TOGO ISN'T JUST ABOUT LOMÉ. DISCOVERY DAPAONG THE MOST IMPORTANT CITY FOR THE MOBA PEOPLE NORTH TOGO

Dapaong, or Dapango, means “new market” in moba. It is a commercial city located in northern Togo 650 km from Lomé and 35 km from the border with Burkina Faso. It is the capital of the prefecture of Tône and the Savannah region. The city is twinned with Issy-les-Moulineaux since 1989.
It is a market town and has a small museum.
Population
Dapaong is populated mainly by Moba (48%), Gourma, Mossi and Peuhl.
The population of the city is estimated in 2010 at 58,071 inhabitants, the majority of whom are under 20 years old.
Economy
Dapaong plays a strategic role in the trade of West Africa because it occupies a privileged place for the transit of goods to Burkina Faso, Benin and Niger. The local economy is therefore one of the most important in Togo. The economic center of the city is the market with various shops which sell fabric, millet and sheep. The main sources of income are from craft manufacturing, trade and livestock, and agriculture (including cotton, millet, corn, tomato (dry season or against-season) and jatropha cultivation. Since the 2000s, the tomato cultivation has intensified around Dapaong exporting to Lome a significant amount of its production.
Tourist attractions
The caves and granaries of Nano and Maproug in the hollow of the cliff, as well as the cave paintings of Namoudjoga constitute major tourist attractions.

The town is home to Foadan Football Club who play at the Dapaong Municipal Stadium.
