.
Have you experienced any of the products in Sound Room 4?
I've always wondered with extra surround side channels, are they discreet? Or do they play the same signal as each other?
Depends on how the movie was mixed.
That intro is fire! Love the cinematic, music selection and of course, the buttery smooth Broll! This was a KILLER room at CEDIA.
Thanks Michael! Def top 3 rooms for me at CEDIA
FYI, 36,000 lumens is approximately 10k nits. However, it depends on screen size, screen gain, lens used, etc.... still thats very bright.
It would be 10k nits if the 36,000 lumens were only on a 12"x12" size screen since nits is an area measurement. I think we were measuring around 200 nits off screen.
