  • I checked out Battlestate Games' Escape from Tarkov Raid Episode 3. It is fascinating to see the way military thriller video games are portrayed from a Russian perspective.

    The sniper in the beginning is the group leader. Нe was wounded in the first part in the leg. His callsign is "Serb". Because of his health, he took on the sniper role. But this is not his specialization.
    Gestures differ between Russians and Americans. Slightly, but there are differences.
    Typically groups like the Bears wear 12 magazine AK (minimum) in their pouches. And another 200-400 rounds in the backpack for reloading.
    The movie says that only Skif and his dead group (led by the commander call sign "Moryak" (Sailor), who flew away without him, knew the area very well.
    This group with the commander "Serb" (this is a reserve group) does not know this area.

      That is almost twice a typical us rifleman loadout. It might explain the reason they were putting out so much fire.

    i think alot of tactics had to be sacrificed for cinematic choices because the building they are fighting in is a actual map in the game especially the changing room is kind of iconic as its apart of the factory map so liberty's were taken to get them inside the building such as USEC not pulling proper security and the USEC snipers failed radio message

    • @CombatVeteranReacts
      @CombatVeteranReacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      True. The balancing act between cinematography and tactical realism is always tough, and honestly Raid does a great job of blending both

    Sniper that they left behind on Overwatch was Serb, the team leader and the guy who was wounded in the hip in the first episode. My guess is that he already had limited mobility because of his wound and so was chosen for more static role.

    You can see USECs running with ak's just one episode before and even in very beginning in episode 1, reason is like you said, many run out of their own ammo, so they pick-up BEAR's or SCAVs weapons

    • @CombatVeteranReacts
      @CombatVeteranReacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yea. It makes sense as trading off weapons in raid is a big part of the gameplay

      I also think that they could've had those just due to the fact that they're PMC and likely buy their own weapons or they're provided to them by their company. In the footage on the phone, the USECs and the Bears hadn't really fought one another yet until that firefight in the lab in that footage.

    Hey Paul, as a Tarkov player it was so fun to see you do this back when you uploaded this, subbed, forgot about your channel as you did some 40k content and stuff, and now you've been my main source for Ukraine for many months. Fun to remember where the channel started :)

    These videos are INTENSE.
    They do not skimp on the volume, harshness of sounds, and the speed at which things happen.
    And the only breathers are the flashback scenes, in this series I get why they are done as flashbacks just so you can let air in between fire fights.

    And my take on USEC 'cavalier' attitude to security is general collapse of the discipline. These guys are isolated and just had to execute a bunch of civilians few days ago. I don't think they would be at their best selves here.

    • @CombatVeteranReacts
      @CombatVeteranReacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      True, but in lore they are ex JSOC types, so I like to think they wouldn't lose their discipline that quickly. Actually, I've heard enough stories to think maybe you're right

      @@CombatVeteranReacts yeah, stuff that we heard about SEALs in the past few years is very illuminating to say the least. And I heard plenty of similar stuff about their Russian counterparts, so I was not really surprised.

      Yup people in one single squad can change drasticly without lead, command communication or under significant non-stop stress

    I will always admire this series for making such stupid decisions and tactics look so cool and feel so intense.

    It's interesting to see your usual doctrine and tactics compared to PMCs who might be more "lax" and unregulated compared to your government-backed armies. I think the reason why security was so poor on USECs side is because they seemed to be have been settled in for a while and it was heavily implied that any sort of assault on their territory was considered a suicide mission. This could have led to the reason why security was so poor. Humans are a bitch for seeking patterns and routine. You can see how quickly it turns around once USEC gets its shit together and remembers why nobody wanted to assault this death-trap.

    Why series called Escape from Tarkov ? Reason is, everyone of every side is stranded and\or trapped inside completely blocked city of Tarkov, no command no communications, no artillery or CAS, true elite of both BEAR and USEC either long gone or just dead

    • @CombatVeteranReacts
      @CombatVeteranReacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That's a good point. All these guys are probably the JV team, or desperate or starving. A recipe for poor performance and bad decisions.

  • @nick_irteniev
    @nick_irteniev 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like it that despite this is a movie, a clear causation is shown between a poor decision (emotion-driven, unprepared clearing of a building full of well qualified and well equipped enemy) and a poor outcome. Serb was right then in the library, they should've gone back home and fight another day.

    Well, about BEARs "infinite" ammo - some of the USECs Boys clearly using trophey Guns like sks and ak's, probably because at the moment of this series time line they were isolated from supply drops for quite long. But still I dont think that BEARs would be able to use so much ammo, because they was almost dry on that at the end of 2 episode...

    • @CombatVeteranReacts
      @CombatVeteranReacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My thoughts exactly.

    • @CruelDwarf
      @CruelDwarf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My guess is that they had plenty of loose ammunition in the packs to top out the mags between the engagements. So when they shout 'Red', it means that they are running out of loaded mags, not ammunition itself.

    • @CombatVeteranReacts
      @CombatVeteranReacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2
