Also note the plaque on the top of this car in this video at the Chicago Museum says the builder was Keith "kid" Dean vs the builder Chuck Miller listed in the Wikipedia page but both list Tom Daniel as the designer.. Not to mention Tom Daniels' signature is on most of the toy model boxes from back in the day! Very interesting trivia behind this car! Thanks Lou!

When I was a kid, I had a "thing" for the Red Baron. I built the 1/16 scale version as well as two of the 1/24 scale. I also had three or four of the Hot Wheels versions. I even cut the top out of the 1/16 box and stuck it on my wall. I always wanted a chrome helmet that would fit me lol. I recently bought a newer re-issue, but was disappointed to find out it was a re tool. It didn't even have the Tri Plane :( Tuns out that a lot of the original model tooling from Monogram, AMT,MPC , etc were sent to China

One of these days I have to get there. My problem is that whenever I go that direction for R&R, I always think Rail Road, and end up in Union at the Illinois Railway Museum (if you ever do a trolley bus episode, that's a good place to go. they run theirs).
I'll have to quit confusing R&R with RR, and get to Volo this Spring.

Steve Boros In keeping with the theme of the car, it would be a Mercedes inline 6, like the one that powered a number of German fighters in WW1. However, the plane that the Red Baron is most associated with, the Fokker DR 1 Triplane, had a rotary engine.

Unfortunately there are at least two versions of this car.. this one here is not quite a “fake” as the previous commenter Vinnie noted 2yrs ago.. However The Wikipedia page is correct the real one was made by Chuck Miller.. It also does drive comfortably with two people in a much bigger cockpit with an octagon steering wheel and the exhaust pipes come out the driver side.. As of 2017 it's in NJ Owned by a gentleman named John that collects movie cars like the Batmobile etc. I saw it on a show called “my classic car” on the motorsports Network MAVTV on DIRECTV… the wiki page says “Seeing the popularity of the kit, Monogram arranged to have a full-size version built. It is currently at the Smith Collection Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, Nebraska” The picture on this Wikipedia page also has the exhaust pipes coming out the driver side unlike the one in this video.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_Baron_(custom_car) it would be great if someone could dig in and find out which one was at least the one commissioned by the model company.. Also note the plaque on the top of this car in this video at the Chicago Museum says the builder was Keith kid Dean versus the builder Chuck Miller listed in the Wikipedia page but both list Tom Daniel as the designer.. Not to mention Tom Daniels' signature is on most of the toy model boxes from back in the day! Very interesting trivia behind this story…
