Great videos! Say, what do you think of value sketches? I hear people talking about that, and I don't know. They make small pencil drawings with 4 value blocks of shapes. To better understand the composition and distribution, I think. Is it important? Should we do it?
Great question! It can absolutely be helpful to make sketches first, for composition and/or tonal values etc. Only problem, with persons like myself... it's almost as if after that I cannot get myself to build a painting the way I like it. As if the 'freshness' and eagerness is gone. But: that's just due to my character, I find it very difficult to draw/sketch/paint the same subject several times and maintain a fresh view. On the other hand I encountered a lot of people who really like doing it. So, the way to find out is to try it several times. 👍👍
