      @Bluesbreaker66 So for you a guitar is basically some pickups with stuff around them to hold the strings... You are pretty dumb or dont know anything about guitars. Or possibly both

  • @mrbr4587

    The era of expensive guitars, which only great idols had, is over.
    Some modifications and improvements made by a competent luthier on this guitar and you will have a good instrument.
    Of course added to that a good amplifier ... And know how to play ...

    Have two SX VTG Strats and both were set up great right out of the box. Replaced the sting tree with roller type. The stock pick ups are a little brighter that stock Fender, but if you roll the tone knob back a notch or two it then sounds like the Fender. Exceedingly great value for the price. As good as a $700 Fender for around a $100 shipped.

    • @InspiringTracks
      @InspiringTracks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They keep improving quality without rising prices. I bought mine used ridiculously cheap but needed a fair amount of job to be in playable condition. I guess with cheap guitars the playability from the factory is a matter of luck. Cheers!

      +EpictheEpicest You are right, they are really really close, and the settings used where exactly the same on both, with a little tweaking they can get even closer

    • @redjacket8499
      @redjacket8499 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not ao aure its a fair comparison though. Being that pickups in sx are fender. So it basically has the aame generalized electronics as the fender. That being said, the sx has a bit more mid range to my ears, possibly wood?

    • @Luckyrider1958
      @Luckyrider1958 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redjacket8499 You just made the entire point.. a 200 SX , with less than 100 worth of pickups = a Fender costing 3 to4 X more.

  • @ThorneyedWT
    @ThorneyedWT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    I guess most difference was from the maple neck vs rosewood. Strat is fairly simple guitar made of fairly simple wood. No need for extra-old rare mahogany or anything like that, and then modern CNC machines will make you proper body and neck shapes. Pickups are simple devices too, all you need is use good magnets and wire and maintain good QC. And there you go, cheap guitars these days can be as good as fairly expensive ones were 20-30 years ago. Though there are enough reasons to pay more, if you want something extra.

    • @Luckyrider1958

      Just bought an old SX strat. The previous owner clearly did not know nothing. Not adjusted action. Never turned the truss rod to a better tension. He never heard one tuner needed fastening, it was rambling. Intonation was a scale from outer space. Too high. Ah, and one tone control pot was starting its own life. Almost gone. But still, this is a 200 dollar or euro guitar, and to be honest, when you buy an excellent set of strings you are used to, when you sand down the frets to YOUR level, when you fight that neck (mine has a bend right where it leaves the body), you might get an awsome guitar. Besides, a little high action, because of that weird neck, is very okay, when playing energetic, I got large hands, I don't mind. So, try building such an instrument for 200 yourself, good luck! Kind of like it. Plans are building a body myself, hard wood. Having a neck and some other hardware is easier than building it all myself. First get this neck straight, get the action as low as possible. Maybe I will simply add a humbucker and that's it.

      The average person doesn't need "more". I find it ridiculous for a person to go spend $1000+ on a guitar if they're only as good as a local garage band. That extra money isn't buying anything better if the person playing it is mediocre. A good guitar player can make a $100 guitar sound like a $1500 guitar.

      I completely agree with you, after changing the pickups and adjusting the SX, it became very close to a traditional Fender, which is no longer a secret. The difference that I personally felt was the neck, which I particularly prefer to be maple.

      SX guitars are brilliant, the first I got was a Tele and was blown away by it after some very minor work that I sold my genuine Fender Tele on EBay.
      I then got a SX Strata, minor set up work, including brass nut changed, and once again just blown away again, a blinding guitar for no money !
      I would also recommend Tokai Les Paul's guitars, better than Gibson and a third the price.... you wont be disappointed..

      Inspiring tracks....... Fender & Gibson have been ripping off people long enough, the fact is they were good in there day and now only the gullible buys there over priced products SX guitars are great and at a great affordable price, easily turning from a pigs ear into silk purse if you get my drift.
      Another brilliant guitar is Tokai les Paul, had mine 12 years now, plays and sounds like a dream and would match it up against any Gibson , even a 59 LP. Wouldn't sell it for the world.

    Buen video loco, lo vi en Musiquiatra. A pesar de que los agregados en la cadena de audio (pedales, ampli y procesamiento de audio en el video) obviamente emparejan el sonido; las violas realmente terminan estando cerca en el tono, las diferencias entre una y otra son bastante sutiles y no necesariamente la Fender sonó siempre mejor. Tengo que decir que me sorprendió.

    ¡Magnífica interpretación! En cuanto a las guitarras, me gustó algo más la Fender, pero por muy poco. Además, hay que tener en cuenta que llevan diferentes pastillas, cada una con su propio timbre. Habría que ver cómo suenan con la mismas pastillas en las dos guitarras. En todo caso, hay que reconocer que SX es una excelente opción para conseguir un buen sonido strat a bajo precio. Yo tengo una SX American Alder Series Strat que me costó sólo 132€ nueva. Le cambié toda la electrónica y le instalé pastillas Tonerider Surfari y estoy encantado. Inversión final: 270€. Increíble que por tan bajo precio puedas tener un sonido strat de tan buena calidad.

    buenísima comparación, le atiné a la adivinanza! el maple a mis oídos siempre tiende a sonar más agudo, un poco más "nasal" a falta de mejor expresión, mientras que el palo de rosa un poquito más oscuro y con mejores medios... O al menos así fue en este caso, en mi opinión. Suena excelente la SX! Muy buena versión por lo demás, le sacaste súper bien el sonido a ambas strat... pegándoles justo donde suenan más rico! buen sonido de grabación además, se entienden todos los matices del "aire" que empuja el amplificador.

      How do people tell the difference between a rosewood and maple neck? I am listening to old recordings of famous guitarists it is hard to say from the recording if she or he was playing a rosewood or maple neck guitar. Pine, mahogany, alder body guitar, it all sound the same to me and even harder to tell when it goes through different amps and chained effect pedals. I have heard of guys who were able to sit outside an Aero smith concert and guess when Joe Perry was playing a guitar with maple, and rosewood necks. That is impressive.

Tu ejecución es muy buena, felicidades! por un momento creí que la guitarra uno era la SX pero al llegar a la parte donde muestras los specs de cada guitarra es donde se logra captar la pequeña diferencia en la presencia y color de cada una! excelente video!! las SX en general que tal salen sin upgrades? saludos!

La Fender tiene un no se qué, son una suma de muy pequeños detalles que te transmiten otra sensacion al tocarla. Yo pienso seguir con mi vieja y batallada SX mucho tiempo mas. No te enrosques demasiado, se puede hacer excelente música tanto con una SX como con una Fender! Si llegas a comprarla buenísimo, no te vas a arrepentir pero si no no te hagas mucho drama! Saludos

    • @InspiringTracks
      @InspiringTracks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lajos Vas both are good guitars, if you want to play hard rock or using high gain distortion go for a guitar with humbuckers, less noise and fatter tone. A guitar like a strat is more versatile but tends to be a little thin and noisy in that situation.

      +Lajos Vas they are a really good choice in a budget but I recommend you to test the guitar before buying and check for buzzing frets, string action and noisy pots/switch. The amp choice really depends on want genre you want to play. I have an all tube Marshall DSL 40c and is a really versatile amp. Amazing rock tones in the drive channel, cristaline cleans and also takes pedals really well.

      Thank you for reply.. well i want just to start to play Electric guitar.im do play Classical Guitar until now.but i want to try to make solo to country music .. it sounds just more exciting with e guitar and some goo dpedals. i am 61 years now and i know about all the music in the 60s and 70 s . it was a fantastic time in terms of music. Rock and of course mini -skirts.
      i was on the ACDC concert in 1982 where i managed to get about 10 meters close to the stage,
      today i went to look for E-guitars and amps in a shop here in Thailand. they had 30% off for some amps. also good and expensive . But as i am a beginner and don t have a big budget,. i chose a "Laney"amp. what was about 180 USD and i got it for 100 USD.. i will start with this and slowely buy some good pedals. i want to try solo from Country music . soft and sweet sound. i m not playing Heavy metal.
      unfortunately, i cant try the SX guitar . i did not see one here in Thailand.so i need to buy it by Amazon or another place who are shipping guitars to Thailand . or i buy a second hand here from a pawn shop . there was the second hand Squire _Strato caster but the guy did not respond my email. he asks it for 100 USD second hand but great looking.
      there are some other second-hand guitars around.
      AS a beginner, i cant afford a high price. so max 300 USD. but i probably have to buy then in USA or Amazon..
      now could buy also a vintage guitar for 440 USD . .1970s Tomson Splendor Mustang or a GUYATONE LG50T - 1970's Japanese guitar for 690 USD.. and an Ibanez Jet King 2, Produced in Indonesia 2004 for 590 USD . all amazing sound guitars I did see them all on Yutube review.
      but it is a bit high ptice for a beginner. What you think ?? Thank you and all the best.

    • @InspiringTracks
      @InspiringTracks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you need to buy blind I would go for a Squier, they at least have Fender behind the brand and their quality control is more consistent. With SX (and other non big asian brands) is sort of a lottery. I also have an SX Jazz Bass and is totally flawless: excellent fret job, good hardware, nice finish, ready to play from the factory! On the other hand the guitar of the video (wich I got second hand dirt cheap) needed a little fret dress and the hardware was not the best so I ended modding it to my liking. Check out Cort guitars too, they are a solid option in the budget an also the GIO line of Ibanez, I have a GRG 270dx (wich I got dirt cheap too) and is really amazing for the money.
      Congratulations and welcome to the family of electric players! If you already play clasical guitar the change will be easy and you won´t regret it!! Have fun!!!

    • @RenoWeedLajos
      @RenoWeedLajos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much.. very kind.
      i will follow your advice..
      Yesterday i bought the amp. I am 61 years now and its my first amp. for some of the Amps. they had sells of 30% discount. and that's what pushed me and why I took the occasion. I bought a Laney amp. for 120 USD instead of 180 USD. i m sure this will do for the start.. and later i can buy something better.
      they also had expensive amps with a 30% discount. but my budget does not allow me such buy. i stil do mnot have a guitar. so i have toi think on this buy too.
      but i am a starter anyways. and in some years i can buy the amp of my dreams if i am doing some progress.
      i am absolutely not talented in learning and playing guitars. but i always loved music and guitars. In the 60s as teen ager I loved nearly all music. Hardrock. Country music and all popular. blues and Roch n roll. nearly any music.
      sadly my parents did not help me when I wanted a classical guitar for start learning. I was about 12 years old. it was in the 60s. in the highest time of rock music. if i could have had a guitar with 12 years. i would not have struggled when i started later with 20 years. it is the best is to learn AN INSTRUMENT AS CHILD. ...YOU CAN MAKE SUCH PROGRESS AND LEARN EASIER. AND WITH 20 YEARS I COULD HAVE PLAYED IMPRESSIVELY GUITAR AND MAYBE IN A BAND.
      i m absolutely no talent and my guitar teacher who could play anything. Every solos already in the 70s !! Jimy Hendrix. Deep Purple. Led Zeppelin.. anything ! he then advised me after about the third lesson to go for some other hobby. but i think it was unfair. Obviously, he was a very talented guy and had the ability to learn to play guitar very well and very easy so he might not have understood that others do not have the same ability to learn.but what is unfair is that i loved guitars .. and he was not a big help. at least i learned the blues notes and i did not forget this. it is also to say. that a guitar teacher . is not really a real teacher. he did not learn how to teach. but he is a musician who needs money. and what amazing guitar player would really and truly want to teach. its more fun to play. but we all need money to survive.

      Thanks! The amp is totally clean and all the dirt is comming from the TS. I'ts a clon I made myself, the very first pedal indeed and surely I must made a mistake in some component value or placed it in the wrong place because, comparing it with a friend's original Ibanes TS-808 from the 90's mine sound very bright, with lower output volume and the tone pot don't work that great but, by some happy accident I can get from it waaaaay better Vaughan tones than with the real thing so decided to let it as is. Some day I'll check it to see what is wrong that make's it sound so good!

    First of all your playing is excellent !!! Great choice of song (SRV Little Wing) and very technical. As for the test, it was very interesting, I could hear a small difference in the pickups from the start, but nothing big or something that you can'f fix to taste, but are these factory pickups? I think the most important question is how does the SX feel in your hands? What about the neck or the action? It did sound like a quality instrument to me, I'll be waiting for your thoughts on playability other than what you mentioned "I already was pleased with the way it plays and sounds for a cheap ass guitar".

    • @InspiringTracks
      @InspiringTracks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!! I'm glad you liked my playing and the video in general. The pickups are Fender tex mex in both guitars. The neck feel ok but is not awesome. Maybe because I'm fan of medium jumbo frets (wich the fender has) and this SX has smaller frets that became even smaller after a leveling and re crowning. I was looking to replace them but I ended buying another SX with factory Jumbo frets and swapping the neck. Waaay cheaper (and easier) than putting new frets wich is another bonus for this cheap guitars. Now it plays and feel awesome. Cheers!!

      La electrónica (potes, selectora, jack, etc) no te va a influir casi nada en el sonido pero sí es el día y la noche en cuanto al tacto. La selectora de fábrica de las SX es un flan. Si pones una Dimarzio o Fender cada posición encaja perfecto y te da una precisión que no tenes con la otra. Y con los potes lo mismo. Se pueden usar sin problema los originales pero si podes cambiarlos no te vas a arrepentir.
