Absolutely lovely!
Woah, you guys, this is incredible!! I love the whole concept of Mysterycore, and the execution here is brilliant. The fact that this unpredictable musical genre keeps you on your toes feels especially pertinent here, since King Dedede himself always throws out a variety of techniques to put the hurt on you, as is the case with most Kirby bosses. Never did I think I'd hear a track with _both_ dubstep and jazz, and yet here we are! The only way I think you could get more eclectic is if you had a Broadway showtune style melded with Breakcore or something (and it begs the question - what are even considered the most contrasting genres?... I'd be interested to know). 😅 And what's even more impressive than the sheer variety is the way it's all integrated together. The use of various transitional techniques helps the different styles to segue seamlessly into one another. For instance, the instant drop to a rising low-pass filter at 0:24 makes an immediate statement and really sets the stage for that sick D&B section. And I just love that strongly articulated segment at 1:27, where the instrumental density and warmth are stripped away, setting the stage for that WILD Drumstep-to-Hardstyle-back-to-Drumstep segment... it's so dang fluid! I don't know how you guys managed to pull off that final transition, but letting the note resound with that rising cymbal swell to usher in the smooth jazz segment was a great choice! All around, just a very high-effort, high-variance arrangement and sound style - I love it! The unique instrumentation you guys used for each segment also works really well. The instruments are different enough to make each section feel distinct, but not jarringly different to the extent that they lack synergy. And the instrumentation also makes sense in the Kirby universe, as all of these synths and instruments, from the bright synth stabs to the mellow sax, make up the core of the Kirby games' music. Jun Ishikawa is an absolute madman, and it's insane that he's able to write such a wide array of music for the series, ranging from cute and charming to downright apocalyptic. In particular, I really like the growl & squelch sequences used in the -definitely not Megalovania- part! Also, in terms of arrangement, what a bold move that was, having the two themes play in parallel at 1:49 - I really can't convey enough how much I love when remixers utilize that particular technique. It's tough to pull off, and often requires tweaking, reharmonizing, and modulating one or both melodies, but the payoff is potentially huge, like is the case here! Regarding the percussive elements, they're all-around stellar - definitely one of the top strengths of this remix! I've become a firm believer that the drums and percussion really drive a remix, and that solid percussive elements are a real difference-maker in any song. Not only are the rhythms cool, but they're dynamic and varied, too. And what great sound samples used here, as well! The hi hat are tight, each snare fits its respective section to a T, and those kicks thump hard! I love the sheer power of the drums in the Drumstep/Dubstep/Hardcore section, too, and it makes for an exciting climax! I can always appreciate creative video elements, and the switch to the flickering light effect in tandem with the scanlines and quaver really sells the intensity of that section! Also, the brief Sans cameo with the TV static is a great nod to that other game. 😜 You guys really did a fantastic job here, and I apologize that it's taken me this long to comment on such a gem of a remix. Also, to answer the question posed in the description: the first time I ever fought King Dedede was in Kirby Super Star for SNES, one of my all-time favorites in the series! 🌟
Man, I think one of my favorite parts of this whole process is reading your comments! It makes me so happy to see you break things down and enjoy these tunes :) I think this one turned out really well! I basically had these disjointed ideas of the orchestral intro, the main dnb section, and the jazzy sax-led part, and Hanabi kind of took it all, stitched it together, improved the instrumentation, and added that KILLER dubstep-inspired section, which to me completely made the remix! It’s a weird arrangement, but I think it turned out really fun! Thanks for listening!!
Nice !!
BANGER ALERT
I found this in a low-fi mix and because they credited you I was able to find you after some searching. I wanted to thank you so much for this song. I'm about to turn 33 and have been playing since I was a kid. I have always been really obsessed with Pokémon and played alot of Snap and watched the anime religiously as a kid. This has made me cry twice now like a big baby. This hits my nostalgia so hard. It's beautiful man. Truly a great job. :)
PS I have only listened to it 4 times, 2 times each time. I can't take any more than that right now! I'm going to listen to what else you got!
Wow, thanks for this! I had the same experience, I played this game a TON growing up! I hope you stick around and enjoy of the other Pokémon lo-fi on the channel! :) also, can you drop a link to that Lofi compilation you found this remix in? I’d like to give that channel some love for including me! 🙌🏼
@@NostalJackMusic OMG same! I played this game so much growing up. It meant so much to me then, as I was going through a lot of life things. This game as well as the anime and other games were all the ultimate distractions for a child like me. Not playing Snap for decades and then getting hit with this nostalgia always does something magical to my memories and emotions. Thanks again. th-cam.com/video/KLaO1Tli9Bc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=i43mhlSmLfKFkJwz is the link! Took awhile to find it but I did! This feels very odd but satisfying to listen too, very interesting.
Ok, I will take odd but satisfying! Haha, this is an old remix and I would not consider it my best work, but I’m glad it has at least SOME value to someone :)
Bro it was such an honor to work with you! I remember when I first joined megamix you really helped me a lot, mentoring me in music production and here we are finally collaborating together! I appreciate you a ton for this! Your DnB section when you first sent it to me was insanely awesome and I loved the intro you did with the laugh and orchestration! Not to mention the jazzy ending blew me away! I'm a sucker for good jazz! I love how the graphics glitch into Sans a bit haha! And so glad you liked the reference 😁 Really grateful we got to work together on this!
I remember when you first joined the server too! It’s awesome that you’ve gotten to be a staple of the community since then and have grown as a musician! This was awesome to work with you on, we will absolutely have to collab again in the future!!
1:40 i felt sins crawling on my back
We can never escape Sans 💀
This is such a brilliant idea for a remix, and the execution is superb! Since it debuted, this remix has been a daily listen for me, and it's perfect for getting in the mood for Halloween. The timing of this release really couldn't be better, although this rendition is great for an anytime-of-year listen! The way you incorporate dialogue into your remixes - and with some top-tier processing, to boot - feels like a signature element by this point. It's made a lasting impact on me, like how you used character lines in your Leorio's Theme and Great Pumpkin Waltz renditions... it feels like it's integral to the identity of the remix, and it feels so naturally integrated. The timing and mixing of these voice clips is always so tight, as is the case here, with that perfectly placed "wicked!..." at 1:23 following the exchange that sounds like it's being played through a vintage radio. So cool! In terms of instrumentation, you really nailed it here. The breathy flute synth lead is a unique choice, and it pairs really well with the acoustic guitar for a sound that's cozy, yet mysterious. There are some atmospheric sounds throughout that add a nice texture, as well, and the transitions are excellent, with suspenseful risers and satisfying downsweeps. As always, the percussive elements really shine, with some solid syncopated rhythms and great drum choices. The snare you've selected here has a neat old-school quality here, lending further to the nostaljack aspect of this piece. Spooky szn is _definitely_ my thing, and again, I'll be happily playing this piece to set the mood for the big day, alongside other seasonal tracks for yours. Happy October, my friend! 🎃
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! The dialogue over remixes is definitely one of my favorite things to do. It might be a little cliche sometimes, but man it just works for me, I always love using that in my music and hearing it in others’! Thanks for the breakdown as always, and happy October, Halloween, and autumn season to you as well!!
NostalJack, thank you so much for sharing this remix, and for the wonderful shout-out! It seriously made me tear up to see such a kind and enthusiastic endorsement by someone with such immense musical talent and passion. I'm very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with you, and I _super_ appreciate your interest in collaborating on this! Your versatility as a musician is astounding, and the way you excel in so many aspects of music - production, instrumental performance, vocal performance, arranging, composition - will never not be impressive to me. As a fellow Fire Emblem fan, it meant the world to be able to collab on a vocal remix of one of the best songs in the series, and now hearing our rendition is making me want to start a playthrough of Three Houses again for the umpteenth time. While I'm a Dimitri man myself, I can't discount Claude as one of the most memorable and likable characters in the franchise, and his appearances in other titles just further cement this. Your title is brilliant, and I love that it hints at the subtlety in Claude's character, something I didn't really appreciate until later story elements were revealed. So I definitely won't argue with you there! I also want to thank you for making time to record the vocal parts for this, in spite of how much you have going on outside music remixing. Your heartfelt and powerful delivery in so many of the lines here gets me every time! I'm so proud to have been a part of this project, and I hope that we can have the opportunity to work together on a future production... when you have the time, of course! Thanks again, for everything, my friend! 💛💙❤
This was incredibly fun to do, I’m glad I finally got to share it on my channel! I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to do something like this when vocals are not always the norm in our remixing space :) Also, I totally respect the Dmitri alignment, that story definitely is very solid! But thanks for validating my Claude fandom 😂

@@NostalJackMusic always said my favorite game is the second one, give the music a listen like the tracks I mentioned
thanks for this melody brother, you unlocked a very nice memory thanks for that!.
My pleasure :) 🙏🏼
NostalJack, so glad to see you back in action, man! You haven't missed a beat, as evidenced by how cozy and charming this sounds. And great choice, too, basing this remix on the G/S/C version of Vermilion! One of the many things I love about Gen 2 is that the composers went and created new arrangements for each of the Kanto themes, when they could have just stuck the original tracks in there. So much care was put into this OST! Similarly, you've put a great deal of creative energy into the instrumentation here, and there are some truly neat surprises, like the erhu that Hanabi mentioned and the choral synth in the climax segment. The electric piano lead is signature NostalJack, and that bass guitar has great upper tones, allowing it to be heard even on lesser sound systems - I like that! It's cool how you used swing for some of the rhythms to give them extra character, and I really like the improvised harmonies, like that moving part at 0:25, and those descending runs at 0:13 and 0:47. And superb work with the percussive elements, too! That snare is crispy and well-balanced, and the kick rhythms are very satisfying. It's great how you also give the tonal instruments room to breathe by dropping out the percussive elements at certain points, and it adds to the dynamic nature of your arrangement. Just really solid song progression overall. I think this piece would be a great addition to Johto-fi Vol. 2, as this is about as Johto-sounding as a Kanto theme can get! Otherwise, I think it would be cool to see the Credits theme make it onto that album, as it's one of the best in the franchise, I feel. Once again, superb work, my friend! 🌟
Thanks man! It feels great to see one of your comments again after so long! Glad you enjoyed this one, it’s very simple so I’m glad people didn’t find it too boring :)
BRO IS BACK!!!!! <3 Your bass is always smooooth! This is a really chill but upbeat track! I like the erhu! interesting choice of instrument!
