Same here. Only mom preferred to use water rather than milk. I guess because we kept kosher and didn't eat milk and meat products together. Then again, with water it's crispier too.

I have made this from Hershey’s 100 recipes. I took over to a lady from our church around 87, she saw it and said “ oh you made my mothers wash day cake”. I said I don’t know about that but I call it pudding cake. She said her mama made it on wash days. It really made her day. Thanks for sharing

Love this! I’ve made one like it that is called Brownie Pudding Cake and the syrup really does become pudding when it cools in the fridge. But usually there is nothing left to put in the fridge lol.
Becky, you are always telling us stories about how GOD answers prayers. This is how GOD answered our prayer: This happened more than 65 years ago when I was eleven years old: I was home alone when someone knocked on the door. A man and a lady were collecting canned vegetables to help under privileged families to have a better Christmas. We were one of those families, but I still looked in the cupboard for something to donate. I found two dented cans of spinach. (Our local grocery store greatly reduced the price of dented can-goods). A little later my Mother, who had been helping my Grandmother with a bit of house cleaning, was now home, and in the kitchen preparing our supper meal. Bobby, she called: “where are the two cans of spinach that were in the cupboard?” My heart went to my throat because the sound of her voice told me she was not happy at that moment. I thought about making up a little story, but I knew a lie would not help. I told her about the man and lady, and what I had done. That’s when she told me that she was planning to mix the spinach together with some scrambled eggs for our supper. Not only had I ruined supper for myself, also for my Mom, and younger brothers and sisters. All I could think was that I was sure to get a spanking, but instead she told me not to cry. Instead she said we would pray to GOD for help. We knelt in front of the Sofa, and I sobbed as I asked GOD to please help us. My prayer was short. About an hour had passed when there was a knock on the door. There stood a man who said he was from the Salvation Army, and he was there to drop off some groceries. By the time he finished bringing everything in from his car the kitchen table was piled with bags and baskets of food. We thanked the man, and he asked if we would mind if he said a small prayer. His prayer was shorter than mine. As soon as he left we went to the kitchen to see what we were given. On top of the the first box we opened were two dented cans of spinach. You will never be able to tell me that GOD doesn’t answer prayers.
God is never to early or never to late but always right on time! He not only blessed your family that day , but set the events up for doing a miracle in your young life and your moms as well! This story is a beautiful testament of God’s goodness and grace (love)!!!

Your potato salad (Tater Salad) made my Pastor and brothers and sisters in Jesus smile at our resurrection day fellowship dinner (smaller congregation, and most of us had no plans, so we met as a true Family in the Lord for dinner in the House of the Lord!). I enjoyed it every bit as much as my German potato salad (Kartoffelsalat), and will make it again and again! God bless you, your dear family, and your wonderful Ministry! When I was in my early 30’s, and a pretty new believer, I belonged to a Women’s Bible Study, and we challenged each other to commit that entire passage to memory. Having never really memorized scripture before, it seemed daunting, but by golly, we all did it, and I can still recall it now, some 30+ years later.

We keep to one portion, and wrap leftovers for lunch the next day. We are praying that God will help us on our diets and lead us not into temptation. I was handed down the same recipe by my Grandmother. It was named Chocolate Pudding Cake. She served it with homemade whipped cream and she served it warm. We had it at Thanksgiving . It doesn’t matter as it’s always a big hit. 💜💜💜

My depression Era mother, made this every major holiday. We called it brownie pudding. Bring back so many fond memories.

I was handed down the same recipe by my Grandmother. It was named Chocolate Pudding Cake. She served it with homemade whipped cream and she served it warm. We had it at Thanksgiving . It doesn’t matter as it’s always a big hit. 💜💜💜

....My Late Grandmother would make this, I was always so excited when I knew she was going to make this dessert. She called it " Chocolate Pudding Cake" and I think when she finally taught me to make it ,I was around 15 or 16 , a teenager. She'd been making this long before I was ever around, lol.
