Garrett definitely helps us make our houses into our homes. During my last consultation he carefully helped me see a huge 80's lithagraph rainbow vibrant family hand-me-down would knock my quiet atmosphere sideways. He gave me the space to admit I didn't want it and then smiled gently and agreed. My beloved nature prints are much more me and his support uplifted my decision. He is priceless!
It’s good to have people in your life who will tell you the truth KINDLY. I’m glad you’re using something beloved instead of feeling obligated to use something you don’t love. Home is our sanctuary.
You mentioned potentially doing a video about shopping for quality vinyl flooring. I’d love to see that. Your advice is always so helpful, and I’ve learned a lot from you over the years. Thanks for all your work.
Had to add to my comment 😂 I never got that donut vase because I said the same thing how are you going to put a flower in it. I will say I did buy a brass flat eye that’s a magnifying glass to place on top of my coffee table book and I debated with myself like “Lucy, do we really need this in our life?” Surprisingly enough I use that eye all the time to help me see small print all the time, I love it.
When I downsized into an apartment, I spent a little extra money buying Vinyl luxury plank flooring. I had every threshold removed, (in case I ever need to go on a walker) and I ran it from wall-to-wall even into the bathroom. I adore it! It’s so easy to maintain! But spending that little extra was the key. Most people coming to my apartment for the first time actually think it is hardwood flooring. If you are older, luxury vinyl is the way to go, A quick vacuum, an occasional damp mop, the floors are spic and span, AND sanitary, even if you have naughty little dog. But I am with Garrett stay away from using overly trendy styles!
I agree! Absolutely love mine, no thresholds either. The only place I didn’t put it was under my stacked washer and dryer, waaaayyy to difficult to coordinate someone come and move them, then come back to re install. The floor installer just ran it about an inch under and it worked perfectly. But as you, we bought the really good LVT, it’s worth it. 😊
🇦🇺 ❤ As always, right on point. Back in the sixties I lived for a year in Copenhagen. I had already become a fan of Scandinavian design, so spent a lot of time in furniture and design shops and studying the homes I visited. What I saw was certainly not maximalism, but neither was it minimalism. I learned that good Scandinavian design is simply “intentional”: attention paid to what a space needs from both an aesthetic and practical POV, but also incorporating the essence of the occupant or user. In other words, the same design principles as most other design styles, but applied with greater discipline than is often the case.
Exactly! I grew up on Nordic farm and what people on the internet call “Scandinavian” or “farmhouse” is just confusing! Someone even claimed that we don’t use curtains so all the natural light gets in. I was looking at my massive thick winter curtains stopping cold getting in and wondering what is going on
I have a collection of carved wood vases with test tube inserts. They look great with or without flowers. Actually, I bought them from artists for the unique carved nature of each piece. They look great together. I started collecting wooden art when I had many young children and needed unbreakable items.
Hello 👋 ooh I know a few people that have overdone spaces that could benefit from this video. I’ll be sure to pass it on 😊 or at least have some organization to it. Looking forward to the video.
We installed VPF throughout the house. There were about 14 different patterns, I was careful to not place similar pieces next to each piece. The floor has not been as durable as I expected. I put a sound barrier as well as a vapor barrier. Thank you for your content. I enjoy all your ideas.
Thank you for your good advice, I am redoing my kitchen and have no choice but to put the microwave over my stove. I have a small kitchen and used a kitchen planner to help me maximize my space. The contractor I am using steered me away from vinyl plank flooring my kitchen. I am using hardwood flooring to match what I currently have. I put vinyl plank flooring in my basemen and like it.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate you! I would prefer the hardwood if it’s a match. I wouldn’t put LVP against hardwood anyway. I would have done tile or stone in the kitchen if the hardwood wasn’t a match. Glad it was.
1. I love your sweater! 2. Your dogs are adorable. 3. Difficult to be confident in my design choices when picking items that I actually like, which don’t look like Pinterest pictures, because its hard to imagine what the outcome will be.. 4. I cannot stand the feel of LVP on my bare feet (looks like wood, feels like plastic… not a fan).
I agree, sometimes it can be hard to design a space and visualize the end result. That’s a common issue I work with clients on, but then the spaces that are created are gorgeous.
OMG when Cornelius turned to the camera and blinked with one eye, I lost it!!! Had to rewind!! Love to the puppies 🤩 I'm getting wide plank vinyl from Mohawk in the spring, it took forever to choose, thanks so much for your flooring video - and everything else!
Good evening Garrett, Thank you for today’s vlog and abundance of 2 gorgeous boys glimpses. Arden’s look when you are moving your hands like he might get some treat 😍 Even here we see very less of these abstract vases in all kind of stores but last year it was crazy. Scandy minimalism usually wherever I have seen is not done in a great way and hence it feels cold, lifeless kinda. Awww today Cornealius and Arden are so cute. The big boy is boss boy and the little one is an attention seeker:) For sure oven on top of the kitchen stove is dangerous anytime. Haven’t seen any here. Your store visit for tiles is an exciting idea!! You have a lovely week Garrett and hear from you soon🤗🥰
Thanks for sharing! The pups really wanted to be involved in the video which was great as it is usually their nap time when filming goes on. Have a nice week!🐕🐕🪽🪽❄️❄️
the pups! love! glad we got to see both of them today. 🐶🐶🐶. also I agree with trying to avoid the OTR microwave. i was able to move mine from over the range to the corner of my tiny kitchen. it makes a diff!
THANK YOU GARRETT for mentioning aesthetics. When we bought our first home 3 yrs ago, my brother came along to help pick flooring, cabinets, tile, etc., but everything he chose was ALL BLACK. I am not an ultra modern all black sleek interior person like he is. I also won’t post pics of my “perfect social media worthy” home (because it’s not and I don’t care 😂)
@Garrett LeChic, such a pleasure to enjoy another excellent design chat with you! I dearly hope you will be successful in your life's mission to eradicate the "builders' choice: microwaves over stoves" concept! We chose not to have a microwave at all in our home, & we don't even miss having one. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful design insights--much appreciated! 🙏🌿💐🌿🥰💚😘🌿💐🌿🙏
thank you for mentioning following the character of the particular house...we are moving into a 1960s colonial revival....we tend to prefer traditional and mcm styles so anything new we bring in will reflect more traditional pieces to reflect the style...we will be adding color into the current neutral space...
Sounds like another good topic, as always, stopping what I’m doing to watch 😊. Just saw it: Excellent advice! And Cornelius & Arden are stellar costars ⭐️⭐️!
Welcome to the channel! I hope you are enjoying enough to become part of our subscriber family. Just add some nice rugs and soft furnishings with taupes, tans and even a bit of brown to bring in some warmth. 😊😊😊
Mmmmm…. I have grey LVP and installed 10 years ago. I just use rugs to warm it up. My house outside is grey with an accent wall of brick. I have learned many tips and tricks from Garrett. Don’t hate but the grey floors stay lol 😂 but seriously thanks for sharing ❤
I can’t stand the whitewashed or boring beige interiors. I think it reflects the boring NPC people that follow trends and not the individual genuine character that they are. Great advice! Be you!
NPC means “non-playable character” it’s a video game term that basically means devoid of meaningful character or mass produced to fill the background, in a polite way of course!
The "vents" in the microwaves in my mother's home, as well as in my rented apartment, are so ineffective. Grease on the cabinets, on the ceiling: yuck!
I never liked those stupid vases,! While I doubt AD or Homeworthy will be ever beat down my door for a tour, I tried to make my apartment cohesive, welcoming, and comfortable. Bonus, the sweet little neighbor kids love to check out the pieces I have they've never seen before and I get to explain my music boxes, or my rolltop desk, or alas, my analog clocks. Trendy stuff can't compare to when a new neighbor or an 8 yr old walks in and says, "Oh, wow"!

Thank you so much for this insight into what a consultation is really like! So cool!

I appreciate your kind words. Thanks so much.
It always warms my heart seeing you so lovingly with your dogs 🥰
Thank you for another great video, there’s always something to learn from you ❤
You are so welcome! They are awesome boys. We love them dearly, but never forget Albert and Linus.

I do have a lovely square vase with a hole in the middle. As I watched you say get rid of them… I looked up and decided I still like it… for now. lol
I’m here on time - and looking forward to seeing what Garrett has for us today.
Thanks so much for your support Amy!
I made it within the first hour. I love your videos and personality so much!
Yay! Thank you! I appreciate your support.
Finally my collection of vintage Jetsonian midcentury vases is in style!
I had dark cherry laminate put in and my Sister-in~law said it looks like the Ponderosa on Bonanza 🤣🤣🤣

I like your sweater Garrett. You're looking fabulous as always❤

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!

I am short. Hate over stove microwaves. Ours sits on the counter at a corner. We have a stainless vent hood over the stove.
☑️☑️☑️
Dog siting already! My dog is in my lap, and I made sure to show her Cornelius and Arden.
👍👍🐕🐕🐕
My parents paid a pretty penny for their vinyl planks wood, it looks great.
Your sweater is gorgeous. It suits you very well. Irma from the Netherlands

Replat crew. Discovered you today. Loved this video! But now I will have to tear out my grey vinyl plank floor! Lol

I think it’s fine as long as it works for you! 😊
My aesthetic is a kaleidoscope. Or full sleeve color tattoos. Full color pet friendly maximalism.
Hello to Cornealius and Arden!
That's awesome! Thanks for watching!
Gret vinyl plank floor!! Yes!! I just bought an apartment and the real wooden parquet was replaced with this awful grey vinyl 😭😭😭
🤨🤨🤨
Oh my gosh, “the beige pacifier for my kid” is spot on! Your child's pacifier doesn't need to match your Instagram feed.
😆😆😆
Yessss. Gray vinyl plank floor needs to go bye bye
loathe gray floors...agree!
Was that purple, dried out eggplant vase an example of good decor? I could not tell.
Good is subjective. It’s at least an interesting take.
I live in a condo and hate that I don’t have a vent over my stove. No way to change it either..
I understand. Just have to do as much as possible with decor.
@ Thank you for the support!💜
💙💙💙💙
Is that a dog or a manatee? Super cute either way.
I think 3/4 of the stuff they put out there is decor for the sake of decor.
