  • I bought a new electro acoustic guitar last week. The Yamaha AC3R ARE is solid wood in construction, and has some trick electronics up it's sleeve. Here's my thoughts, a short acoustic demo, and a looper jam.
    In short, I like it, and can recommend it as one to consider.
    Thanks for watching,
    Robbo.

    Nice to see you back Robbo! The end solo jam really brings me back to random old vinyl records I would buy from the 60's at local record stores in california. So relaxing and classy.

      Many thanks Mick, it's a guitar I didn't know much about until a few weeks ago. I'm glad I followed it up and bought one, I'm very happy with it. I hope you're well my friend, cheers.

    Always a great pleasure to see a new video of yours pop up on the youtube homepage! I have to say the new guitar sounds really good. Just in case them winter blues get the better of you (it certainly tends to have that effect on me) and I won't see you again before your operation, I want to wish you a speedy recovery and hope that all goes well.
    Looking forward to the next one! Also looking forward to hearing you sing again at some point.

      Thanks so much Paul, always a pleasure to hear from you. Those Winter blues definitely get to me as well, I just took the week off work to refocus and reset, so hopefully have brushed them off for a while :) Very best to you mate, Rob.

    Very cool video. I love Yamaha guitars, always so well built. I have two L series and love them. The Ac3 is a lovely guitar too.

    • @robbolandsvids
      @robbolandsvids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks very much. The L series look great, I think it was just the lack of a cutaway body that made me go for the one I did rather than an L series, but I'd be extremely happy with either. I also have an AEX 500, hybrid humbucker/piezo hollow body thing , and a 1980's Yamaha 12 string that just growls, always fun ! Cheers, Robbo.

      @@robbolandsvids I love the sound of 12 string guitars, that big chorus style sound is the biz! I'm looking forward to checking out more of you videos. Cheers Hugh

      Thanks very much. My 12 string is low tuned to an Open C , (CGCGCE from low to high), and has an old beast of a pickup in the soundhole. I found this old clip of it growling nicely. Cheers :) th-cam.com/video/MBl7IFsYdIo/w-d-xo.html

    played a Yamaha similar to this the other day, I liked it but I'm definitely the dreadnaught guy playing the guitar that is way too big me but I don't care. Your demo was nice and thorough. I'm looking at a condensing mic I think as well to improve my recording. Now to convince the wife!

    • @robbolandsvids

      I am a fan of Dreadnoughts, I've got a few here, including a lovely but battered Japanese built 1980's Aria, that lives in an open C tuning, and just growls ! If you order a bunch of flowers when you order the mic, that might do it :) Cheers, Rob

    Hallo Mr. Rob!
    i just bought a yamaha ac3r too. but has a problem, the strings are too high and my fingers hurt when playing it.
    is that so? Or is there something that needs to be tweaked?

    • @robbolandsvids
      @robbolandsvids  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, thanks for your comment. You can put lighter strings on the guitar, I would suggest 11's, (the guitar arrives with 12's, which are a little heavier). With the string height, I have lowered the bridge saddle on mine, and also lowered the nut slots. This is not difficult or expensive, (there are many youtube videos explaining this), but would be best to have a guitar shop or somebody with experience look at this for you just to make sure it is done correctly. I hope this helps, many thanks, Rob.

      Definitely take it and have it set up by a professional. They will check the neck relief, and string action height. If necessary they will adjust the truss rod then file the nut slots or lower the saddle, whichever may be necessary. I would make sure they check the intonation as well.

    That guitar sounds great. Just to say also, it’s really good to hear something that isn’t the beige rice pudding of bog standard TH-cam guitar. I am so tired of it all. I dare say they may throw you out of the knitting circle for not following a I, IV, V pattern (acoustic) or multiple / frequent mid neck bends (electric) but you put it up and I’ll watch it. Take care and peace.

      Thanks so much. I totally agree about the blandness and predictability of a lot of channels. I'm deliberately trying to avoid my old blues licks and try something new each time. Thanks for noticing :) Cheers !

    Another nice buy, mate. Certainly sounds good. I've been through cataract operations on both eyes. No big deal, they only take about 20 minutes, or so. Worth it, to get your sight back. Cheers 'n' beers, dude.

      It'll be nice to be able to see again ! I have to have general anaesthetic for my surgeries as they're worried about me not being able to keep still because of my Tourette's. They're worried I'll have a twitch and they'll cut my ear off. Wimps !!
