Narratives are influenced by actual experiences. Almost every interaction with a government official can be scary and dehumanising for us Indians... Rajeev Malhotra Ji's experience shows, how our politicians and bureaucrats treat good people.
Government officials are decent people who become insensitive assholes once in the government...

    • @lajwantishahani1225

Sorry but I don't agree. Let the government do its job in governance and more people like Rajiv Malhotra come forward to build public narrative, which is happening today across social media by individuals and groups like Sangam Talks. If they need funding then WE should support them through crowdsourcing. If they want to build Gurukuls or libraries, again go through crowdsourcing or private investors; anyway, govt involvement will come with bureaucratic control! And if you're wondering what is the government doing? Bringing in legislations like banning triple talak, abrogation of art 370, bringing in CAA, reshaping our education system, dealing with Covid support at national/international levels... besides strengthening our armed forces with the office of Chief of Armed Forces, building regional allies to defend the country from outside attacks. I hope the third term will bring a legislation to stop all conversions of Hindus, to begin with!! 🙏

    • @pavitraranjanswain4010
      @pavitraranjanswain4010 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There is no chronological records of rich heritage. Indian kings / Emperors never kept any recorded incidents or major events of their reign.
All the incidents are remembered as folklores. If you ask about History of Odisha, each sub-division, each-panchayat have their own version of history.
In case of Roan, Greek you will get consistent version from more than three authors. But in India nothing is available. In Odisha there are 6-8 big Buddhist ruins. But there is no historical writings on those sites. Every expert gives their own versions. Whose version will you record in the text book.?
Now at least recorded events are available after 1857 in libraries. The events after 1957 should ne incorporated in the History Books honestly.
In Odisha History recorded events are available after Maratha took over. So from Maratha to Modern Odisha, the history of Odisha available with out any contradiction.

@@pavitraranjanswain4010 there are proper records with logic about some great ones but they are still untold for some hidden political reasons and only some average ones are publicized and that too on priority basis of legitimacy from i don't know who. most influential and powerful and successful ones are ignored. plus many universities and libraries got burnt along with many scholars too and many scripts are stolen too. still i heard some efforts have been made for better history in text books. i'm waiting for true narrative of how crown rule was brutally established by massacres and not a small revolt as potrayed.

@@pavitraranjanswain4010 It's less to do with Indian Kings/Emperors not keeping records & more to do with out-groupers destroying them. The Greeks & Chinese never faced such cultural & intellectual obliteration even during their occupation periods (under the Romans & Mongolians respectively). These colonizers if anything, venerated (& proliferated) their hosts' intellectual culture. The Ms were not so kind to the Indian sub-continent. Neither were the British (especially under the Crown's project).
Al Beruni marvels in his travel log about how Indians had books for so many diverse fields of study. Huang Sung made similar observations on Nalanda.
My conclusion being, India must make every effort to tell its history on its terms. Else, it would be giving in to these unwarranted out-groupers.
India must also work towards geo-politically diminishing these out-groupers & culturally subjugating them (without any major physical confrontation, of course).

Earlier it was called Age of Epics and formed part of syllabus; first war of independence has been used but if you standardize this usage then you are denying the hundreds of battles to throw off the British rule. The difference is that the earlier ones were all localised whereas 1857 was an all Bharat phenomenon.

As a history teacher my experience was of a severe mental block from parents who don't want their children to focus on history as a subject because it won't help in their future prospects. Very few were honest to say that they found it boring in their own school studies. The fact is, our syllabus of Indian History is meant to create disinterest among students. I hope the new education policy will address this but maybe before we get the proposed syllabus (followed up by revamping of school textbooks!) there is a need for successfully reshaping the public narrative.

Mughal E Azam, which was a fake narrative, was a big hit. Samrat Prithviraj was a big flop. There must be quality products for the people to connect with them. What you said got me thinking, sir. Maybe our History textbooks indeed have been deliberately made uninteresting. The practice of inculcating Indianness into kids must consciously and deliberately taken up. Gifting sets of Amar Chitra Katha to young kids of friends and extended family could be a nice way of catching them young doing it in an enjoyable way.

People look for outside validation rather than seeking mutual feedback. Then, people become sensitive and defensive, followed by arrorogance and belligerence, to superiority complex and excess, followed by a sense of entitlemen and complacency takes over, until someone 'colonoizes' you. Owning the narrative is a necessary evil but truth always wins.

The comments at 21:20 ish about how Indians complain about India and society and governance... this is natural human behavior. MOST nationalities people are this way. The answer in narrative building lies in what the speaker has mentioned in the beginning. We need to have foreign correspondent offices for our media houses based in all the foreign countries.
One other sad thing I have noticed related to the above point, is that not only do Indian audiences not have an Indian source for news coming out of the West but rather regurgitate the output from Reuters or AP, but Indians even have to use these resources for things even in our immediate neighborhood whether Myanmar or Thailand or Qatar or Yemen. This is nothing but laziness.

We need to understand how much the English language apartheid state in India is handicapping us as a nation and as a civilization. The reason we cannot have Indian correspondents from foreign countries is because we are an extremely Anglophile culture at the urban upper middle class levels (and other classes only aspire towards it as measure of success). Most humans can be multilingual fluently in 2-3 languages while having functional adequacy in one more. We drive ourselves to be beyond just functionally adequate in English to being technically fluent in English, which generally means we end up not learning some other languages, and thus it closes doors for us. In this way, a deeply entrenched Islamist from Kerala madrasaah system that only knows Malayalam, Urdu and Arabic is a better fit for Indian national interests as he can be a correspondent across Arab world. Now who can be our correspondent to give news and analysis from China? How many Indians are learning Chinese only to point of technical fluency? What about Japanese or Spanish (entire South and Central America) or French? We have to depend on Reuters or associated press to give updates from neighboring Myanmar. That's just sad.

There is talent crunch in govt., lack of will, slow in decision making, fearing talented and courageous people in govt, PM Modi and Shah and cabinet colleagues and secretaries, advisors seems discomfort as they feel exposed their weakness and dishonesty. Lacks 2 way communication from top leadership. Mismanagement various domestic issues.

ALSO, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BRITISH RULE. THE TERM BRITISH RULE WAS COINED BY WESTERN HISTORIANS TO MAKE THE BRITISH FEEL SUPERIOR AND THE INDIANS FEEL INFERIOR. HOW MANY स्वतंत्रता सेनानी (FREEDOM FIGHTERS) HAVE REFERRED TO THE BRITISH AS RULERS BEFORE 1947?
