I love the idea of rewording „what brings you joy?“ to „what brings you peace?“ We often cast joy and fun away as being frivolous when it’s actually often deeper than that :)
I feel so seen. I have so many interests and I surpressed them for years to fit in. It took a divorce and the freedom to rediscover myself to reinvest in myself and be myself. I adore reading, cross-stitching, writing, and more, but I've definitely given myself more license to do enjoy them now and just be myself.
I love this! I started my TikTok journey while doing a PhD, and it gave me so much fun as another outlet. You can do it all, but you may not be moving to complete all the finish lines simultaneously at the same intensity. Not everything is supposed to be finished super fast. The journey is just as fun as the destination.
👋🏽 fellow multi-passionate checking in! We need more of this approach in general, but especially in academic AND entrepreneur spaces. Pursuing multiple interests makes us better scholars and leaders because it helps nurture our ability to think in different ways.
Thank you for this! As someone on a slower time frame due to indecision I often feel guilty for taking up extra hobbies when work needs to be my primary focus. It's very validating to hear you talk about multipotentialism, I feel like there isn't much space for being a generalist nowadays and it's really harmful.
My passions are knitting blankets for my friends and family. I'm also trying to learn how to play the guitar. Thank you for this video. I really needed it. ❤
I REALLY needed this post! I LOVE playing the violin & viola, reading and my day job teaching English to teenagers. But, I also really LOVE researching the impact of the Vietnam war on people... I didn't realise how much it meant to me until I decided to give it up. (Primarily due to cancer but also because I was torn wanting to do these other things as well). Last month was the end of my suspension of studies and when it came down to it, I couldn't give it up. Surprise-surprise, once I commited to resumption of studies my MH sky rocketed! The PhD is going to be a slow burn and I have been stressing about how I'm going to make it all work BUT, your mantra of 'defiance' is what I'm going to take with me into the journey. Thank you! ❤
I'm so grateful for this one, Kaelyn! As an MA History student, small business owner in children's entertainment, with a full time job in marketing and side jobs in the restaurant business, and being a hopeful IG/TH-cam person, I've always felt like less than in all these different areas because I'm not focusing on just one area. So THANK YOU thank you thank you for this video. Wishing you all the best in 2025
This was so fantastic. The message of following your joy often gets lost in the pursuit of perfection. "You get to decide what a good job is" is the thing I needed to hear. Comparing my creative pursuits to the results of others was a mistake that kept me from doing the things I love. This video helped me to see past that mindset. Thank you so much for making this video. ♥♥
This is one of the best "goal setting" videos I've ever seen. Thank you for affirming so much of who I am! I love the idea of "side quests" and will definitely be implementing this advice this year.
Really needed to hear the first part of the video, just to reaffirm what I was thinking myself. Sometimes we need someone on the outside to tell us that it is indeed all okay. And you said it so well. Thank you
I relate so much to this and I'm so grateful for your advice on this. Currently running a community group for aspiring therapists in my country. Working on a mental health podcast and job searching as a baby therapist who just finished grad school and working on consulting in my country. Outside of that I love to read, love centering myself in my relationship with God so church and spiritual disciplines have been so helpful, and additionally, I love trying recepies and dancing and coloring and watching anime and reading webtoons
I have a book rec: Craft Psychology - How Crafting Promotes Health by Dr. Anne Kirketerp As far as I know it’s only available through DMC, a French company that sells embroidery thread and other fiber art supplies and kits, but it’s so worth it for the undeniable evidence that slowing down and doing the crafts that you love is good for you and necessary to be able to do the things that we want to do in other aspects of our lives
Not me at the Accepted Society study session this morning abandoning my thesis and going off on side quests 👀 My main side quest for 2025 is..... 🥁 learning Italian. Again (who knows how many times I've tried it now, lost count). Challenge = to not to get TOO distracted by the side quests 😶🌫
This video really resonated with me! I have certainly had my share of people with an abundance of audacity and no problem offering unsolicited feedback about my choices. I have always had multiple passions, and pursuing them is what gives my life its fullness and vibrance! I live a life that others don't often understand, and honestly I am 100% comfortable with people not "getting it". I don't subscribe to the capitalistic framework that all activity must equal profit and profits must always increase, and I have never subscribed to the idea that my life needs to be palatable for a Western hetero-patriarchal society. I am a full time phd student and a full time career woman, and whenever someone asks me why I want to do both, I always think of a specific quote from the movie "Lucky Number Slevin". (If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it! It's a good time!) There is a scene where Slevin (the MC) asks a man called The Rabbi (a man who is both a Rabbi AND a crime boss) how he justifies living these two conflicting lifestyles, and The Rabbi simply replies: **"I don't. I'm a bad man who doesn't waste time wondering what could've been, when I am what could've been and what could not have been. I live on both sides of the fence. My grass is always green."** Which, honestly....iconic. 🤣 I have too many interests to just commit to one, so I do them all! Am I amazing at all of them? Nope. But I'm enjoying my life, so that is enough for me! I have green grass on all sides of my metaphorical fences. Loved the video, Kaelyn! Keep living your life however you want. That's what makes our time on this earth so special. Happy 2025!! 🎉

Thank you! And so true it's about making time! We need time out to enjoy our passions!! ❤ for me it's restarting my coaching business for nurses!!
