Beautiful work Doug! I built the AMT Peterbilt cabover many years ago and the cab mounts were fragile and the cab never set right on them. I am glad to see that the Revell kit did not have that issue. Thanks for sharing this.
Appreciate the build info! A few corrections other than the incorrect engine color and the whole Optimus Prime bit(yep, Freightliner FLT cabover), the turbo......compressor side is correct painting it aluminum; however, the mid-section and exhaust side should be either steel or rust(from heat), aluminum is not used as it won't withstand the heat. The steering box, arm and draglink should be painted chassis color at they were painted as a complete assembly with the frame on the assembly line. The air intake pipe should protrude above the top of the cab around 3-5 scale inches(though it would be obscured some by the ducktail spoiler that was optional) on the flat-top cabs, it puts the inlet into the airstream to draw cool air into the engine through the filter can(which is either painted body color or a simulated polished stainless finish). I base these comments on having been around these trucks for 44 years and 2 million miles driven personally.....keep up the good work!
Last bit of info....the accesdory drive on the left side of the engine(air compressor, fuel pump) is assembled and painted the same engine tan as the block....
Just to let you know, at the most, the rear of the truck will only have license plate, not three. I’m a retired trucker and actually had one of these trucks. Multiple plates go on the front, although in modern trucking, there is usually only one license plate. They use IFTA stickers, honored by all states.
Nice job Doug, I'll have to look for this kw-100 kit. I have the Revell kw-123 kit in my stash and they kind of look the same.I really like watching your vids, Keep up the great work and happy building.
Right On Replicas I built this kit this winter. Loved the hinges for the cab tilt, was the best set up I've built so far. The door hinges were ingenious, with the dash panels! Best system I have Ever seen! I've read reviews on this kit, bitching about the chrome, being bumpy etc.Mine was pretty good,my main complaint was the tires! Mine were real thin and the only way to keep them on the rims, looking realistic,I stuffed them with tissue to hold them open, and seated on the bead.Tried to glue one in place ,but it looked ridiculous! Customized mine with a stretch and a flatbed in front of the fifth wheel.Real pleased with it.
Have this one in my stash waiting to be built. You're right about the cabover kits being difficult to have line up correctly. The amt white freight liner kit gave me some troubles
Right On Replicas I just finished the single drive, it went better than the dual drive but still has some issues with getting the frame perfectly square. I'm sure you'll have better results than I did
Great looking semi.......one question, why haven't these model companies designed any airhose & pigtail connections for semi truck models, i've never been able to find any online.....any suggestions???????
DM, The more detail they add the higher the cost is. I don't think they felt they could compete with a higher price. On the other hand I've seen some nice scratch built detail that fills that gap! PS -if you haven't already, please subscribe so that we can reach more modelers! -Doug
This type of truck is the one that I used for my custom Optimus's truck mode It's only on paper but I will try to buy a Kenworth K100 model kit to paint it to like how I imagine the desing And once maybe I will buy a real Kenworth K100 to complete my dream
To me it looks like Revell got the interior wrong on this kit. With the floor spaces behind the seats and a small bunk, it appears to be the interior of an Aerodyne rather than a flat top. Any of the big cab (110 inch) flat top real K100s that I saw the inside of had a really big mattress with no floor space behind the seats. But I suppose if someone had one of these trucks it would be possible to modify the interior to this configuration.
AJ, For this model I used Model Master Gunmetal #1795 with 15% flat black and thinned to use in an airbrush. Mostly frames are good with Krylon or Dupli-Color flat back spray. PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
Thanks Mitch - I think that the mold design for the Revell kits was pretty good for the big rig kits they released. I just wish they had done more of them! -Doug
Rob, This kits is not in production but you can find them online at some retailers and auction sites! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
I guess these are nice videos, but although I don't expect show quality, color-sanded airbrushed models with $500 worth of aftermarket resin accessories, doesn't anybody even clean up the mold-parting seams on parts anymore?
JB, great question. Short answer - we're not trying for perfection here. We just want to make sure you know where the issues are. You won't get that from an open box review will you! Doug
@@RightOnReplicas not to be rude sorry. I build models to. They are refreshing and fun. Especially when I drove one for 30 years. Already subscribed. Your channel is awesome

Wow! That is nice!😉👍

No Optimus was a freightliner FLB cabover
Thanks MR -Doug
The original in the 1980s was as mentioned a Freightliner.
Freightliner flb was a Optimus
I drove one just like it! 4 & 1/4 Cat!
JM, that's cool! Got any road stories to tell us? -Doug
I have this kit stashed away along with 25 other one I'll probably tackle after I retire
WF, Why wait. If you spend a few minutes each you'll bulid one each month! - Doug
Wrong engine colour - it's not a Caterpillar, it's a Cummins 475hp twin turbo, so it should be the Cummins tan
f01, thanks for the info! -Doug
Would that be the 400 big cam
I love it.😀
Thanks SB, You da man! -Doug

Mitch - Was that one of the AMT offerings? -Doug
Right On Replicas revell
Thanks and that one built up well? - Doug
This isn’t the truck used as a model for optimus. Optimus was a freight liner.
Willie, Thanks for sharing! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
I noticed that the drivers door dosen't fit well at the top
RW, Yes it is warped outward at the top and I should have spent some more time trying to shape it to fit. -Doug
Is this model still in production?
Rob, This kits is not in production but you can find them online at some retailers and auction sites! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
@Right On Replicas awesome! Will do! Thanks!
why do you have to cut the air cleaner stack
RW, It won't fit properly if you don't. -Doug
