Just started yesterday with Recall in HS or Wag Nation. So much fun. Zuka loves playing all of the games in ALL of Susan's videos. My biggest challenge is choosing a word that we (my husband & I) will be using. Still not sure since I keep making a mistake and using her name which Susan does but other people in my home use her name all the time and don’t expect a recall. Gotta put on my thinking cap.
Thank you for these excellent ideas. All my dogs have been easily motivated by food rewards and toy rewards from puppyhood, but friends have often said to me that their dogs don't care about rewards. I will definitely be passing on these great, practical ideas.
LOVE this series. I are in H360 and recallers with my adult dog and puppy, but from day one my puppy had no drive for food or toys or me really, only for the other dogs, and even then he put himself to bed alot. The last 8 months have been about getting his digestive issues sorted and we are at a point now where he is eating and will take treats and it's the perfect time for us, for these games - games specifically to increase food drive and drive in general :). My adult dog loves food, so no worries there but she still loves these games :)
Pono and I LOVE these games! We have been struggling with eating treats while walking for years. And now we are finally making great progress! I am finally getting a practical understanding of the premack principle and how to apply it. We only have one little hiccup, when doing cookies on the fly my iyc champ reverts back to his puppy shark days. I feel like if I stop to do an iyc hand closing, we would lose all that beautiful momentum...any thoughts?
Possibly lower level treats to start? Just a thought. Personally I do a conglomeration of treats. Even my Beagle/JRT mix who is a shark with food, is not thrilled about it, but she starts thinking - well how 'bout if I do this? How 'bout this? Quick sharp marker word, pause, reward from the other hand. Sometimes, especially with puppies, wait them out too. Hope that helps.
