    This is the kind of thing that happens when kids don't feel successful and nobody does anything about it. Video games create a sense of achievement and accomplishment. This can be an emotional crutch if left to fester.

    Wished parents would just let the kids speak without interrupting. OMG. I’ve always allowed my children to speak to me without interruption. We have a wonderful relationship today - 2 beautiful productive law-abiding educated young adults. So proud of my kids. No, not perfect, far from perfect just gave our children boundaries with the option at a teen age to talk about what’s important to them but still with boundaries they understood were there until they moved out on their own.

    FIRST KID THAT ACTUALLY ADMITS HIS MISTAKES!!!!! ON DR PHIL!!!!!!!

  • @BigJMC
    @BigJMC ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dr Phil completely missed that gaming is a symptom of the problem, not the cause. He was clearly going to school and doing band activities before stopping suddenly and staying home all day. It’s obvious that there’s external pressure that Jake is not coping well with, which is why he also gets aggressive when his games are taken away because video games suppress pent up emotions. If video games are completely taken away from Jake he’s going to jump to another addiction or issue to cope with his issues. Coping mechanisms training and couching would massively been more beneficial then video game addiction therapy.

    I never missed a day of school unless I had a REALLY good reason, like being sick or if I had an appointment (which was rare) and my parents (who were of ethnic minority background) were always about education like every parent should - like I didn’t have that option or choice to miss school voluntarily😂
    Like I know he’s using video games as a way to cope with his parent’s divorce, which in turn has now become an addiction and is now missing school because of it.. I understand it from his perspective
    But when I hear stories like this, like I knew I would’ve had my backside whooped for even thinking about missing school voluntarily - like no matter what was going on at home, I knew that I had to go to school regardless😂

    No we all have things that could of been better when we are kids but it's lack of rules that have to be followed! If he had his electronic gadgets taken away every single time he is wrong he wouldn't be like that.staying up all night more than once per month is going to ruin his sleep patterns and have behaviour issues from that! Lots of kids are doing this so puts the parents in a bad situation if your kid is left out but there must be a limit and they have to know where that limit is,if I sneaked and stayed up late playing video games I sure would not dare let my parents know and definitely not play up because of it! I know that servere punishment is frowned upon now adays but kids do need to know that there is a limit they can't cross!!
