Wow, Jack, what an incredible year of music you've had, despite the major workload in the later months - and this countdown is a powerful reminder of just how many fantastic pieces - both remixes and originals - that you've created in 2021! Not gonna lie, that description hit extremely hard, both because of how personal and heartfelt it was, and how much I was able to relate. The early part of the quarantine was, for many, a catalyst to either get serious about producing music, or to get started... I'm part of the latter group. And honestly, this is single best thing I've ever become a part of. Being able to create my own renditions of beloved video game themes is a huge joy in itself, and something I take enormous pride in. But it wouldn't be half as fulfilling without this amazing community, and I'm so glad to have met you! You've been wonderfully supportive and encouraging since we first interacted... wow, a year and a half ago! I can't begin to express how much I appreciate the kind and thoughtful comments you always write, and that you take such a sincere interest in other people and their work. Thank you, truly. I imagine it's tough to go from having loads of downtime to having a jam-packed schedule in just a short transition period. But man, you'll keep doing this, and you'll find the time. I'm only in my second year of teaching in my particular school, and I have on average 3-4 hours of work each day outside of the normal school schedule. In spite of this, I still somehow manage to pour untold amounts of time into remixing (probably far more than what's warranted...) I say this not to elevate, compare, or martyr myself; rather, my sincere hope is that you'll find it reassuring to know that even heavy teaching schedules leave plenty of time for DAW work! I'm sure you'll find yourself having increasingly more available time as things are taken off your plate (i.e., grad courses), and as you become more routinized and established at work. I mean, yeah, realistically, you may never have the degree of free time that you had in 2020-21... but I think you'll find that there will be more opportunities to pursue this passion in the coming years than you anticipate! (and if I turn out to be dead wrong, you can come back here and roast the heck out this comment) Now, regarding your remixes, you likely already know that my favorite is still your Morning Dew remix - that one is just too nostalgic and hits on a different level for me. That said, it is really hard to pick any specific runner-ups, but looking back on the extensive list of gems you've produced this past year, I would have to say that your Rustboro City, Shiver Snowfields, and Ilia's Theme remixes are among my favorites. And of course, your Mega-Collab of Champion Iris' Theme was absolutely stellar! I know I kinda laid it all out here, and it might've been a bit much, but hey, that's what this is all about for me - meeting genuine people, and making heartfelt connections! I hope that I can be a part of your community for a very long time to come, my friend. Here's to a serendipitous 2022! 🌟
Equalyze--thanks for such a heartfelt comment! I really appreciate the community here as well and I'm glad you're a part of it! It's also great to hear from your perspective, that gives me more optimism that I will be able to continue making music for as long as it's fun for me, and that's all I really care about. It has been a wonderful experience so far sharing my ideas with a small community here, so thanks for being along for the ride! I'm still so glad you enjoyed that New Bark Town remix so much! It didn't make my top 10 (obviously) but it's definitely one I enjoyed working on, and it has a special place in my heart as one of the first remixes I ever created!
I absolutely loved this playlist and omg the music community we are part of is so wonderful, I can only express how much you all mean to me 🥺 you all helped me get through the toughest part of my life. I was telling my mom about the Nintendo winter megamix (she was with me during the live premier) and I was going through extreme depression during that time, but you all helped me get through it!!! I'm looking forward to a great 2022 with you all !
So glad to hear you are being blessed by this awesome community! We are all here for each other and hoping to lift each other up even in small ways with our tunes, so we’re very glad to have you around!! 🙏🏼
