    On "My Car Story" we're in Volo IL on 2-7-17.
    We're looking at a Duesenberg II Speedster in Red Paint.
    The “Duesenberg II” was produced between 1978 and 2000 by the Elite Heritage Motors Corp and successor company Duesenberg Motors Inc. in Elroy Wisconsin. Each one was copied from an original and visually almost identical past car, with Ford Lincoln drive train, and a Ford V8 engine and modern comfort features. Fewer than 100 “Duesenberg II’s” were made in total.
    Today I'm speaking with Brian Grams, Director of the Volo Auto Museum.
    The car's located at Volo Auto Museum, 27582 Volo Village Rd., Volo IL 60073.
    Web site is www.VoloCars.com

      Right - I would follow them if they passed me! LOL I was in New Hampshire a few years ago and one of my favorite cars - 1979 Lincoln Continental (land yacht) went cruising past me. The teenage looking kids were sitting next to the front doors and you could have put three more adults between them. It was like watching a large sofa float down the freeway.

    my father Ron schirmer was the founder of elite heritage motors . he was the one that found and purchased the for me and dies that made these cars original and the duesenburg ll. the original had a coiled leather strap for the shocks . this car has modern shocks. buick or ford drive line. other than that they are identical.

    Under the hood screamed the 70's. Might be cheaper or same to build today if the molds/dies/stamping is done in China.

      Yes, I understand, but do we let the memory of the car die? Our youth have NO IDEA of what history is, I think (in this case) it's justified to preserve the memory and make our youth aware of what beautiful cars were made back then.

    • @loucostabile

      Ok, I get your point now. Thank you for explaining, Lou

  • @darthvadar2757
    @darthvadar2757 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you had a original Duesenberg you could buy parts from Elite Heritage motors and they were considered original parts as they were made using the original dies and tools. You would not lose points at a car show for having those parts on your car.

    Beautiful car. Those cars were bought by people who could afford the ones from the 1930's. They were in every respect authentic Duesenbergs. I think that hood ornament was made by Lalique.

    “They’re worthless, drive like cement trucks”. I mean???? What car enthusiast says that about an ACTUAL Duesenberg??? Lou, I love your channel but that man sounded like a dolt.

    It looks splendid, but I feel a little cheated when I learn that it has a modern (Ford V8) drive-train. I wonder if the original tooling still exists for making the engine?

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paul Standeven, Well if you feel a little cheated the good news is there are more than enough car to enjoy on the Channel so I hope you find many you'll enjoy, Lou

      Would you really want all the reliability of a 1930's engine? Rolls Royce uses GM engine parts, after all.
