    Trevor Wittman is a world-renowned striking and combat coach. This is an excerpt from SECRETS TO COUNTER FIGHTING available from DynamicStriking.com.
    Dynamic Striking was started by a pair of black belts (Bernardo Faria & Michael Zenga) who feel that nothing is more important than improving your striking skills as much as possible in the least amount of time. Their aim was to create a shop for students interested in striking who don’t look at mixed martial arts as a sport - but as a lifestyle.

    The way Justin is so eager to jump in to add a point on top of Trevor teaching it seems he will starting a coaching career as soon as he retires from fighting.

    Calling it “collision” is perfect! In a fight you have to put yourself in danger to put your opponent in danger, typically. So find the angle and set up the ideal collision. Sure you may get your paint scraped off but with a good set up you can total their entire car.

    Self Notes:
    - as we move what arm, I'm making him strong, so I'm waiting for this arm so I'm able to counter.
    - set up giving him a spot to hit, pulling my head out of range when he shots causing him coming into my shot.
    - moving leg outside the opponent waiting for movement it will be easier as he needs his head turning towards me.
    - upper cut is much better picking his head up and out as he can't use his shoulder as a brake to hold head in place.
    - Drive him into my shots
    - counter to cross: ■ go inside and pivot to gain conventional stance
    ■ go southpaw & shooting straight shots
    ■ back and sit

    I thought of a new way to set up a counter punch that I’d like to share. A great way to bait an opponent into coming forward with a punch is to stand still (momentarily). Most people will take a stationary target as a free invitation to come in with an attack and you can counter off that

  • @ucraznmonkey
    @ucraznmonkey ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is good stuff.
    It shows that Dustin can beat you by being a better athlete.
    It shows that Khabib can beat you by having a more dominate style.

    If you are moving right I will throw a left hook and if you are moving left I will throw a looping right hand. If you're moving right you are choosing to battle the jab and left hook etc taking the right hand out of play. It's called splitting the body and fighting one hand.

    I notice whenever I get an angle such as the one to set up the crash from the right hand my training partner or opponent always seem to disengage and back away, not giving me an opportunity to set them up for a counter shot, rather I find myself chasing them momentarily to land as they back off. Is there any way I can coerce my opponent to be willing to throw from a compromised position?

    I have a question though:
    Is parrying even that feasible with 4oz gloves on? Of the thousand fights I've watched I don't really recall one with any significant parrying. It seems like it's much easier in boxing because a) the average hit is only half as hard and b) the glove is a much bigger parry target. Just a thought. I parry when MMA sparring with 12, 14 or 16 ounce gloves, but yeah the few times I've sparred with 7 ozers I don't think I parried once.

  • @nicksmith5400

    I don't understand - if you're to my left why would I throw a right hand vs throw a left hook? As he said you need to open up to make the right so why would I throw the right vs having them run into my hook?

    • @nicksmith5400
      @nicksmith5400 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Looking at the overhead view sure a hook is far but I'm going to step left as I throw it. Or honestly I'm just going to throw a left kick instead.
      A right is more powerful but you have to turn to make the shot vs just cut them off and make the hook. They're the experts but it doesn't make sense to throw a right if he is a mile away to begin with

      Yeah, this whole video assumes that the fighter coming after you doesn’t jab of feint at all.
      Then again, the average MMA fighter does.
      This whole concept makes striking needlessly complex and random.

    Trevor is the very best in the business as far as I’m concerned.
    He and Gaethje work so well together.
    I’m sure Justin would be an easy man for anyone to train tho.
    Doesn’t let his ego get in the way of learning and always improving
