    I have a soft spot for Blackpool Airport. After getting nowhere with Woodvale Aviation at Southport: aircraft with non-standard instrument panels and being allocated different instructors who wanted to assess my flying, an hour here and an hour and a half there, I moved to BPL to continue my PPL training at COMED Aviation. They were superb and I passed my PPL check ride with Bill Robinson who, incidentally had a pleasure flight business that he operated off the beach. My practise forced landings were often over that beach so that he could assess the beach and crowds from the air in order to decide whether to fly from there that day. Happy days.

    Hi Noel. Another fun video, I was based at Blackpool in the late 1980s with an S-76 helicopter supporting the Rowan California jack-up drilling rig for Fina. In those days, there were scheduled flights in and out of Blackpool from the IOM with Manx Airlines. I have noticed that the upper harness "shoulder" straps in LB appear to be sitting at the side your (and Rach's) necks. In the event of a forced landing with a sudden deceleration, they could cause you serious injury or worse.

    Enjoyed this one, I hung up my wings a free years ago after a scare put me off, it was a big one.
    I used to fly Liverpool to Blackpool at night to see the lights, worth a flight

    Someone I know when in the Low Level (before it was realigned) was advised of "multiple opposing fast jet traffic" - the Red Arrows heading north. On my way to work down the M6 about 7:15 one morning there was an RAF Tornado orbiting alongside the A580 junction. Very unusual though! Just keep a good lookout!

    I’ve just discovered this channel from your travel channel. Loving it so far. As a former PPL holder (unfortunately had to stop due to eyesight issues), it brings back my many jaunts across the UK taking the family. Great times and you’re lucky to enjoy them too. Your lad is a superstar, a future pilot for sure.

    I live right under the corridor, it's really busy, we also get a lot of military flights and at this time of year occasionally have Airshow traffic passing through. I flew it as a passenger with a friend, it was a bit unnerving seeing all the opposite direction traffic quite close.

    Great video, as usual. Must admit I flew out of Barton for 14 years, and therefore used the LLR a lot, but it was relatively rare when I came across other traffic. Also Manchester were incredibly helpful offering traffic info even though I wasn’t actually speaking to them ! It was quite intimidating hearing all of the heavies on the frequency.

    Our family lived in the village of Davenham, Cheshire and underneath the Low Level Corridor so I used to see lots of light aircraft and helicopters using it.

    The runway 13 approach, in winter, can be interesting, you get real lift from the heat escaping the houses on short final, which focuses the mind on how short the runway is.

    Great video as always. With good airmanship and good visibility, the low level isn’t too bad, although many years ago, Manchester advised me of “Multiple opposing jet traffic at 1250 feet”. A few moments later, the Red Arrows flew right over the top of me!

    • @FlyWithNoelPhilips
      @FlyWithNoelPhilips  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fantastic. They do tend to take up quite a bit of lateral space though 😅 Flying around Lincolnshire they're a common sight while practising. Fortunately they often leave the smoke on while they're manouvering so pretty easy to spot them.

    Wow Noel great video as always! I noticed at much of the way thru that corridor you were only at 8-900ft!!!! What a crazy little congested block of airspace! No possibility for noise abatements in that area I’m guessing lol! Anyone not into avaiation I’d imagine would not like to live in that area! Lol

    • @FlyWithNoelPhilips
      @FlyWithNoelPhilips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, yes the ground gets a little high in places. You may notice I tried to avoid flying over Warrington and went for the outskirts, no chance to glide clear if you’re over the centre at that height!

    The LLR has a totally unfounded reputation about being crowded. I always transit Liverpool (never refused) but the LLR shouldn't faze anyone. That was a hell of a float at the end but it looked like 85kts instead of 65 over the threshold!!

    • @samhammond6370
      @samhammond6370 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ASI in G-GALB is actually in mph! So at 85mph it’s about 73kts, but I agree still quite a lot of float, on a windy day it’s always good to have a little extra airspeed though!😄

    • @LewisTP9
      @LewisTP9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you think flying 65kts over the threshold with a 22kt headwind is a good idea then your probably just stupid.

    🎶Every year when Summer comes round
    Off to the sea I go
    I don't care if I do spend a pound
    I'm rather rash, I know
    See me dressed like all the sports
    In my blazer and a pair of shorts
    With my little stick of Blackpool Rock
    Along the promenade I stroll
    It may be sticky but I never complain
    It's nice to have a nibble at it now and again
    Every day. wherever I stray
    The kids all round me flock....🎵

    Tells us 30,000 times, “this really tight and tricky” your mrs was even bored with the constant moaning. You’re in a 4 mile wide corridor, meaning 8 of you could be 0.45m apart flying side by side. Lots of dramatics again Noel. I enjoyed the video though.

    • @FlyingDarkLord
      @FlyingDarkLord 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If everyone correctly follows the ‘Rule of 2’ then Noel is right, it makes this a tight corridor, don’t you think? 🤔
