Man, if Eric actually dives deep into the Smith-Morra it seems like he'd be a total beast. He made the Stafford look decent, and it's objectively a dog; the Morra is nearly as tricky, and is also objectively vastly superior. Tons of funny lines, and also a bunch of serious ones if the funny stuff doesn't play out. Seems like a fun combo.
Smith morra is actually quite crazy , an opening where material don't mean shit. Opening theory also have piece sacs either sound or practical atleast.
from game 2 "the pawn lived a good life" seems like another good T-Shirt idea. Also the G5 move so much pride in the time management this game along with the awesome move.
(Starts watching episode 61) - "Welcome back, everyone, to episode 62...." Well, it has been a while! And I have missed them. When I was watching previous episodes regularly, my rating went up by 100+ points; in the recent interim, I've nose-dived by more than 200! Let's hope things turn around now he's back.
14:33 opponent has a 4min advantage here.. you have to change tactics, your strategy of playing with confidence and taking a lot of time because of your 2700 blitz rating won t work against a plus 2000 player. You still have the opening theory advantage until you get to 2400. And your middle and end game is still higher than these guys. But the blitz advantage is gone. Amazing video Eric, thank you!
I really enjoyed the counterplay in the first game. A lot of players my level and below are quick to play defensively when attacked, but sometimes the best defense is a good offense.
Amazing video Eric as always 😊😍 very interesting and informative. Hope I can find some time later learning the Smith Morra. I always worry when I am down even a pawn... that's why I don't play gambits much 🙈 still, should give it time and learn it
Love this content, thanks Eric! Starting to see and dread the end of the climb though. Would you consider doing a ratingclimb featureing a specific opening as black, and another as white? It would be great to get to learn two of your favourite openings as deep as the climb allows. Repetition and variation on the same theme is a relly great learning tool for most of your fans i would imagine.
So glad you are back with these very instructive games. I thought you may have run into a rice cooker minefield as is prevalent at this rating range and just not posted.
For future reference, if you have a morra position with the black d pawn on d7 and a knight on c6 any piece you put on d5 is almost always untouchable. Putting it there may not be the best move because black isn't forced to take, but taking the piece will pretty much always be losing for black.
At 5:19 might you consider Bc5? Develops the dark square bishop and pins the pawn on f2, so threatening Qxg3+ If 2. Be3 Bxe3 Queen can't take because of the knight and if pawn takes then Qxg3+ also winning the pawn. If 2. Bf4 then e5 Just a thought.
I find it strange that you now find the most beautiful moves so easily and resourcefully and have so much trouble in a tournament even though you have so much time in classical chess, is there an explanation for this? best streamer btw ;)
To really tribute Marc Esserman you should have started the so called "clip music" after Nd5 and then proceeded to make animal noises and scream stuff like "banned" or "mock" and random movie quotes
I don’t know how I can both listen to Eric to go to sleep and also mess up my sleep schedule by staying awake to watch these when they drop late 😂
same.
Eric ASMRosen is real
I thought am the only one doing this😂😂😂
Fr his voice is so soothing xD
The Bob Ross of chess.

I second this: get into morra theory. Marc Esserman is the man!
These are my absolute favorite videos on TH-cam, thank you so much!
“White wants to target the pawn. I want to target the king.” 😮
Eric is an exceptional teacher - just thanks
I love the way your opponents also seem to move faster at the end when only you are in 'time trouble'. A lesson there, I think! 😊
from game 2 "the pawn lived a good life" seems like another good T-Shirt idea. Also the G5 move so much pride in the time management this game along with the awesome move.

I love both the Sicilian and the Smith Morra, what a great episode
I've been waiting eagerly for this! 😊
Excellent series of games. Uber instructional. I like his style of instruction & can follow along well.
The run continues! This made my night 😁
Thank you sweet baby Jesus. Been too long since you dropped one of these gems. Long live the speedrun!
Let's go! We all need heart moniters after that first game! Haha
Let’s go another Rosen video 🙌🏾
I haven’t even watched it yet, but I can still truthfully say I love the video! ❤

I really enjoy your videos (have watched all your speedrun videos, and will probably watch them again). WELL DONE!
I find your speedrun series very informative.
Plus every single other Rosen video 😂
Thanks for showing me why my taimanov occasionally gets completely crushed. It was painful to watch that last game 🤣😂
Good to see the return of the speedrun. Thanks, Eric! You da boss.
Eric makes my adblock work overtime. Good job, adblock.
You’re the time pressure king. I don’t like playing against the Smith Morra, so many sharp tactics.

I cant wait for the next speedrun to be a gambit speedrun 💪
Amazing video Eric as always 😊😍 very interesting and informative. Hope I can find some time later learning the Smith Morra. I always worry when I am down even a pawn... that's why I don't play gambits much 🙈 still, should give it time and learn it
The Scotch game was very esthetically pleasing to watch
That last game is quite the advertisement for the Morra
Very instructing staff.
Love this episode
And we're back!!!
Very good Scotch Game - rarely do things come together so nicely!
0:02 'welcome to episode sixty two'. This already threw me off balance ⚖️

At 11:50 why not just Bxf3? Queen takes back and then Black can take on a6 with the rook, winning a pawn and still defending c6.
Exactly my query. Although I thought Bxf3, Qxf3 Qa7#, and take bishop whatever white does with the check.
I was thinking the same thing
35:12 - 35:26 MC Eric on the microphone
I hear it 😂
It's an "unbeaten" streak, my friend 😉
not me watching this at almost 5 am cuz I didn't go to sleep
This episode is a defensive masterclass
The pawn lived a good life needs to be in a T shirt!!!!!
I don’t understand 7:27 . Why can’t he take on f3 with check and then take the other knight, winning a piece?
Yeah that's what I thought as well, but the knight on c6 already took a knight, so it's just a trade
So glad you are back with these very instructive games. I thought you may have run into a rice cooker minefield as is prevalent at this rating range and just not posted.
Really good games. Thanks.
Spicy 🔥
Great first game!!
Thanks for another great video. Could you please explain how you figured a queen trade is in your favor? Is that because you were up a pawn?
Pretty interesting last game
GG!
Good sleeping video
Thank you Eric😂
Hell yeah!
I don’t understand why you make it so close on clock for no reason… always makes my heart race
The goal is to explain the moves, that takes time
Just lost 4 in a row 😭😭 back to learning
keep at it buddy. I lost 8 in a row and was going nuts, then won 3 in a row and felt a lot better :)
Why "back to learning"? Just never stop, focus on the journey, not the result and disconnect your mood from game results.
Enjoy improving your skills!
@@AG_247I think he more just meant he wasn’t gonna play anymore games for a while, not that he actually stopped learning

My heart rate is up just listening to you- 4 seconds at the end.
12:05 _I love it when a plan comes together_ ^v^
At 11:45 instead of black Qa7+ how about Bxf3 first? Is it just a free pawn?
At 5:19 might you consider Bc5?
Develops the dark square bishop and pins the pawn on f2, so threatening Qxg3+
If 2. Be3 Bxe3
Queen can't take because of the knight and if pawn takes then Qxg3+ also winning the pawn.
If 2. Bf4 then e5
Just a thought.
At 5:00 could he have played bc5 pinning the pawn and threatening to capture on g3?
Nvm just bf4 in response
I find it strange that you now find the most beautiful moves so easily and resourcefully and have so much trouble in a tournament even though you have so much time in classical chess, is there an explanation for this? best streamer btw ;)
The explanation is that in those classical games his opponents are at least 500 rating points stronger than in these speedrun games.
Dam, you're good!
Eric it's 3am why you doing this to me huh?
real
You didn’t need sleep anyways
21:17 couldn't bishop take pawn and still threaten both queen and rook and maintain black's queen fork?
Thanks Eric!
Gambit-only speedrun next?
Finally, after spam-refreshing my TH-cam for 92 years!
Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeed run
Nice
When do you say you are master level and the speed run ends? Another great lesson btw.
14:20 does anyone else here like a voice from an advert playing here?
That first dude was such a pansy man. Look at him trying to flag you after you completely dominated him.
only thing wrong with this series is you don't post daily
we are so back
one of the main problems of the morra gambit is that black can transpose to alapin, which is not very nice and the complete opposite kind of opening
nice games
Start throwing pawns… punches? 😂
oh no my heart rate
Was the 1 draw the rating refund?
No, the refund had been a loss
Maby you could just call it 180 games. Zero losses. Has a nice ring to it.
speeding episode 61
18:10 very hard what? 🤨
fought game
Thanks a lot, super instructive content. O no my nigth sleep😖
Come visit WashU, Eric! Big fan!
mora of speedruns
Slowing for content!
You should actually wear a heart rate monitor and put it discreetly in the corner
Eric … title says episode 61 and you commented 62.
"episode 62" [Eric] --> 61 hehehe
To really tribute Marc Esserman you should have started the so called "clip music" after Nd5 and then proceeded to make animal noises and scream stuff like "banned" or "mock" and random movie quotes
Please Sir help us 900 elo players we are stuck here and I also try and learn.
What are these background noises?
