I have two dogs, one ~20lbs and one ~9 pounds, so one the smaller side. I use a backseat cover, similar to the one you show. Does a good job of protecting the seat.
In addition to the seat cover, I have seat belt attachments that tether the dogs by attaching to their harnesses. It gives them enough leash to move around (look out the window, interact with each other, etc…), but not enough to get in the way when I’m driving (the small one would insist on being on my lap otherwise!). Plus I feel better knowing they’re not going to fly around if there’s an accident.
Lastly, I have collapsible water and food dishes for them as well. And poop bags for, well, you know…

I have an 80 lb German Shepherd mix and she stays in the backseat. I have a Tasmanian seat cover for the Model 3 and it's great. The first random brand one I got from Amazon did not last very long before the zippers broke (both covers have side panels to zip up once the dog is in the car to protect the doors but she still scratched the door next to the window the first time I left her alone in the car). The cover also has loops over the front headrests so there is a wall of seat cover to keep my dog from coming into the front seat and it has a mesh panel so the a/c can blow through to her. The front panel can zip in half if someone wants to sit in the backseat. I also bought black knit hats to cover the headrests so the straps about the headrests go over the hats and don't scratch the headrest. I use a harness on the dog and a made a "seatbelt" for her with an old rope leash and some carabiners to hook into the baby-sat latch behind the backseat to keep her safe on long trips.

I have the only dog in the world that is afraid of car rides and just sits there and breathes for an entire car ride never moving.

Thanks for the video! But I can't, in good conscious, let my dog roam free in the car. The first thing that needs to be protected in the car is the dog. I use something like the Kurgo Impact Seatbelt Harness. Keeps the dog in his place, sitting or lying down, and he's safe. The back seat cover you use wouldn't work with the seatbelt harness I use as there's no hold for the belt to buckle in.

In addition to the car seat covers to protect the leather, I have to put dog booties on my dogs to prevent them from scratching at the window sills - even when they are buckled in harnesses. They are reasonablywell behaved but they get excited and try to ge ta better look out the windows. Total pain sometimes but much better than how my last cars window sills looked!

Thoughts on the Tesla rear dog seat protector with door protection? I just ordered for my M3, and did so because of the door covers. Also, my pooch will be relegated to back seat. Golden Retriever doesn't need to come up front with me.

How have you enjoyed the rear dog seat protector from tesla? I have been debating on buying it.

We have an Australian Border Collie as well. She is a lovely dog and full of energy. But her first time in our Tesla was a disaster, scratching up everything in sight. We now use our pickup for her favorite pup cup at Starbucks. Clothe seats works best with her. We just place a beach towel covering just the lower part of the seat, works like magic. And save the Tesla for everyday travels.

I hear you there! It was stressful at first but once I got everything protected I’m less stressed about it. Ideally I would transport her in a truck but sadly we don’t have that option. 🙁

Thank you for such an informative video! We are thinking of getting a Tesla but we also have a dog and 2 year old daughter. Would you get a model y instead knowing what you know today with regards to dog ? Also; cargo space enough in model 3 with dog and child on road trips ?

Please to Protect your dog in a car : NEVER let the dog sit in the front seat while driving. Indeed the airbag might seriously injure or even kill your dog.
NEVER open the window while driving and let your dog breath fresh air, but if you love more your vet than your dog. When you ride a motorcycle, you always cover your eyes. So you have to do for your dog. Getting the wind on he head of a dog might sound refreshing but it causes conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eye) and otitis (inflammation of the ear).
And don't forget to always harness your dog. In case of a collision he/she will fly in the car.
    Thank you!

Why don't you just bubble wrap your dog and put him all the way in the back?

Border collies love to chase and herd those big plastic balls that are about a foot or so in diameter. Good for energy release.

clean car or happy dog...like brushing your teeth while eating Oreo's, I have a Catahoula, we cleared the ruff wear catalog, but, meh, it's just an interior. as long as she's safe and happy, I'm good

I don't have a dog, but I watched anyway. Your dog is adorable. It is clear that you love her and spoil her (in the best way possible). You probably did a better job than I did for childproofing.

Our Frenchie rides in the back seat. The back seat cover set we got has covers for the doors which have plastic tabs that slip between the windows and the inside window sill.

@@indie Kurgo set purchased at PetSmart. The door covers, which also protect the window sills, and the seat cover were all in one set.

Only dog lovers will understand your message ... we are dog lovers!!! Our dog is small so we have a basket on console between the front seats held on with straps. The front seats are our problem as she jumps in and out but like you, she is the center of our lives and we wouldn't change that for any reason! Thanks.

This gives me anxiety watching your dog roam around the car. Seriously, a hammock seat cover and a harness would prevent all the front getting scratched and ruined. I love my dog just like everyone else but like a child it needs to be secured 🥴

Dogs should be in crates when in a car. Then no worries. It is unsafe to let a dog be free in a car.
