I installed motion sensored sprinklers in my garden. Whenever a critter gets near my garden, it sets off the sprinklers & scares them off. The only drawback is I have to remember to turn the water off to the sprinklers when I go out to my garden, lol, I got soaked a few times. They really work & are safe.
My neighbor has a radio in her shed that is never turned off. It keeps all critters away. When our property is especially quiet, I can hear the music… it makes me smile.
Your garden is lovely 💕 I live in Michigan and the only thing that keeps the deer and bunnies out of the gardens is a tall fence! My brother and sister in law built a beautiful fence around their flower and vegetable garden. Around their 7’ chicken wire posts and fencing; they used grapevines, old chippy windows to add their cottage style touch to it. They even put old doors in to enter the garden! It is absolutely stunning 😊 I’m looking forward to watching your garden bloom and grow 💐🍎🍓🥒
These are true words. Between the deer, gophers, birds eating the tops off my lettuces and chards, I feel robbed at the pass as I work so hard in my garden. The other day I came out to find that a gopher had taken down a ten year old artichoke plant! Of course it was loaded with artichokes not really ready to pick, but now we are eating them as minis. I hate gophers with a vengeance. I do have one or two gopher snakes. Wish they would work double time so I could get my garden back!
When you said "tea garden" I was imagining a wrought iron table and chairs, and ladies with parasols sipping tea and eating scones. But no! You mean growing your own tea! How great.
I thought the same thing, would be so pretty sitting on flagstone. Mary, make sure the rose crowns are not ever covered with soil. Your garden is beautiful ❤️
I was thinking the same thing. We planted some peppermint underneath our orange tree out here in Phoenix hoping it would stay in the shady area and it over grew the whole area
When I worked for a greenhouse, they always said if you were going to plant any kind of a mint to plant it in something like a cut off bleach bottle or a mouth shut, but he just is good. I planted it one year before I knew that, and it was so invasive not only that it was covered with flies that made it almost impossible to pass it without having a swarm come up from it.
Lambs Ear is what my husband planted around our garden and it is working to keep deer, rabbits and other critters from munching on his plants. I had bought the lambs ear to plant in my flower bed because I think it is pretty and it spreads. He needed something for his garden because the deer or rabbit had taken the tops out of some of his plants so I told him he should try some of my lambs ear . He planted it around the garden and so far it is working.Plants are looking great and we have squash and cucumbers already.Love your channel and you are the sweetest lady on TH-cam and believe me I have watched a lot of them. Just keep being you and we will keep watching.
Lambs ear doesn't work for me. I have that plus herbs and deer still eats everything else. They are a huge plague here. I have over 25 in the woods that are in my yard on a daily basis. We are in city limits so we can't shoot to scare them either. 😢
I agree, Mary is the best!! I watch several TH-camrs and she’s the only one I actually look forward to Wednesday at 9:00 so I can watch her videos. I don’t believe I have ever missed any of her videos since the beginning!!
I've heard, deer, ❤❤❤❤hate rosemary! Your garden looks wonderful! I love watching your video's because you get so much done, but they are always so calming for me.❤ I can't wait to see what you come up with for the sitting area.
I have always heard going number around the perimeter will keep the deer away. Its free anyway. We used a bucket with a camping top on it then took it outside to spread around. Also, a double fence will work. does not have to be tall either. Deer have no depth perception, so they will not jump it.
I don’t normally leave comments I know you really don’t have time to read them or get back to anyone. I was so shocked when you pulled out the Tiffany rose. Had no idea there was one, of course that’s my name :-) I also have some great natural tips for spraying your plant to keep the deer away. I don’t use chemicals at all. Everything is all natural in my garden. And your cucumbers will be beautiful growing up your grill trellis. What a great idea! I grow mine up against my chain-link sense. You just have to train them in the beginning to get them started . Everything is so beautiful as always!! I think you are the hardest, working, lady, I know!❤ I love your channel so much😊
Hello Mary!!! Your gardens are breathtaking!! You and John work together so well to make your yard a showplace!! I love the roses!!! Take care and God bless!!!
I paused the video to leave this comment. When one is living in deer country a high fence around the garden is needed otherwise we can't blame the wildlife for eating the food, they don't know any better. With your amazing and abundant God given skills Mary I have no doubt you could whip one up in a jiffy if you wanted to. It may change the visual aesthetic of a garden, but for myself I would rather know I haven't harmed animals in anyway just to keep them out. When in deer country we share the land with the animals, it is their land as well.
I love watching you work as you have so much energy. One thing I notice is that you will work in flip flops or similar . It’s amazing to me that your feet can tolerate stepping on a shovel etc. I think I’m just envious as I’d have wear supportive sneakers. Your channel is lovely especially as I age as I could work like that 10 yrs. I’m 72 & I’d love to do more now …but can’t . Keep inspiring us Mary !
I added the same comment to Mary as well earlier on. With a talent of Mary and her husband, their fence would probably look beautiful. One fun thing about deer fencing, is the type of vine flowers you can grow inside of them. With a deer fence, it's such a secure feeling, knowing that your hard work will not be destroyed in a blink of an eye.
The space is so beautiful. I look forward to seeing how it all grows for you. I have 3 cattle panels attached to raise beds that form a tunnel in the garden. I have grown pickling cucumbers, regular cucumbers, small pumpkins, beans, sugar pod peas and this year part of it has luffa on it. I think your cucumbers will do well. It’s all lovely Mary, and this is one of my favorite videos of yours.
What a beautiful relaxing place to sit & have a cup of coffee or tea. You need to put a Bistro Set & a bench down by the garden. You & John did an awesome job! ❤
I loved watching you plan & plant your garden again this year ~ then seeing you bring your first rose harvest into your “under the deck” space after getting it all fixed up… so excited for you !! Mary, you’re Always my favorite channel ~ just love everything about You, and your beautiful family… feel so blessed to share in your happenings, hard work, and happiness !!
A beautiful garden spot. Your roses will be beautiful when in full bloom. With your green thumb, you will have great success with your flowers and veggies.🌹🌿👐
Oh my goodness, I have just discovered your channel and quickly subscribed. I wish I had your energy and creativity. I am a 76 year old grandmother from the Texas Gulf Coast near Houston. I’ve had many health problems over the last year so cannot do what all I would like to do.. But I have discovered I can do container gardening on my deck which I am enjoying but when I see what you do I’m so inspired and entertained. Thank you and I’ll look forward to enjoying your channel. Love in Christ.
I grew up in Houston and loved the long growing season there. My dad always had a garden while we were growing up and then had one on his patio when he moved into a condo. I moved to northern New Mexico in 1999 and we have a short growing season. The danger of frost isn't over until June 1st! But we can also grow bulbs, which was hard to do in Houston.
I prayed for God to bless your garden and your ground. 💖 It was such a joy to watch, I live in the city with no land and miss gardening when I was at home, I couldn’t do it now if I had land but this was so wonderful and relaxing to watch with the nice music. I hope you have much happiness and produce to enjoy!
My grandmother used to plant her cucumbers along a chain link fence on the outskirts of her yard. The plants grew straight up the fence and spread out all over it. It was so much fun to spot the cucumbers as they grew.
As usual Mary isn't afraid of tackling a big project. 🤩 Tips for Roses Keep Neem oil handy for Mites. Add old compost every other year to feed them. Go barefoot in the garden for grounding benefits. Paint your toes nails dark to hide the dirt 😁😅
Your garden space will be beautiful once established, love how you and John work together ❤️ For the rose bushes, they are fairly easy to grow as long as you plant hardy ones, for colder climate. I'm in Canada 🇨🇦 and I have a rose garden, they come back every year. They like mulch, coffee grounds and I also give them rose fertilizer a couple of times a season. For keeping deer out of your garden The best-known deer repellent is ordinary bar soap. Hung from strings in trees or large shrubs, whether wrapped or unwrapped, the scent of the soap is said to keep deer away. Some people even attach soap bars to stakes, placed at 10- to 15-foot intervals along the perimeter of their property or garden area
Mary, you also asked about growing cucumbers on a frame and yes, it works beautifully! In SE Iowa, I thrifted the sides of a metal baby crib, leaning them against our garden utility shed and trained the cucumber vines on them. Easier to pick, less mess and they grew through mid-October. We had so many that our local food pantry was the recipient of dozens! I really look forward to your show! Best regards, Karen
Hi Mary the garden looks wonderful, what an industrious family you are. Regarding roses, I agree dead head often and prune back to a pink shoot if the branches get to leggy, I noticed wind around them so you may need to stake them. I plant calendular around mine to keep aphids at bay. I just loved the frilly pink rose. I chose all mine for perfume alone, if they aren't fragrant then they aren't in my garden. My favourite rose is Just Joey it blooms as big as side plate and starts off lemony and then gets lovely pink edges. I agree about the mint, mine even grows in the cracks in the concrete path!!. Have a great week, Gods blessings from NZ
When I saw you mulching and fertilizing your roses, I guessed those roses have never had it so good. I've grown roses for years and ignore them too much other than pruning and some fertilizing and they are hardy and beautiful. I've had great success with landscape roses lately-- totally care free-- but my favorite are David Austin English roses.
The new garden is just beautiful!!! My tip is to dig up all the mint plants and put them in pots. They will take over your whole garden. Also, if you have deer, you should probably add a tall fence. It’s so discouraging to come out and find your blooms have been annihilated. I think back to the Flower Massacre of 2019, when I learned the hard way about being diligent with spraying deer repellent.
This is my second comment, after I finished watching the whole video......I am in awe of your work......did you do this in one day, I wouldn't be surprised your a hard worker. Anyway, this is beyond beautiful !!!!! I am a gardener too, but you inspired me to do even more. Thank you !
I didn’t know you could plant tea plants. Could you show us how to harvest and use them when they are ready? I love how your garden space looks. The roses will be glorious when they fill out.
I love your weed whacking apron! Protects your legs. You can count on the kitties to be helping supervise! Mary, you really need more solid shoes to help protect your feet while you are working! Toes don’t grow back!☺️☺️☺️ I love the knockout roses. They bloom all summer. I deadhead the spent blooms and feed them with Rose Tone. Keep an eye for spotting on the leaves. Then I get out my neem oil. Everything looks so lovely and peaceful!
My lesson learned this year is build a bigger one! Mine are going crazy, going off trellis….and I still have to bend over to look under all foliage for cucumbers! Your garden is looking gorgeous! I also use red light deer deterrents.
I've grown cucumbers up 8' fencing, a baby crib mattress spring set on end vertically, cattle panel planted vertically, teepee stakes...Best way to go is up!
To keep your roses pretty you need to clip off the rose when it' looks like it's "dying' so new sprouts come out to produce more flowers. all you need to do is clip them that's all and they get more bushy and beutiful.
I've always grown cucumbers and squash on an arched hog panel. One year it was a completely covered tunnel and I was able to walk underneath to pick the cucumbers...so handy!
Dig a small hole beside the root ball of each rose, cover the hole with a flat rock. Add a banana peel into the hole every now and then this encourages the rose to produce more buds 🌹 Best of luck with your garden Mary!
I'm 66 years old. I put in my first raised beds. I planted tomatoes and peppers in one. The second was flowers. They did really good. I wish I would have done this years ago.
So fun, Mary! You make us feel like you took us along with you! I love Knockout roses--no diseases, just Japanese beetles, & they bloom all summer long! Fertilizer I love: RoseTone by Espoma
Roses love salt. I always put salt in the hole. And they grow amazingly. Yes I grow cucumbers on a trellis. They form better and have great airflow. I live in north Texas and gardening is not easy so I know in Ohio your garden will grow. If your dear and groundhogs will let it. Good luck and I can’t wait to see your results.
I don't know a lot about roses specifically, but I have a fairly good understanding of gardening in general. Mary, perhaps "salt" works in the particular area of this person, however, I can't imagine that table salt would benefit roses (or any plants) in any garden. Perhaps this person is referring to Epsom salt, which I have heard is beneficial in some gardens. I would talk to your local state's college extension office before adding "salt" anywhere in your garden.
I do believe you will need a fence for the deer. You're in such a wooded area, I can't imagine any other solution. My poor father had to raise his 6' fence to 10 FEET!...Let us know how things are growing!!! So many YT garden channels have lost the connection they once had with us simple gardener's ❤...LOVE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE ❤
The garden looks amazing. I use a trellis for cucumbers and squash. I had to put the watermelon and cantaloupe in another raised bed because it was crowding out everything. I have chocolate mint. It's yummy.
I wish you the best of luck with results from all your hard work. The roses are just beautiful. If you remember they are 'hungry, thirsty' individuals you won't have any trouble at all.
Good luck to you with your rose garden. One of the most beautiful rose gardens I have ever seen was in Santa Barbara, CA in June which is known as the “Mission Rose Garden” there are over 1,500 rose bushes.
The way you've planted your roses i think is the best way. They are heavy feeders the main thing to remember. Last year i grew my cucumbers on a tomato cage and I thought it worked out great. They were clean and i didn't have to dig thru the plants to find them.
Mary, I enjoyed this video so much! Such a peaceful time watching you create your beautiful garden. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I can't wait to see it as it grows. 🙂
Your garden looks so beautiful! I could see myself walking to the garden area frequently with a hot up if tea in the morning or a cold iced tea in the evening just admiring what God grows.
What a beautiful transformation, Mary. I'm sure that everything will thrive under your care. Looking forward to seeing the progress - from one rose loving gardener to another 🌹🌹🌹
What a lovely buffet you've planted for the deer! 🤣🤣🤣 They just love roses.... Deer will learn to maneuver around lamb's ear to get to what they want. A good strong and sturdy fence is your best option. We have many deer on our little peninsula and they are pretty resourceful when it comes to getting into gardens. I hope your beautiful garden grows and provides an abundant harvest for you.
@@jenitrull5788 my husband does the same thing. We have a shed right next to the garden and the radio plays 24/7. So far so good.
Your garden is lovely 💕 I live in Michigan and the only thing that keeps the deer and bunnies out of the gardens is a tall fence! My brother and sister in law built a beautiful fence around their flower and vegetable garden. Ha, you gave me a chuckle! Very clever idea!
Great idea I love that it doesn't harm the animals🙂
Oh to be young again and able to work in a garden... such joy ❣
Such joy indeed. Nothing feels better than working in the garden. My passion.
Build an 8' deer fence. You'll be glad you did. Nothing worse than coming to check your garden and every bloom is gone.
Great job on it!
These are true words. Between the deer, gophers, birds eating the tops off my lettuces and chards, I feel robbed at the pass as I work so hard in my garden. I hate gophers with a vengeance. I do have one or two gopher snakes. Wish they would work double time so I could get my garden back!
They will consider them a salad bar. Deer spray does work on roses but have to spray daily.
I wish it wasn’t so but it’s truly the only solution!
All I could think about watching you plant the garden was the deer are going to have a ball. Any plans for a fence?
Love to see husband and wife work together ❤
Tea roses by your tea plants…perfect. You’ll have the makings of a beautiful tea party, Mary. With cucumber sandwiches!
Yes! 😊
When you said "tea garden" I was imagining a wrought iron table and chairs, and ladies with parasols sipping tea and eating scones. But no! You mean growing your own tea! How great.
I thought the same thing about the tea garden 😂
Beautiful roses the garden looks amazing. You did such a great job. God Bless your Beautiful garden an family!
I thought the same thing!!!!
I thought the same thing, would be so pretty sitting on
flagstone. Mary, make sure the rose crowns are not ever covered with soil. Your garden is beautiful ❤️
😅
You are the hardest working woman
Mary, you amaze me. You work so hard…..in a skirt and flip flops! Love your channel, I always choose it first. This messy old lady admires you.👍
Mint is VERY invasive and will spread all over the place ... best to put in pots 😊
I put some mint in a pot and set it in the ground. Within one season it completely took over everything. It will take me years to pull it all.
Milk jug and then planted in the ground , voice typed

I've heard, deer, ❤❤❤❤hate rosemary! Your garden looks wonderful! I love watching your video's because you get so much done, but they are always so calming for me.❤ I can't wait to see what you come up with for the sitting area.
I have always heard going number around the perimeter will keep the deer away. Its free anyway. We used a bucket with a camping top on it then took it outside to spread around. Also, a double fence will work. does not have to be tall either. Deer have no depth perception, so they will not jump it.
Your new garden looks lovely, now all you need is a seat where you can sit and admire it..😁
I’ve grown cucumbers on trellis for years it works beautifully
I don’t normally leave comments I know you really don’t have time to read them or get back to anyone. I was so shocked when you pulled out the Tiffany rose. Had no idea there was one, of course that’s my name :-)
I also have some great natural tips for spraying your plant to keep the deer away.
I love watching you work as you have so much energy. One thing I notice is that you will work in flip flops or similar . It’s amazing to me that your feet can tolerate stepping on a shovel etc. I think I’m just envious as I’d have wear supportive sneakers. Deer fencing is a must for us in Colorado❤
Beautiful. So much reward from gardening this way. Deer won't relent. You will be devastated and sad. Fence them out now! Be blessed.
Now you need a small sitting area to enjoy the roses having tea and berries 🙂
We feed orioles and hummingbirds. Orioles love grape jelly and it is fun to watch them feed the babies the jelly.
Your garden is beautiful. I just live listening to all the different birds. Thank you.
The space is so beautiful. I look forward to seeing how it all grows for you. I have 3 cattle panels attached to raise beds that form a tunnel in the garden. What a beautiful relaxing place to sit & have a cup of coffee or tea. You need to put a Bistro Set & a bench down by the garden. You & John did an awesome job! ❤
What a beautiful garden. An 8' foot fence to keep all the deer out!
You are one hard working woman. God bless you, your family and your garden. Beautiful and bountiful.
Girl you are strong! I would love to have your knee strength.
Beautiful. Now you need a bench or two to sit and watch everything grow Will be watching 🤩

Keep Neem oil handy for Mites.

Beautiful…birds singing, flowers, edibles and wildlife! 💕

Just wonderful have you bring your ideas from a “dream” to a “ reality” in such a short time and of course having a helper as you do is invaluable
Mary you did an amazing job, your garden is so beautiful. Please keep us updated so we can all learn together ❤
Beautiful garden! One think I love about planting herbs is the deer won’t eat them 😁
I'm 66 years old. I put in my first raised beds. I planted tomatoes and peppers in one. The second was flowers. They did really good. I wish I would have done this years ago.
Years ago when I gardened I had both cucumbers and zucchini trellised.
So fun, Mary! You make us feel like you took us along with you! I love Knockout roses--no diseases, just Japanese beetles, & they bloom all summer long! Fertilizer I love: RoseTone by Espoma
So Pretty and Peaceful!!!!!!!!!
Mary the Rosa's are beautiful love your garden thankyou for sharing 😊
Actually, I was kinda admiring that weed whacking apron! lol
How inventive and practical!
Beautiful serene garden area, now all you need is a bench to relax and enjoy your garden.
My dad and granddad leased a city lot for our garden, butDad had beautiful rose gardens
Love the rose bushes. Can't wait to see how they grow
Wunderbar Eure Arbeit!Jetzt noch ein weißer Gartenzaun mit einen Rundbogen als Eingang ...😊Herzlichen Dank ❤
This space is gorgeous ! You accomplish so much each day! I need your motivation!
Unless there is a fence, your hard work will always be eaten. See you soon!
You are truly gifted! Everything you do has a beautiful, peacefulness.
Your house and garden are so beautiful and the house for the bee is so pretty love it all ❤😊
We had a small hoop about 5ft. tall. We grew our cucumber on. Was great. Didn’t have to bend over to pick them.
Such a hard working family! Certainly admits your work ethic and so happy the gardens bring you joy.
One of my favorite videos.
Love being outside in the dirt😊
If used vintage wooden step ladders for support for cucumbers and green beans. Works great.
Wow!! How beautiful!! There is nothing like a garden!
Mint will takeover. Love the rose garden! You need a bench down there. The bee transfer is perfect.
The taste of garden fresh veggies and fruit is like nothing in the grocery stores. It's shelf life is also so much longer too.
What a beautiful garden. It’s going to look so nice with all the roses. 😊🇨🇦
I love your garden one of my favourite things to do is gardening thank you for sharing your beautiful garden ❤😊
PS. . Love your ideas about the roses!!! The garden will be enhanced by their beauty...
You might as well go buy fencing for your garden. Neem Oil is good to deter insects on roses and you can use it on any flower.
Mary, you and John did an amazing job on your garden. The roses add so much to the garden.
The tea garden and rose garden I think were my favorite additions ❤️. Thank you for the inspiration.
Your garden is magnificent! I just Love all your creative ideas and inspiration…..thank you!
It looks great! I’m excited to watch it all mature!
Garden looks beautiful!
What a beautiful transformation, Mary. I'm sure that everything will thrive under your care. Looking forward to seeing the progress - from one rose loving gardener to another 🌹🌹🌹
Your garden looks lovely!! So inviting to sit a while and have a cup of tea to enjoy!!
What an accomplishment! I’m sure you will enjoy this garden for years to come. I loved watching you build it and look forward to updates
