There are more scenes of this line in the Pentrex production Michigan Ore Lines. I am not sure if Pentrex ever released it on DVD. I only have it on VHS. I love your videos.
lightnindash 3804 When this video was taken this whole operation was on borrowed time, a few months later the Munising branch was sold to the WC and the RS-3 retired.
Looks like 5, theres someone in the conductor seat too. Maybe a kid getting a ride, ive seen 6 man crews on a shortline near me in the 60's though with 1 loco too.
This footage is priceless in terms of historical value. Thank you, Rich, for covering the LS&I on some rarely covered trackage.
Oh my gosh.... this is so amazing. Thank you for sharing!

Gotta love the sound of an old RS3! Love all of your vids.

My Grandpa helped lay these tracks as a section Forman.
He would say “if a man can handle a shovel he’ll never go hungry”.
One of my favorite clunkers ! Thanks for sharing !
A very nice video! Love that vintage ALCO switcher!
I often went to Shelter Bay, about 15 miles from Munising and I did not know this line was still there. Something new every day :)
man those RS3's were quick off the line
Older alcos load very fast. Great for kicking cars. Gotta be ready with those old gals
Great video ! Very nice ! Thanks for sharing ! martin
Nice to see something other than ore on this awesome railroad. Too bad the alco days are over.

was she scrapped or sold after retirement? the horn relly fits the locomotive by the way
lightnindash 3804 See comment by Kurt Kauffman below.
It was later used by WC since 8/7/1989 & more recently with CN.
Betcha the boys up front flunked their hearing tests.
The 1604 later became Minnesota Commercial. It is now a "booster" unit & is numbered 1-B.Still may be in service on the MNNR.
Awesome video!
Geez, that horn sounds like it's off an old car or truck!
wish they still ran those old alcos
Wow you never see that even on a local these days
Two railroads still operate these in regular service, the Batten Kill and Delaware-Lackawanna.
4 man crew ,today its probably a one man remote controlled job.

Wow,that's a small fuel tank.
Do you have any idea if that was propane or ammonia the crew was dropping off?
So nice seeing rail cars not all full of trashy graffiti! Not even a tag. I remember the old days the only thing we would see is signs by hobos.
What year was this taken? Is this line still in operation?
1988. Yes, now it's CN.
how old is that locomotive?
built 9/1950 as their 1504, later renumbered to 1604.
+fmnut that's cool. great video
nice country side,,, should of had a crew car,, with all that crew,,, works outing then,,,,
Can u still go here and railfan
Yes but it's CN now. The Alco is long gone
