Tatsumi impregnated Myne just before being captured alongside Lubbock in the Imperial Palace, that’s how the two got married and had a kid even though he became a dragon in the end 4. Leone still dies, but Prime Minister Honest goes out in a much more gruesome way; instead of her bashing his skull in like the anime, she throws him out the window - after which a huge crowd comes to literally tear him apart limb to limb, as they stand in a line, each waiting for their turn, while Honest is tied up (fucker got what he deserved) 5. The entire Wild Hunt arc was skipped because the anime was ahead of the manga while the author was still writing it - and it was probably a good decision on the anime staff’s part, because that entire arc in the manga is just too edgy and unnecessarily dark, even for AGK (if you want to know, Syura was the leader of the Wild Hunt group, and they were basically a more brutal and ferocious version of the Jaegers after the Jaegers lost more than half of their team; there were three rapists in that group, one of which was a child diddler) 6. Kurome doesn’t die, she survives and makes up with Akame (and it’s also implied that she also gets with Wave in the ending) 7. Run is killed in the Wild Hunt arc in the manga, after which Kurome uses her sword to make him her puppet because she was too attached to him and couldn’t accept the fact that he was dead; Wave later inherits his Imperial Relic, Mastema, and uses it in tandem with Grand Chariot because he’s built different like that 8. Wild Hunt grape and murder Bors’ wive and daughter after his death, which makes the remaining Jaegers absolutely despise them and see them as enemies 9. That’s pretty irrelevant when half of the crew already died, so there’s the whole “not everyone will make it back”. In the anime, literally nobody but Akame survived, in the manga, it provides closure and happiness to what seemed to be a story full of despair.

He is still permantly disfigured into a dragon form, almost everyone is still dead so the message isn't forgone. It just shows how only a few people really get semi-relaxed endings after chaos like that, and have to live with the guilt of losing so many people
Well to be honest, both endings show that pretty clearly, not just the manga. There are "just" 2 more people dead in the anime (which I cried for tbh but still) Not every story having a happy ending is what makes it awesome for me. I think it aligns perfectly with how they have shown all character deaths in the first place. Dark setting gives an accomplished ending with a dark background. But I can understand your pov to like a more happy ending, I mean, who didn't want him to have a happy life. But he basically lost his crush (village girl) and then his first gf so he didnt have anything to live for afterwards in the manga

It is happy ending but i feel so bad for Esdeath honestly. Sure she is pure evil but she is also broken in some way because if her past and her lost if teh people and hoem at young age which what caused her to become growing up a person sge is now, plus her love for Tatsumi was hinest and genuine depite the fact her love for him was obsessive manipulative and possessive. I feel like they figured out that how much love Esdeath got from the fans while Mine wasn’t never really fan favourite she’s awfully annoying in the anime so they probably just decided to go with the second ending that was either planned or not
Without considering that in the anime it is not only the ending that is bad, but the entire final part, they summarized around 30/40 chapters in 5 episodes, cutting entire sagas and making many things happen "why yes", and completely ignoring all the in-depth analysis of some characters.

Im late to this, but in the manga Leone and Tatsumi, Esdeath and Tatsumi, or Akame and Tatsumi would have made a better ending than Mine and Tatsumi.😭 They don't even seem compatible. Except the part, where Tatsumi became Dragon and couldn't change to human form. At least make him could form back as a human. I don't know but I really hate that part. The anime was better than manga tbh I also think the dynamic of Tatsumi and Esdeath was great like constantly trying to bring her to his side same with Esdeath, Even her saying to Tatsumi when locked up pleading to Tatsumi to run away with her and forget everything and be together like they was on the island. The Mai thing was just random
