    Haha, I like your technical term at 6:21, "Just snip that crap off, you don't need it". Could be on a t-shirt. I agree with training them on a pole. They grow much faster and I like the bigger leaves. I stole your name for them and told a friend that "My pot hoes have been working the pole over the last few weeks." As always, thanks for the laughs.

    My mom has some pothos that she has had since before I was born. I am impressed that they can last so long. The plants may be about 33 years old I'm 32 and always remember them being in the house. That's why I want one so much but as I mentioned in my other comment I always kill them. I am not good with indoor plants.

      JulV Wildcat my parents have one from 1974 or 76 somewhere between there. They use to wind it around the living room and let it drap down into the fish tanks around the room. It was cool to grow up with a living living room.....

      Most plants don't have the genetics to die like we do. They also can't get cancers since their cells cannot undergo metastasis. And they don't really have central organ systems like us and can survive from just their arm or leg! That's why they seem to live forever :)

    Fell in love with pothos when I noticed a giant one growing on a tree while rollerblading in my neighborhood! 😍 Turns out it was a golden pothos, now I’m an owner of a marbled queen! It’s my newest addition, but the one I’m most excited about - which is why I’m here!

    My mum's had a golden pothos for about 20 years, and it was really sad and ugly, because she'd kept on the south-facing windowsill and never repotted. I got into plants only recently and took me a while to realise that the sad woody creature in my mum's bedroom was what I had wanted for my room. Since then, I've given it a radical makeover, pruning all the woody vines, cutting off the leaveless parts and putting the leavy cuttings into a fresh soil. I'm generally a cactus killer so I had no idea if I'm not murdering the poor thing (had my mum's blessing, though - she thought the plant was ugly and considered throwing it away), but so far it seems to have taken and become a really bushy plant :)

It's the plant I always use when I want to try new things ;-) It grows happily outside (I don't live in the US but my temperature range is somewhere in zone 9) but my terrace is very sunny and I need to give it shade. Yes, I have Pothos. I think 4 different varieties.
    I agree, very much, with the cleaning of the leaves but I suggest not putting anything but water on them for general cleaning. it causes the dust to stick to them even more than usual. That's what I have come to realize.

    Zone 9B, no problem, they're pretty common in the older areas of Tampa growing up trees. There is a third color form they call Neon, which has kind of chartreuse color leaves.

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the neon! I haven't seen them for sale in person, but when i do, i'll be getting one! I was going to say i really thought i had seen them in central florida also, so i wasn't believing the zone 10 claim on most websites.

    • @michaelmccarthy4077
      @michaelmccarthy4077 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen the neon at either HD or Lowe's, I forget which one gets from Costa Farms, but I think we get different plants in FL. What I find amazing is that there are even different color forms, Pothos lacks the ability to flower so the only way to get different colors is by chance mutation in a stem (of course it is possible that the mutations are produced unnaturally by zapping them with radiation or treating them with some chemical). NEway, I can attest personally to Golden Pothos growing just fine in 9B. There is a large one growing up a tree on Gibsonton Dr just east of US 41, I think it is across the street from the fat lady's house (bright pink, can't miss it) IIRC.

    • @TropicalPlantParty

      Hello! That is usually a sign of dry air, or being near a breeze or draft that is blowing the moisture from the foliage. The other possibility is that it needs some more watering. 😊

  • @MyLovelyMocha
    @MyLovelyMocha 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I purchased a lovely marble queen that is mostly white just like this video. However, about a week or so, I notice the once white variegations on several leaves are now looking more yellow! The green parts are intact and look fine. ☹️☹️ I've place it SW facing window (lots of sun) and watered only once after totally drying out. I know to keep white variegations, u must give it light which I did. Any idea what could be causing white becoming yellow?

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Your cat in your picture is adorable! ... There are a lot of factors that can contribute to the loss or change in variegation. Temperature, acidity in water and/soil, excess nutrient, nutrient deficiencies, lighting etc... Mine gets some yellow in the winter months and it goes back to white when I move it outside in the summer, so for mine i think it is the lighting and temperature. Adding a tablespoon or two of epsom salt to a gallon of water when watering variegated plants can help them some, increases the green and helps them withstand higher light conditions. I'm sorry I can't give you a more and clear definitive answer. I will look into it further though and let you know if I find anything else out. :)

    I have a Golden pothos that I bought from Home Depot. Once the weather started getting colder and the soil took longer to dry I noticed it kept getting root rot so I repotting it. I noticed it’s original soil was packer tight and have no air ventilation so it stayed wet for too long. Now that I’ve changed it’s soil a lot of leaves have been wilting off and idk what else to do! It’s been about 3 weeks since I changed the soil, the top of my pot used to look bushy and now it just looks sad

      Kurimu Neko 😞 idk, it’s been another week and now even the cuttings I put back into the pot got root rot. I don’t even remember what I last watered it but I guess the soil wasn’t even drying out cause it had no air flow like he mentioned in the video. I’m nervous to put it outside though to get more air cause I don’t have anything to fight pests either. Probably also doesn’t help that it’s been raining/cloudy for a month so the sun hasn’t been out in a long time

    This is one plant I always manage to kill indoors. I really don't know why

      Hi Caroline! Indoors, unless they are receiving a lot of light and warmth they don't need or enjoy as much water as they do outside. Is the soil staying wet for a long time between waterings?

      @@TropicalPlantParty I generally plant them in potting media and so I water it only once a week. But it sits directly below a ceiling fan could lowhumidity be a reason
