Wild Water with the Nikon Zfc

- I make my way to a well-known location to see some Wild Water. Images on social media from there raised my hopes, but the conditions had changed slightly in the days between. That did not stop me from getting a cracking image, though. I discuss the shutter speeds for different effects on the water and steer away from supper slow smoothed out water.
I want to promote this channel for those suffering from ME/CFS and Long Covid. My videos are perfect for these groups as they are easy to watch, unhurried, uncomplicated and relaxing. For those that don't know, these ailments cause brain fog, and concentration is difficult. Fast-moving images on the screen are hard to watch. Quick speech is hard to follow, especially when pauses are edited out. As an ME sufferer, I don't talk fast, move fast, and don't edit videos to try and make myself appear fast. PERFECT for ME/CFS LC sufferers. (Apologies for some of the camera movement in this video)
Despite being very ill for over a year and now using a stick 50% of the time, this is still not an "Accessibility for the Disabled" Channel. Accessible means "ease of access". This channel was set up in response to the many channels with Photographers hiking for miles over rough ground or climbing mountains to get an epic shot. I simply want Photographers with less fitness or mild mobility issues OR mild ME/CFS LS to see that they can get out, take interesting pictures, and enjoy their hobby. I visit locations that are accessible to encourage the viewer to also visit and maybe get better images than I did. Where the locations are generic such as woodlands, then all I ask is viewers seek out their local woodlands to photograph within.

Hi! This is the guy you met at the Apple Store today.
Your videos are truly beautiful and the work you are doing is inspirational.
I like the shots from particular angles which you try to take when recording, can tell they are being studied carefully. Then the pictures are just stunning!
Keep up the good job.
Thanks mate. Really appreciate you taking the time to check out what I am doing.
Looks a beautiful location for a visit. Tree colours and fast flowing streams looking great for a relaxing walk 👍
It really is. My first visit would have been when I was around 14 or 15. As the years go but I appreciate it more and more.
Further along the path is Ossian’s cave. A man made structure built to bring in tourists back in the 1800s. They tried to get a Hermit to live there but failed. I wonder why. Lol.
Great shot and great colors. Duke looked much happier this time.
Thanks Steve. Yeah he likes the Hermitage. Would be nice if he could walk further round though.
Wow what a glorious location and falls with some fall color. A lot more thorough in selecting the settings than I do 😂 beautiful shots, love the pano you took and Duke missed out! But yeah, he would’ve been washed away probably. He’s such a good boy carrying your tripod.
Bless that lad for finding and returning your mic!
Ha, trust me I’m still learning to slow down and get the settings right. Lost so many pics by having the wrong speed or f stop selected. It’s why I like landscape. There is time, generally, to take it slow. Just going to my photo club. Will check out your latest video when I get back as I noticed it had just been posted.
Great video Alastair, one of your best. So good that you emphasised the importance of concentrating on getting exactly the right shutter speed. Also well done to Duke for showing great restraint.😊
Thanks so much David.
I really enjoyed this vlog Alastair, it had everything, the story of the image in difficult & noisy conditions and touching seeing Duke with the tripod. It’s good to see that this world has a lot of good people in it, the Piper saved your day.
Excellent storytelling and images.
Thanks Paul. Yeah the old boy still want to help.
Very enjoyable, Alistair. Well done on doing that pano really nice. I think I need a dog to carry my tripod these days, might have to look into that great idea 😂 I don’t know how many times I’ve managed to lose my mic 😂 thankfully Steve Stain has been around to help me find it. 😂
@@paulwbakerphotography thanks Paul. I can’t believe how lucky I was to get that mic back. I fortunately I don’t have my tripod carrier anymore. He passed a couple of weeks ago.
Good jo)b, James Douglas, for finding that mic and tracking you down! I was pissed yesterday when I lost a lens cap. A mic? Fuhgeddaboudit!
Nice images, by the way. I use an ND filter (or sometimes just a polarizer) to slow my shutter speed down for cascade images. About 1/4 to 1/2 second is the sweet spot for me. Occasionally I'll take a faster image and blend it with the slower one to add a little bit of splash detail. How do you like the Zfc compared to the D850, aside from the weight difference?
Thanks John. The shutter speed wasn’t an issue as it was already quite low light. The grad was just in case I needed it as the sky was still bright. You may notice I didn’t attach it to the kit lens. More of an oversight than intentional. Turns out the dynamic range of the Zfc was enough to cope. I did realise I don’t have ND filters of that size just the other day. I might have to pick one up for bright days.
As for the Zfc, I wanted that camera before it was even a thing. Somehow I had never picked up on the Df released in 2013. I often said I wanted a camera with analogue controls. A proper manual camera. I was disappointed that the Z lenses don’t have f stop rings (at least not the kit lenses on offer.). That’s why I picked up the 7Artisans 12mm and the Nonikkor 50mm. Both are manual lenses. I like the feel of an old SLR and the twiddling of knobs and dials. Usually once turned then that’s the setting locked in. I’m not one for auto functions. I rarely even use shutter or aperture priority modes. Of course it does have full auto and if using the kit lens it is handy to quickly turn that on and capture an image quickly. So I do give in on occasion. I like not having to plough through a menu screen all the time or press little buttons and turn disks at the same time. Old fashioned is good for me. I am embracing my years now and accepting I’m an old guy who likes things as the were. :-)
The negative is, that there is no auto/manual focus switch. With the D850 I can use auto focus for a stationary subject then flip to manual and not have to worry about the focus changing. Great for Astro. The Df has that function but is only 16.5mp so not on my radar. Unless I see it taking great pics. :-)
The new Zf looks great but out of my price range just now.
Lens caps are a pain for getting lost. I do remember we used to be able to buy a device that stuck to the cap and allowed it to hang off the lens when not in use. Ah the good old days. Lol.
