There's a reason the Calumets sit on the shelf: the juice ain't worth the squeeze. Don't misunderstand me, the stuff is good bourbon, and if it was $80 or $90, I would make sure I have a bottle on the shelf. But I bought one Calumet 16 for $150, drank the whole bottle over several months, and have no intention of replacing it at that price. There are whiskeys that are just as good or better in the $60 range, so why pay more than double that? The age statement is great, but it doesn't make the whiskey in the bottle any better than some of the 8 to 12 year old bourbon that's out there for a lot less.

I found myself in Arkansas, driving through Mississippi on my way to Memphis. I scheduled all day Sunday to just bourbon hunt the entire trip. Jokes on me, Bible belt, no liquor stores open on Sundays. I found one hole in the wall next to the memphis airport on Monday, I could see through the bullet proof glass and bars they had a pecan finished JD. Trying to get the lady behind the glass to understand what bottle I wanted with a muffled yankee accent turned into a game of pictionary but I got it!

Four Roses Small Batch Select, which is around $55 in Vegas, is a fantastic pour and highly underrated. Maker’s Mark 46 Cask Strength is also a shelf staple in my house and can be found easily and are great pours I’ll always have on my shelf.

Trail’s End 10 is my hidden gem. It’s 10 year old Kentucky Bourbon(undisclosed distillery), finished in toasted Oregon oak. It’s hard to find, but it beats bottles 2-3 times its price.

I agree! Sometimes things show up. I’m in California and about five months ago I picked up a ECBP B520 and a ECBP C920 for 85.00 bucks each:) I also found two Larceny BP B521 for 65.00 each. A couple of months ago I picked up a Booker’s Country Ham (2019-3) for 95.00 bucks:) I got a Knob Creek 2009 cask strength rye for 55.00 a couple of weeks ago! Keep searching because there are some gems around! Cheers!

Calumet 15 is now down to $99 at our stores. But I recommend passing on the Calumet 14. Besides the outstanding start to it, it then goes totally dirt. Not dirty, but literally the earth funk of dirt in the bottle.

Nope. Not just you. At $100 pretty much my biggest disappointment in my whiskey journey thus far. I bought this based on one of Matt’s previous videos, and thought my pallet would match up as I’m not a MM fan either, but still nope. I put this in a blind with Weller SR and the Weller won. It’s not horrible or offensive in any way, just not anywhere near what you should expect from a $100 bottle.
