In regards to the complaints about grubby fingerprints on the screens, I can verify as an avionics mechanic that professional pilots will smudge up the screens every flight and then write it up for cleaning every time. And the planes I worked on didn't even have touch screens. Distracting though it is, smudges definitely do show up on screens no matter how hard you try or how loudly you yell about it.
So funny you mention the fingerprints when I JUST finished leaving a comment on your Eclipse review in which I stated my dislike for the dirty windscreen on that ship. I agree completely that the dirt effects added to ships for immersion do not need to be as dramatic as they are.
Great review! Short, sweet, and succinct. Since you mentioned that you changed 2 laser repeaters to ballistic ones you might as well add a new part to your reviews where you show your changes to weapons and components.. like changing the quantum drive to another one can eliminate that stop for example..
iirc, in 3.14, Ballistic repeaters/gatlings had their ammo count severely reduced. (IE: 5000 > 400/200) but their DPS went higher. A lot of people are starting to recommend Laser Repeaters/Cannons instead for PvE combat.
Great review of the Gladius, Farrister. I love the ship. In fact when I first started as a backer to SC, it was my first ship after the starter package. Initially I CCU'D my Aurora for it. I don't have my original ship anymore, but I do still own a Gladius variant. I picked up the Gladius Valiant when it came out with LTI. It has a different paint and the nose gatling gun. It has 2 neutron cannons on the nose and 2 Badger repeaters on the wings, so it's a little different. The biggest difference is the cannons are energy weapons so I don't have to restock ammo all the time so long as the power plant works. Those cannons still pack a punch. I used it a bit in the recent Zeno Threat event, and I did pretty well. I like the visibility and maneuverability of the ship in most situations. I'm not a super fighter pilot, but I can still hold my own in it. Take care, fly safe and i'll see you in the verse.
if only ships in Star Citizen could be further modded. Knock out the Bunkbed bulkhead, put the bunks along the forward bulkhead, add a shower/bath combo, bubble the space & cockpit with a small walkway terrace, replace the overhead with articulating hangar bay doors, put 2 more vtol engines w/ retrothrusters outboard the forward conards, fill those gunship doors with remote size 3 laser turrets for the "co-pilot", make the pilot/co-pilot seats fixed, tuck ladders into the bulkhead, and fill the void with whatever performance addon desired, make everything below the central deck component compartments (fuel, shields, cooling, drive core, oversized quantume drive), and of course upgrade the armor plating even more. Fantasy? Yes. However a modded cutlass black would be a hilarious, sleeping monster. Doubt insurance would cover the mods.
A couple points of criticism: You missed showing off the new gun racks the Gladius has on the starboard front of the ship, these are a cool new addition that currently only the Gladius has but which are likely also coming to other fighters in the future since you will not be able to have none sidearm weapons equipped while piloting in the future. Secondly it would be nice to hear you refer to the 'left' and 'right' of ships relative to the front as port and starboard, for fighters it's not really an issue but with larger vessels it can really help when describing locations since it is a fixed direction relative to the interior. A great overview overall, though! The Gladius is almost always the most polished ship in the game due to it's 'hero ship' status for Squadron 42. It would be really interesting, and really test your acumen as a reviewer to see you review the Arrow next, as it is the closest direct competitor to the Gladius, but regardless of what you do next, thanks for the hard work and I hope for more.
Thank you! I didn't even know about the weapons rack! That's a great spot! I do use port and starboard in some of my other reviews, it just seemed a bit overkill for a single seater fighter xD

Haha fair enough!

Haha yeah!
Great Review!! Thanks for posting.
Thank you :)
Love the reviews, great work! This ship reminds me of the Hammerheads from Earth: Above and Beyond
Thank you - this is one of my older ones!
I recently got the red one. I'm having great fun with it. Good video as always.
Snazzy!
The Gladius' cockpit reminds me of the NC fighter from Planetside 2, one of the games that actually got me into flying.
The cockpit looks so good!

Oh that's a neat idea! Although people gonna be bored of just seeing me put ballistic repeaters on EVERYTHING? xD

Absolutely - this review was from 3.10!
Glorious Gladius, the thrusting sword used by the Romans, and a short thrusting fighter used by the UEE. Very nice light fighter.

I love the Aegis combat ships!
I love this review, and the ship nice work I love it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Still one of my favorit ships 👌
Me too, so nimble!
Never tell me the odds!
In this, I will have to trust you as I'm no dogfighter. Keep up the good work.
Arrow pilot here. Come get some haters!
haha, this was a while ago now!
@@Farrister arrow vs gladius rivalry is forever
I’m torn between getting my first ship. I’ve narrowed it down to the gladius and buccaneer
Ahhh I like them both! The Buccaneer is a little more rough and ready, it's high performance but not as precise as the Gladius (in my opinion!)
I hope you went Gladius

Are we talking about the Gladius here? :D

can you review the Origin 325a?
I will add to my list :)
I only have one word: ROBOTECH!
Robotech?
it also has a gun rack.
Yeah I completely missed that one!
Never tell me the odds
xD
Skipped immediately to Combat >:)
As is your right!
:)
Professional pilots leave dirty fingerprints from their nasty gloves all over the MFDs, while they're pissing their seat.
Lol possibly true
