    I live in London born and (still currently being raised here, I’m 14 nearly 15) My dads best friend is in The Lithuanian [HOG Vilnius Next Chapter] I was invited to one of the Baltic annual gatherings, and my god I’ve never felt better. It felt like home, yes I’m young but it felt like family, I love the idea of travelling around the world with friends with your Harley preferably listening to rock, and representing your country. Its amazing!! ❤️🇱🇹

    I lost my Harley in a mudslide two years ago. I now ride a Yamaha but still keep my HOG membership. One of the major advantages of riding Harley is the friends you make through HOG.

    I know this is a late entry to the party, but I'll throw you my 2 cents on HOGs and groups in general. I started riding about 4 months ago, and I picked a Harley for my first bike. Mainly because I've been attracted to the "classic" aesthetic that they've kept through the years. I then joined the nearest HOG in my area, that is in Perugia (Italy). The group represented a way for me to branch out, to leave my comfort zone in a way. I'm generally very closed, but finding a group of people that shared a common passion meant the world for me, and bridged the gap that my introverted personality could not. It made me love travelling again and seeing new places, something that I never enjoyed before. Perhaps to some people, these things are something they already possessed in their life (friends and travelling), but for likeminded people like myself, the HOG groups represent a gateway to new and exciting things, with Harleys as the common denominator.

    I have been a member for 5 years. I joined initially when I got back into bikes, and met some great friends through it. I have become very active within the chapter; organizing rides, coming up with group activities, etc. I really enjoy it. So much so, I am now the assistant director.
    As to us being a "club": certainly not. We are a group of riders who enjoy the HD lifestyle. Nothing more. No membership requirements other than dues. Hell, you dont even have to show up! I think each chapter is vastly different. Mine is pretty active, and we have a good time. We do several charity rides a year, and you'll find a few of us doing smaller rides with each other almost every weekend. Its kinda like family. I really do enjoy the rallies and meetups with other chapters.

      Sounds like punishment! Punishment for one's right to have a drink and a drive, and for going out to see what one may find,
      Did you make the coffee and put out the cake, too?

    • @oldsoldier181
      @oldsoldier181 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chevafootbrave7875 you "right" to drink and drive? Thats not a right. Impairment can kill others. Its not like we have enough people on the road trying to kill us, with cell phones, getting high, and drinking. Last thing we need, is to limit our faculties with drugs or alcohol, then get behind the bars or the wheel.
      I enjoy my alcohol. Hell, I have been certified as a scotch taster. But, I dont drink and drive. Ever. Its not worth my career, its not worth the life of someone else, and certainly not worth my own life. There is a time and place for everything. Enjoying a libation after a ride, sure. But never during, or before.

    HOG or the Chapter thing is not for me. Got a lot of friends who are chapter members, and keep getting asked to join... Ride outs are too structured, they do the road captain thing and not wanting to generalise tend to ride baggers. Seems like it's who's got the biggest, most expensive bike etc. On a basic level, I think the patches are naff 😂 I ride a Sportster and am in the Sportster Sickness an fb group, much more informal. A great club for you could be the Hdrgb (Harley Davidson Riders of GB), a lot cheaper, no "rules" and lots of regional ride outs, weekend rallies etc. Either way, let us know the route you take!

    Been a member of HOG for 20 plus years, I have joined in an out of chapters. I am in 3 chapters, right at this time, but the thing I tell people most of all, Some dealers give discounts, u get to meet people who ride like you, U are not required to go to any events, but always about riding that is what you have a bike for lIke everything u get out of it what you put in to it. HOG is A Family type riding group. Like anything, wrong people can make it crapy good people can make it good. Even if your a single rider I have a few of them in the chapter, I have met and gone riding with , U dont have to ride with everyone in the chapter you don't have to be friends with them either.

    This is a great question. In the US, you get discounts on various things (e.g., insurance, mobile phone subscriptions, roadside service) for about $50 per year. They have great charity ride events. Still looking for a good local chapter but you must be a US member before joining any local chapters. Seems like a good way to meet other riders.

    Any group or club will be varied .. you can't generalize as you probably know.
    I belong to a club and I choose it because their riding style is the same as mine.. Not that any particular "Club" has a riding style but with in a club there's always a group that sets the pace...
    My advice would be to go on a ride, see if you fit in !!
    Personally I don't like sitting around all day.. l like ride for an hour or two, have a meal and a drink then another two or even three hours riding home .
    Perfect
    I think this is the best way to decide on a club or group to join. Don't worry about stereotypes. 👌
    Enjoy

    I'm in a HoG chapter since my father inlaw is in one. He gifted me patches and paid my first year membership when i bought my first (used) harley. Thought it was something nice to bond over with. But being 33 now. I'm the youngest one by almost 20 years... All retired people. Or business owners only riding the most expensive and biggest bikes. It's nice to ride from time to time. But nothing i'd join on my own. Age diffrence and culture diffrence is a bit to big for me personally. And a big no no for me is going on 2-3 day ride only to sleep in a hotel.... The weather is great.. bring a tent have some fun on your own terms. But that's me.

    Hey Alf, how did you get on with HOG did you visit Thames Valley or Oxford Chapters? HOG has been part of my Harley life for a long time now and I’ve made some great friends. It’s about finding the bits that suit you and the other members that share the same interests. But you’ll find members going for short rides, solo rides, group rides, family events, meals out, rallies, touring etc etc

    • @RevelatorAlf
      @RevelatorAlf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gordon yes unfortunately I’ve not had the chance to go and they basically stopped meetings for a long time due to COVID but they do have limited numbers rides going on these days. It’s just a matter of timing at the moment. Cheers

    Alf Like you I got 12 month free membership with my sportglide, I'm a bit like the others that have replied in that I prefer to ride a lot of time on my own, or with just a select few friends. I did a bit of digging/ enqs with and regards my local chapter, re meetings, ride outs, gatherings etc, not for me I found them all a bit too anal with stuff for my liking to be honest it all had too much of an air of the old hd stereotype for me. A bit up their own arse if you know what I mean. Whether all chapters are the same I don't know I suppose you would have to experience your local ones. That's my twopence-worth anyway and of course as always only my personal opinion , so please don't anyone take offence as non was meant.

    You don’t need to join a chapter, you don’t need to attach patches, you don’t need to go on rides and events. In HOG you can do as you please. HOG is an Owners Riding Group, in the motorcycle club world HOG don’t represent a threat and hold no status whatsoever in that world. Harley Davidson have sought agreement from leading and dominant MC’s to allow the HOG patches to be worn, importantly it must never include a bottom rocker.

    First you need to join the dealership chapter.
    Group riding is the best part. Extra discounts for chapter members on dealer days also a great feature.
    People are friendly and welcoming.
    I have found that there are groups within the group. It can be quite “clicky” when you go off for a ride out, with groups separating and hanging together at lunch stops and you’re left twiddling your thumbs. So not all embracing but still fun riding.
    If you are not living close to the dealership you are pretty much out in the cold as nothing comes to you. I am 80 miles away and everything they organize is based around the dealership with no effort made to arrange things in the wider area that the dealership sells to.
