Brian connolly had one of the very best voices during 1970's stardom.
His vocal range was spot on and of course helped blending beautifully with steve priests.
The sweet are/were something else, they were incredibly unique. They were capable of any musical style if
they wished. There are bands and there are bands, there are singers and there are singers.
Brian connolly was ahead of his time. It deeply saddens me that he was given such horrid grief.
Rip brian connolly. (Your not wrong for loving me)

Brian was the very first pop singer I listened to as a youngster, and if my memory serves me correctly he sang "Co-Co". Brian's life was indeed blighted with terrible misfortune. I only hope people will remember him as I do, a great front man backed by talented musicians. Thank-you Paul.

I met him once , in and around 1995, I worked at Tower records, Kensington, and a work colleague , who also worked there, was friends with Brian, and was meeting him for lunch, and told me, he'll introduce me, when he turns up, so when he came in to the store, I was introduced to him. He was quite frail, and had bad shakes, which I noticed, when he shook my hand, but he was friendly to me, and was not put out, to come and talk to me. I'm glad I got the opportunity to meet him in person.

One of the saddest things I've ever seen was the Brian docu shot when he was playing Butlins towards the end of his life. Poor guy. What a 70s legend. I'm from Philadelphia and in 1975 when "Fox on the Run" came out of my transistor radio, I was a Sweet fan for life. Fantastic band. RIP Brian.
ANOTHER great one, Paul. Thanks man.

Yeah, Tommy. That Doco is really sad and seeing him struggling in that, especially before he goes on stage is heartbreaking. Especially when you've seen photos of the Band in their Heyday , getting ready before a show having a Laugh, having a good time and then in this Doco Brian's in so much pain physically and mentally. BUT he still goes out on stage and gives it his best shot.
If anyone watches this Documentary and doesn't feel for him ,even a tiny bit, they have to be pretty Bitter or Sour!! ❤️‍🩹🐈‍⬛💨🎵

51 is no age to die. I wonder why management can't protect people like Brian from self destruction like Elvis wasn't.
In 1975, I was in a pub with my girlfriend and the Sweet was playing on the Duke box. It was Block Buster, Brian's vocals were something else.

The management is only interested in the money. They saw it as a product and that product broke so what to do with it. Money destroys everything. Elvis' manager was a guy from Breda, a city in Holland, where I am also from. He never let Elvis go abroad because then Colonel Parker, as he called himself, would be caught for various crimes. The question that keeps coming back is, is Elvis dead, I'm sure not.😉

I was a very young child growing up in a village, I often so Brian Connolly he use to be seeing a young women who lived 6 doors away from me.
He was a good looking man, i didn't follow music back then but my brothers did, as I got into my teenage years I started to listen to Sweet and T Rex I loved both the bands.
There are lots of today's younger generation who do reactions on you tube about music years gone by, the one group that is very popular at the moment with the reactors is Sweet, they love the group.
All their songs have a mass of viewings and masses of likes.
I'm sure The Sweet members would be flabbergasted with the amount viewings and likes their Music/Songs has accumulated..

I watched the Sweet perform at the Sergeants Mess on RAF Brize Norton base, Oxfordshire and I guess that it would have been about 1969 so just before they became famous. I remember the place was packed out and that their music on the night went down very well with the people there. I was only about 15 years old at the time but managed to get a couple of bottles of Newcastle brown ale from the bar which I drank, and was very sick afterwards!! I remember Brian's long blonde hair vividly when he was performing on stage. Happy memories!

Every documentary about The Sweet or especially Conolly always takes such a sad turn. I see their careers in a positive light though. They might not be as famous as other bands like Deep Purple, but they were just the greatest anyway. Even after the throat incident they successfully toured Japan, Germany and the US with having some of their all-time best live shows.
They had fun while it lasted. And even after their breakup, life went on for them :) Sweet forever.

Pretty much the first band i ever got into at the tender age of 5 or 6 years old, around half a century ago. My late mum used to go out and buy their 7" singles for me (thanks Mum!), which i loved playing on the old crappy record player that was in the house at the time. As time went by i got heavily into so many other bands and have had many 'favourite' bands at various points in my life, which i guess we all do. But the strange thing is, i never heard any of this bands albums until relatively recently, thanks to the internet, and that, even more recently, has made me realise one thing: i now have to say that (The) Sweet is my ALL TIME fave band. Now that is some accolade, considering just how many bands/artists i love! Funny how now, being able to see 60 years old from here, it has all come full circle. I absolutely adore their music and love it even more now than i did then! My 'interest' in drums and drumming actually began all those years ago with this band (thanks Mick Tucker - what a drummer!). Thanks for this, Paul. Despite how relatively sad Brian's story is, i did enjoy seeing this. RIP Brian. And RIP Mick and Steve. Thank you for everything, Guys! You will be forever missed by so many. Much love and respect 🤟😞 🙏

Yes,such a sad ending, got into Sweet or The Sweet at the time,,when "Poppa Joe" came out, around March 1972,I was 13,& followed them till they finally disbanded as a 3 piece in 1982,I was at the 24th February concert at Hammersmith Odeon, went on my own, number 73 bus all the way from Stoke Newington,(Marc Bolan's birthplace,he lived at 25 Stoke Newington common for the 1st 15yrs of his life), ),& again,it was so sad it all went wrong in the end, especially after " Love Is Like Oxygen",was nominated for the Ivor Novello award for best song of 1978,but lost out to "Baker Street" the long version is sublime,& the 1978 album Level Headed was such a departure from their previous work, they had more strings to their bow that they were given credit for, started off as a bubblegum band, then glam, hard rock, even a little proggy, they never got the credit they deserved IMHO,i don't think they could quite shake off their earlier Bubblegum tag,,which was a shame, missing out on that Who concert was a body blow to them,as people would of seen them play,& would of had a different opinion,as they could play, their B-sides,their own work, were superb,& they were the only Glam band that really cracked Ametica,,with 4 top ten hits & 1 top twenty hit, they had others too,I was going to see Brian in the early 80s at the Marquee Club in Central London, but when I got there,it was cancelled, due to his health issues, saw Andy Scott's Sweet in 1992,at The Royal Standard pub in Walthamstow, but it's never the same without the 4 original members,R.I.P Brian,Mick & Steve 🙏❤

I loved Brian and The Sweet, especially their rousing song “Blockbuster “. We had just married when that song came out, and my husband had a job on a farm milking the cows, which meant early starts, but we were both dreadful at waking up to the alarm clock.( a wind up one back then.) so we took our record player upstairs and put the Sweets blockbuster record on its table, set it up to play when the record arm moved, ( keep following) tied a piece of string to the arm, the other end to the alarm winder on the clock, which was wound up full and set to 4.30am…omg in the morning the alarm clock went off, which we slept through, but it kept winding the string until it pulled the record arm which dropped and the record started to play at full blast! If you all recall, it starts off with police sirens and a real racket which would wake the dead! It certainly woke us! And was brilliant! So Thankyou Brian and the group for such a great song and that happy memory. I’m appalled to hear his life story and awful end to it. He didn’t deserve any of it, and I hope he hears us all saying his name now with grateful thanks and sending him love for all the good times. Thanks for this Paul…really glad you visited his grave. Thanks Paul. I saw Sweet, along with Brian in the early 70"s. They played locally to where i lived then and still do now. (The Medway Towns).

Another great frontman taken too soon, Sweet were a superb band, Brian had a great singing voice.
One band I never got to see back in the day, wish I had. I've seen Andy Scott's The Sweet but obviously nowhere near as good as when Brian fronted them.
    Thanx for this Paul.
    R.I.P Brian, Steve and Mick.

Many thanks for a nice and fair portrayal of Brian Connolly. There are far too many negative comments about Brian and Sweet out there, so thank you.

Truly terrible what happened to that man. You don't wish anyone what you are good at and earn your living from and also HAVE to lose a lot of fun with your band members. All in all, a sad ending for this star of The Sweet. R.I.P. and warm greetings from Rotterdam.

Thanks for doing this one. Weirdly was listening to the sweet earlier I'm an 80s boy and the sweet were before my time however I tell anyone who's prepared to listen there is a lot more to the sweet than the chinn and chapman bubblegum hits. Listen to the album desolation boulevard and tell me they aren't as heavy as Sabbath or Deep Purple. Sad they are all gone except Andy Scott. They were all brilliant musicians. As you say Brian's story was tragic and his last TV appearances very sad to see. Shame he doesn't have an actual grave as I'd have visited it

There was a lot more to The Sweet than Blockbuster and Ballroom Blitz. I think their earlier songs like The Juicer were quite diffferent from their chart hits. Brian Connolly's life was filled with sadness and tragedy despite the great music he made. The Sweet and Alice Cooper on the same bill would have been well worth seeing.

A great band , but such a sad loss . Their ,what I believe to be last single , Love is like oxygen , has one of the best B sides ever . ( Cover Girl ) . It harks back to their earlier sound , And should have done a lot better . RIP, Brian . Thanks for the music .

Even after being assaulted Brian still went on to record great heavy rock style vocals on the 'Give Us a Wink' album (1976) and some very pure/clear vocals on the verses of 'Love Is Like Oxygen' (1978) .
