Absolutely love Bridlington, spent many summers as a kid on south cliff holiday village from 1973 to 1985...lots of special memories and still seem like yesterday... Great little documentary and thanks for the nostalgic memories 👌

Not too long ago Bird/Brid was on a downward spiral but the council have done a great job,much cleaner and people taking pride in the town.

What a lovely vlog. Brought back so many memories for me. As a child I used to go to SouthShore with my mum and dad, in the brick bungalows. Later in life I brought my mum and aunt with our dog Tyler while hubby was at work. We used to go to the coffee/bar on sea front where you ate your meal. Sadly my aunt, my mum and out dog are no longer with us. Lost my mum and dog this year, but it was nice to have the memories brought back to life. Thanks guys. Xx

Dad took me sea fishing from there aged 10! 1963. Got soaked leaving the harbour and lay on the floor of the open deck for 6 hours frozen and being seasick! He never took me again, thank God!

Hi Claire and Andrew , just subscribed tonight after watching the Holy island video ,now watched this Bridlington one relly enjoyed it although been going to Brid since i was a child and you captured it beautifully loved the end part with all the lights along the fronts ,the rippling paddling pool and the quiet serenity of it , remember the Floral pavillion from the 60s when there was loads of deckchairs along both sides towards the harbour and where the fair is now full of people listening to the band playing ,remember one year a band was playing the music of the late great GLENN MILLER and it made my mum cry ,thank you for a wonderful video xx.

lived in brid about 30+ years ago with my parents. they are now both deceased and laid to rest in Brid. The actress who played Ida Clough in Coronation Street years ago used to have the Nags Head on Market Place just round the corner from The Board. Did you not know that the High Street was used in the recent Dads Army film?

I live in brid and have done since I was a small boy and I actually walk through the old town most mornings, I’m lucky enough to live not far away from the old town.

There are 2 land trains , the one running from the caraven site goes to the Spa then you have to walk to the north beach Leisure centre to pick up the other one that takes you to Sewerby.

im sure there are two on each side so when one ia up at sewerby the other is at the leisure centre , and one near the spa and its counterpart at the park and ride .
went to bridlington with the footie and darts lads from the club.great banter on the coach,great weather,best shirt on .we arrived at bridlington near a market place and when we got off the coach a seagull shit all down my back.my best shirt was ruined.great day out though.

I am sat in the living room with Jayne my wife watching you on our big telly, (even big and close up you two don't look too bad 😆). We live in Hornsea and have visited Brid hundreds of times since we were both kids, we took our kids there all the time. We walk that seafront at least once a fortnight and I have got to say I have learnt more about the town from you two than I have in the last 45 years 😄.
Those night shots were fantastic and the old town looked as good as anywhere in the country, you should be making a tourist film for the council .

We enjoyed Bridlington. The dog friendly beach was fantastic 🏝️
There is a plaque on the north beach wall that tells the story of how Brid was the first place anywhere in the uk to see surfing . The Hawiian king sent his sons to school in England somewhere near Brid and they had a local boat builder make surfboards for them, this was sometime in the 1800s I think. This is my memory of what I read so the detail might be a bit faulty.
They clearly found the waves adequate for the sport.

I tried to find out by looking in the book my Nan wrote but it seems the business failed 2 years after my Nan was born so the family went back to Switzerland and then tried again with a business in gosport then later Birmingham. Where they stayed . There wasn’t much work in the little village in Switzerland so came to the Uk to try and make their fortune!

One reason why the Spa cost 20 million to refurb is when they stripped away the masonry they found a lot of corrosion. The guess is that the original builders used salt water to mix the concrete instead of fresh water. They do great coffee and scones in the cafe

Thank you for a very uplifting video about Brid and showing the bits off the beaten track. I don't whether you knew this, but Colonel T.E. Lawerence (Lawernce of Arabia) badly hiding as Aircraftsman Shaw (the press was always there waiting to catch him for an interview) Was at RAF Marine Craft Unit Bridlington during his last 3 months of service in the RAF..
Colonel T.E. Lawernce was famous for getting the RAF to have fast motor boats to pick up downed airman at sea.
In Bridlington, he was armour plating boats so they could be used as bombing targets.

I lived in Brid for a couple of years and you’ve shown me places I’ve never seen 😮
I holidayed there all the time in the 70s and 80s because my mum was from Brid. I think it lost its way a bit after that as it got a bit rough around the edges, as a lot of seaside towns are, but they definitely seem to have improved things massively.
That pub in the Old Town is awesome. You’re right, if that were in York it’d be rammed all day long. I remember James from @bythecurb going there.

You should let him get one, I still occasionally nip to Bridlington on mine and I'm 71, we go to Fraisthorpe with our dogs in campervan as it is very dog friendly down there.
Brilliant walk about in my home town of Bridlington but not even a mention of Lawrence of Arabia and you did pass the place he used to work at, so 9.9 out of 10 ; )

Thank you for sharing this,only living 9 miles from Bridlington there really is another side to the seaside resort not always depicted by the general media.The Old Town is a real favourite and yes you must try the The Lamp one of our favourite restaurants.You might also recognise the area as filmed in the Dads Army movie.
Sewerby Park is a must for a day out for everyone a super place to visit.All you were missing was some sunshine!

great video guys,Salt on the Harbour is my favourite place to stay and the Stirling Castle pub is where i go to watch sport when i visit Bridlington. i was there at the Oasis gig at the Spa, great Keane song at the end and glad you didn't use the version Lilly Allen butchered 😂

The fish and chips at Salt are some of the best we’ve ever had. Got them from the take away, freshly cooked to order, they were beaut. Highly recommend them on your next visit😋👍

@ 16.22 this was a fish processing place in the early 60 s. I can remember as a lad watching huge skate being hauled up the slip ways on strong ropes by the fishermen .

You’ve got love Brid now, we’ve been this year but will be going back. The old town has a great vibe about it, but we never miss a drink in the Three Brass Monkeys it’s got the lot cheap beer with every aspect of human life.

We've been staying at Cayton Bay and went to Brid on the bus. We stayed 45 mins and got back on the bus. So run down. Never go in school holidays.

Fab vlog made me laugh 🤣.. Absolutely love Brid, im there all the time, we stay in my cousin static in Sewerby, we walk to The Ship Inn (amazing beer garden btw) then into Brid on the cliff tops it's a beautiful walk right upto South cliff 👍....sat in Pavillion bar many times and seen the beautiful dolphins 🐬 what a treat 🤩
People just stick to the town centre near the bus station and think they've seen brid but there's so much more to see, South and North side are great.
Never been to the Old Town tho 🤷🏻♀️ but we are coming to Brid in a couple of weeks definitely going to visit it and definitely going in The Board

Well that's totally changed my perception on Bridlington. The old pub reminds me a little of the Guy Fawks Inn on High Petergate York.

What an awesome day you had at Brid. Come rain or shine we loved Brid, Filey and Scabby! Also a lovely little place at Fraisthorpe, just south of Brid, a lovely sandy beach, you used to gain entrance through a farmed field and it used to be free! Now I believe there is a small entrance fee🤷♂️ between there are toilets and there used to be a line ice cream van there…! Park your vehicle facing the sea and enjoy… I remember there’s/was a sign with a date on it something AD?, I remember asking herindoors, hay Moz, what’s AD stand for babe, do you know? The answer, After Dark! wasn’t at the top of my list!!! But it imprinted a lovely memory of the day… bless her cotton socks. 😉 keep up the great work. Ithankukindly

My home town, the memorial on south pier fish shed has Rob Redhead on it, i was mates at school with little Rob, died in a fishing accident way too young.
