Soygon saying cartoons in the 80s were more "sincere" than cartoons today might actually be the dumbest thing he has ever said. The entirety of children's media in the 80s existed solely to sell toys. He-man, GI Joe, Thunder Cats, My Little Pony, Care Bears, etc. ALL these shows had massive toy and merchandise lines.

    • @ExtremeMadnessX
      @ExtremeMadnessX ปีที่แล้ว +161

But also, those cartoons were "woke" by their standards. Especially He-Man and original She-Ra. There was always a lesson at the end of every episode, like racism and sexism are bad, eat your vegetables, etc...

I love that Shad and Sargon unironically worship He-Man when that show was literally called the “gayest show on television” by the people who made it. Literally. A bunch of queer cartoon producers and artists just made a world of buff men and took it as far as they thought they could, and Shad just guzzled it all down without stopping for a moment to reflect as an adult.

And also, I love 80s cartoons, I think they are goofy and silly and I mean it in very caring and loving way. But alas, they weren't peak of fiction most of the time and we shouldn't pretend they were. (It doesn't mean that 80s cartoons don't deserve love, they definitely do)

MLP: Friendhsip is Magic is probably one of the most sincere, genuine shows made for younger audiences in a long time. It has the 90's vibes of "Written for parents and kids." Plus the community is wonderful! So many cute oc horses and art. I've met some amazingly genuine people at conventions. So many people without a single bad bone in their body.

I will tell anyone to watch the Owl House episode "Reaching Out", and tell me that the feeling there is insincere.
And I too commend MLP for carrying visual quality alongside its lessons, but also for leveling up with its plots and themes as it went along, growing with its original audience to an extent.
I mean, there is an episode where one character has a brother who lives with their parents and wanders between jobs because he is afraid of failure. A LOT of folks felt that episode hit close to home.

The "and now you know" ending messages in 80s cartoons were only there because they had to include something educational or else it was legally declared a half hour commerical. That's why it was also just the most basic, "don't take pills from the cabinet" and "don't get into a strangers car". As for Soygon, he is extremely ignorant of the fact that cartoons of the 80s were overengineered commercials meant to sell toys, basically "Buy He-Man action figures, or the Commies win", all of that sincerity is him, defending his corporately mandated childhood, and that's the cusp of Chud and Soy, they are treating capitalism as if it were a holy religion, pesky things such as fun and history, are mere aesthetics meant to sell holy capitalism to your children, those two _seriously_ need professional help.

My Little Pony G4's long duration itself is an example of how the messages promoted to children have become more nuanced and maybe demand a little more of the listener over time. It's no postmodern masterpiece, but it's praised for good reasons.
Simpler stuff like "being strong doesn't mean being a bully" and "share with other kids" eventually led to morals like "sometimes people grow apart to do different things, but that doesn't mean your friendship should die" or "there is a thin line between honest critique and being an asshole", or, one of my favorites, "don't let the fear of failure prevent you from taking a chance at self-improvement".
Not every episode has done well to DISPLAY the messages given, but the writing grew with its audience because the writers understood that the kids who watched (and especially the older periphery demographic) would ultimately get it.

Cartoons aren’t more cynical and “woke” now because millennials are “introducing irony.” These guys literally grew up in an era that gave us Captain Planet, Ren & Stimpy, Beavis & Butthead, Two Stupid Dogs, Cow & Chicken, “Ed, Edd, & Eddy,” Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Rocko’s Modern Life, The Simpson’s, Family Guy, South Park, Daria, Ahhh! Real Monsters, Cool World, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Beetlejuice. Animation of their era definitely had cynicism and “woke” ideas like environmentalism. The pure innocence and sincerity they are romanticizing wasn’t in the media of the era, it was in them because they were children too naive to pay such cynicism much thought.

Now I see Finn messed up in such a way that while Flame Princess can still be his friend, a romantic relationship won't work out. One of the most satisfying moments is when Finn simply just apologizes to Flame Princess genuinely, without a hint of wanting to get back with her.
Its genuinely a good lesson for anyone at any age, sometimes relationships dont work out, and its important to recognise and grow from the mistakes you made. And as you grow and learn, you may end up finding love in the place you least expect. Instead of a Princess, you may end up with a Wizard.

I thought it was super obvious that Walt was extremely insecure. He only sells meth because he was too proud to accept help. Once he got into it he started liking it and it affirms his masculinity as provider and through extreme violence. That show is amazing. I remember my brother being obsessed with it when it came out and watching every week. I would watch episodes here and there and loved the finale. So sick.
I watched the show myself earlier this year and I finally understood why he loved it so much. It’s incredible. Even El Camino and Better Call Saul are just masterpieces. Walt and Saul have much more interesting stories than Jessie so the focus on them is great for series but I’m glad Jessie got just a movie. If there was a whole series of Jessie bumbling around getting victimized and being a tragic character, that wouldn’t be as fun to watch.

But I always got the feeling that his media takes weren't gelling with me. It wasn't surprising seeing Xan covering the drama with Skallagrim that Shad was really off the deep end, but Shad lashing out at Scholagladiatoria for severingvties and overtly siccing his fans on him got me to finally watch one of his Knights Watch videos on hating LGBTQ+ representation, and the hatred therein, plus the casual admitting to wanting to gear kids into heterosexual relationships (ie, the thing he was accusing of others grooming for other orientations), I've unsubbed and disregarded him since.
These days seems he's doing more "is boobplate practical" content anyway.

G1 Transformers has a lot of progressive messaging for its time besides being a toy commercial. Even just baseline stuff like the Autobots would often win through a combination of team work, listening to outside opinions, and general concern for others. Where as the decepticons would often snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by betraying each other , being greedy and/or shortsighted. I know this seems simple, but these seem to be some really basic concepts that these people did not take away from their programming.
Lets not forget that representative from Florida who compared Trans people to the X-men. But in a negative way. Showing that not only did he at least absorb the metaphor of the x-men, but actively is acting like the government in X-men did to the mutants.

I found out santa wasnt real on the playground at school when I was like eight and I told my parents. they responded by saying something like "if santa's not real then youre not getting christmas presents from him this year" so I kept up the charade to this day AND I work in a school in the 6th grade and i have to be very careful about what I say. I work in special ed too so sometimes some of the kids tell me they know santa's not real in front of the whole class and I have to have "The Talk" with them so that they understand the social niceties around santa.
Also I think it's so weird that we have all these movies saying that santa operates on belief and the world is ending because not enough kids these days believe in santa. It's a very strange message to send to kids who still believe in santa especially when they come out with the hip new "get your message to santa" device sold in every store with a cash register. Oh wow look at this, thinking about santa has once again led me to the conclusion that capitalism is a monster that must be eradicated from this earth.

For a long time i could watch new he-man revelation because of bad reviews. But month ago i gave it a chance and despite PAINFUL and upsetting first 3 episodes this was one of the best 10/10 animation experience i had in years.
Conservatives and reactionaries heavily misrepresent this show to the point there's tons of HM:R moments on TH-cam absolutely cut out of context they get mad about.
Things are so bad i legit seeing those clips out of context though that one of the main characters died (spoiler they were not it was a cliffhanger) but the whole internet still pretends as if it actually happened. Reactionaries misunderstood main message, reactionaries tore apart some story plot twist that were set either in original cartoon or in 00s cartoon. Also HM:R is definitely made by a people who love he-man
So yeah watch Revelation especially if you loved 00s cartoon lore. It may start upsetting but totally worth it.

From episode one, it was clear they had a road map to the final episode. Except for one, none of the episodes are fillers. The characters all go thru an evolution. Some of it subtle, some of it,n of so much, but rarely simple.

Now, At that time executives didn't like that character so David Lynch put that character into more episodes.
Executives did kill the show due to their idiocy and pushing.
But Right Wingers just want to see themselves as heroes so much that they ignore things to do so... Which is why Cops wearing the Deth's Head Skull (Punisher Symbol) is funny...
