you prolly dont care but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my gf for the last days :)
Masterpiece! 2: On the Beach ….. 3. Cortez … 4. All the other great songs …,,,,,we cannot choose ….Cowgirl, …..for what it’s worth …..don’t be denied ……..rocking in the free world ……………, ……….., …………………….., …………….., ………………………… How lucky we are! There is only one Neil Young!
My God I'm driven to tears every time I hear this since discovering it one year ago. I kinda knew Neil's stuff - but this is so sublime =it is like the Mona Lisa's gaze - in that its effect does not weaken with the passing years and changing trends. It will always speak like the expression of a pensive little girl, or a sigh. BRILLIANT.
Classic Neil. The man paints portraits of society with lyrical ease. If the world's youth would dig on Neil, rather than Lady Gaga or whatever is passing for music now, the world would be a much better place. Hell, maybe we'd stop rolling over to big brother too.
Was at this show with my dad who was a huge Neil Young fan. I didn't know this song before the show but it was the highlight of the set and stuck with me ever since. Well done for sneaking in what looks like a Hi8 camcorder! The look he gives you at 2:00 is priceless 😆
I listen to Neil's music after the kids are in bed and I am ready to relax for the day. It is soothing, mellow , and some blows your mind . Neil's talent is beyond words . We love you ❤️ Mr Neil ❤️
Saw him during this tour back in '07. My father had passed just two weeks prior, and my unlce had extra tickets so he invited my mother and I. I wasn't familiar with his work then, but it was wonderful experience. I remember getting chills during this song, particularly "It's easy to get buried in the past... Ambulance can only go so fast" bit. Thanks, Neil, for unknowingly helping me through such a tough time.
Jimmy Newark it brought tears to my eyes when he played it in NY City Palace last show of the 2007 tour. I went down to the City last minute after seeing the show in CT a couple of weeks prior. He didn’t play this in CT but he added it in NY
I was further back with my girlfriend (now wife of 10+ yers) and have just stumbled upon this video today! I was lucky to catch Neil again the following year at Glastonbury. I can die happy :)
Guitar, body, harmonica and voice in perfect harmony. Raw emotion. He's different from when he was young - now he's a another version of mesmerizing. A true living legend. This is better than the original 'On the Beach' version.
This is an unbelievably deep song, and what an amazing performance ! A lament for all the hope of the 1960s which was crushed in the Nixonian regime, to be followed by Reagan/Thatcher and then Blair/Bush. Like all Neil Young's best stuff (listen to the "Tonight's The Night" album) this is both deeply sad and oddly strengthening.
I´m so impressed that this Ambulance Blues and the whole Album is so alive these Days! I remember when it was released and (at least in Sweden as I could see) it was seen as a "Disappointment album" because Neil didn´t deliver what was expected. Myself I thought it was really great and still today I Think this album is fantastic! It´s so good to see that this is something he keeps alive in "modern times"! Great! Thanks for uploading!
its hard to say the meaning its easy to get buried in the past we just trying to make a good thing last one of the greatest songs it gets inside and you start to walk that rythm for years. not many musicians today can do that to you. i think hes pretty good.
this is the best audience shot video I've ever seen. Captures the essence of the man and the song. Though the performances are miles apart this song always brings to mind John Coltrane's A Love Supreme. A level of genius that blazes a trail way beyond the ordinary.
I've been listening to "On The Beach" in my truck almost constantly lately. Have always loved this song, haven't seen many live versions, thanks for posting this one! Neil is great and "Happy Birthday, Neil!" (yesterday)
yes, i relate to this album more than any other. It is beautiful. Tonight's the Night, and Journey Through the Past are two others that I think are overlooked.
so fucking good. brings tears to my eyes every time i listen to this song. it took 20 years, but i decided this is my favorite song of all time. i saw him about 7 months later in spokane, and this is exactly how it looked when he played it. one of the best times of my entire life.
seen neil at the s.e.c.c. in glasgow scotland some years back. always been my all time favourite. (V.mrrsn and P.gbriel a close second) does anyone else play the harmonica like him?!!? every time he blows it, it's like a song within a song!! excellent stuff. as usuall. K.O.R.I.T.F.World.
I have been looking forward to view a good Video this song for a long time. the Best Live Video I have seen. I saw Neil in November at Massey Hall, "Back in T.O (Toronto) keeping jive alive"
What a great tune ."i guess i,ll call it sickness gone ,its hard to say the meaning of this song " Its still amazing that this album along with Tonights the night and Time Fades Away released after Harvest Neil Youngs best selling album were critically slaughtered at the time .I loved them though, me mates at the time thought i,d lost it.They must have been distracted around then with The Eagles ,ABBA ,Jefferson Airplane and Peter Frampton. Most of em now in their lucid moments love Neil Young xx
I was having a bit of a 'wake and bake', smoking a fat one this morning about 11am.I just heard this on radio 'Radió Na Life' - an Irish speaking radio station here. It was my first time hearing it and I googled some lyrics to find out the name of the track. I was suprised how long it goes on for. That radio station is so cool. One mintute you hear a 10min Neil Young then later it could be some sweet electronica. This track is sound!
What can I say ? Unbelievable genius - the song for all of us who still want to retain some idealism in the face of the post-Thatcher/Reagan/Blair/Bush world. I hope you can all call it "sickness gone". Music at it's very, very best.
j'aurais préféré une version plus ancienne (nous vieillissons tous) mais sa voix , plus grave, n'a rien perdue de son humanité : le morceau est toujours aussi fort. arnaud decachin
I live in Los Angeles along the beaches always have, years ago Neil and Crazy Horse upto Topanga Canyon some barn looking venue I never dreamed all these yrs later it was just up this winding road from HWY 101 so many greats my daughter thinks I am so lucky there was the Ash Groove all the places on Sunset Bld. - Maybe I did get lucky again yes The Beatles, The Doors playing around town Venice Beach lol - what a ride with my main man Neil, the songs I played my alter ego - Bye
great, done, as Neil has said, in the style of Bert Jansch...his 'Needle of Death' is here on youtube...it's like a faster version of this....but Neil's true genius is that from it he took something, which inspired this song and Needle and the Damage Done...and the rest is history
@PeteMac2009 He opened with Ambulance Blues? That's an interesting choice hahaha...I LOVE the song, but I imagined it as a midset song, or maybe right before the encore.
" I never knew a man could tell so many lies He had a different story for every set of eyes. How can he remember who he's talkin' to? 'Cause I know it ain't me, and I hope it isn't you." Could be talking about Willard Rmoney!!
"An Ambulance can only go so fast, (cough cough)". Hope Neil isn't waiting too long. Great song, pity he didn't play it in Cork 2008. Here's hoping Dublin 2009 will be different.
It is about the entertainment business. I see the first verse being about Woodstock, mainly. And how that scene became industrialized and phony and how CSN etc became dinosaurs by not changing with the times (see: Thrashers five years later.) Later verses are about other players who had a hard time with Neil not playing the game. But how simple is that harp part yet SO melancholy and evocative? And on an old Martin D-18 too. One of the all-time greats.
On the Beach and Zuma. Neils 2 best. ''I read today In the Entertainment section, Theres room at the top, for Private Detection but your Mum(Mom) and Dad it just doesnt matter, but its either that, or pay of the Kidnappers. I love you Neil; Long May You Run.
yep great look there...saw a similar one at a show in Alburquerque in 2000, the house video guy was filming near the front of the stage, from the floor..and getting too close to Neil's backup singers..his wife and sister....Neil was weilding his Les Paul like a lumberjack and shot that guy a look that could kill....he backed off ..ha
It was a great song. Too bad Neil flipped out with his faucci-love. Made me lose all respect for him. He could have taken his stand against iraq/afghan/syria, etc. But no, he takes his stand for big-pharma and the covid scam. Makes me feel stupid for thinking he was wise in my youth
He is the whole reason why I play the acoustic guitar...
you prolly dont care but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my gf for the last days :)
@Harper Karsyn Yea, I have been watching on instaflixxer for years myself =)
Masterpiece!

There is only one Neil Young!
Top 10 greatest rock songs of all time. I truly love this man, this artist.
My God I'm driven to tears every time I hear this since discovering it one year ago. I kinda knew Neil's stuff - but this is so sublime =it is like the Mona Lisa's gaze - in that its effect does not weaken with the passing years and changing trends. BRILLIANT.
Driven to tears?
Nothing short of a living legend. He is pulling out the Neil Young tour that will be talked about for years.
Classic Neil. The man paints portraits of society with lyrical ease. If the world's youth would dig on Neil, rather than Lady Gaga or whatever is passing for music now, the world would be a much better place. Hell, maybe we'd stop rolling over to big brother too.

Haunting chord progression. Neil's the greatest!
Videos like this one are why I love youtube.

Neil is beyond most of us mortals...
Guitar, body, harmonica and voice in perfect harmony. Raw emotion. He's different from when he was young - now he's a another version of mesmerizing. A true living legend. This is better than the original 'On the Beach' version.
Neil looks always on the edge of missing the lines, but he comes and keeps a calm pace. amazing. On The Beach is great!
This is one of the most bittersweet songs/albums.
I was there.
Was a bit late but this song just started as soon as i walked in.
I was about three rows back from this angle.
Amazing.
:)
n
My favorite cut from a very overlooked yet beautiful album.
I miss the guy on the violin on the recorded version. It still makes me cry.
Brilliant version of a superb song! I wish I could have been in London! Thanks for posting!

reagan /thatcher /bush / biden ... illuminatis , new order !
My favorite song when it is my turn to drive the late shift on a road trip....
This comment gives such a chill vibe

This is a painting of sound, spirit, lyric and soul! Long one of my favorite Neil Young songs.
Excellent Neil tune. Underrated, too. Good to see he's still playing it.
this is the best audience shot video I've ever seen. Captures the essence of the man and the song.
Though the performances are miles apart this song always brings to mind John Coltrane's A Love Supreme. A level of genius that blazes a trail way beyond the ordinary.
You know that you’re an esteemed artist when Bob Dylan mentions you in his recorded music and Live concerts. The song is Highlands

Whomever gets your ear fist first will inevitably lead to the other whether Bob or Neil you're in the right place.
Always awesome!!!! From Belo Horizonte/Brazil
Sounds like my kinda radio! I want to start a station like that some day..
and such beautiful harmonica.... as perfect as on the record... although I do miss those run downs done with cello )))
I was listening to this without watching , I thought it was the studio version , it sounds exactly like my CD. Unbelievable its 2008 live!
still burning... amazing.

I was at Manchester on Wednesday. Magical. This was highlight of first half. No Hidden Path and Tonight's The Night highlights of electric set.
Was at that gig, incredible half acoustic half electric.Equally superb
Leah Hughes same here in manchester, amazing night
Glad you like it. I've put Hey Hey, My My up too. It was indeed a great show.
Peace Peace Peace...one of the most beautiful...
And don't forget American Stars and Bars. Will to Love has to be one of his deepest and unknown masterpieces.
Fantastic video! Thanks so much for filming...:-)
I was there."its easy to get buried in the past"

jimmy
...Also, this song changed my life.
Guys, it comes from the classic albut On the Beach. Check it out.
Great song! Intro made me think of 'Feel the love', from the CSN&Y '88 album 'American Dream'.
What can I say ? Unbelievable genius - the song for all of us who still want to retain some idealism in the face of the post-Thatcher/Reagan/Blair/Bush world. I hope you can all call it "sickness gone". Music at it's very, very best.
