- Bay City, MI was a regular stop for us on the way to the Upper Peninsula. In 1988 and 1989 I caught this switching action and transfer moves, as well as a road freight coming in from Saginaw. This was during the period when the D&M power was pooled with the CM as they were both under common ownership.
Love the also sound
I remember the Detroit & Mackinac. I grew up in Bay City
Thank you for the video fmnut. I love the Detroit & Mackinac 50ft boxcars and those Alco C425 's. One of my favorite railroads.
You're welcome. Just wish I had shot more, but at the time the road trains were running at night. See my Lake State videos for more D&M Alco action.
@@fmnut ok I'll check em out
Those RS3s have a great sounding engine and P3 horns. What a terrific little workhouse!
Dang, that RS-3 sounds sweet! Modern locos have lost that soul entirely.
There is nothing like the sound of an RS3 rumbling away in a switch yard. Fantastic video!
This is absolutely amazing fmnut! Thanks so much for sharing this and all your other great videos. I guess you saw my request for D&M or was it a coincidence? So many great shots, so many engines, shots of freight, tracks... AWESOME!
Facinating look back.
Love those Alco's when they idle! Sounds like it's idle is set to low, But it's not!
Used to go to sleep listening to cars being humped in the Saginaw yard. Man...... What memories!
i love that classic horn,8:24
worked there from 1972 on the penn central and up until 1985 on the gtw in bay city mi as a carmen
The best part of this whole video is none of that horseshit, punk, Gangbanger graffiti. Kids were better educated back in the 80's and early 90's.
I miss my old hometown, I remember that yard quite well
Love the video with all that ALCO power!
I know what RS3 is now
EMD cabs on those GEs look great!
The rockin' and rollin' railroads.
.......again......priceless footage............
Both are now the LSRC...
wrong.. the d&M became the LSRC, the CMGN became the HESR now part of the G&W
alco...the only loco that snorred
That's an RS-2. This one was scrapped in 2011.
bearbon2 yes, an RS-2 upgraded to RS-3 specs. Still has the fuel tank under the cab and narrower short hood which are RS-2 spotting features.
Was it D&H originally?
Hey fmnut thanks again for sharing this video! I watch it every few days. I had another request, by chance on your way up north back in the day did you ever stop and film any Michigan Northern or TSBY trains?
Only in my 35mm slide days. MIGN was history by the time I got a video camera (1988). TSBY was a bit off my selected route.
didn't CMGN 8801 get scrapped to a accident in zilwaukee?
Yep, Railpictures.net has several photos from 2008 at Bay City with the radiator end missing.
@@fmnut I loved the video tho, Did the DM & CMGN share wenona yard?
@@cadenmichael3217 officially it was CMGN but they pooled power.
@@fmnut oh, makes sense, I don’t think HESR and LSRC do that
@@cadenmichael3217 no, because they're separately owned now. CMGN and DM were under common control when this video was made.
nice
i've done the 8902 is HO scale.
Did you ever capture the D&M 10, it was a 44 tonner with a rather unique Wabco horn with curved bells. We have this horn in the basement of the SMRS but I have never heard it sound as it is now missing part of one of the bells.
sorry, but no. It probably sounded a bit like a Reading MU horn which was also a curved bell WABCO. see my video Last Run of the Blueliners.
Alcos we're known to be good pullers
Were known
I recall the big depot in Detroit but it did not interest me.
Alco RS 3 perfect video nothing else need be said
