Trey played and sang on the TTB remake of the Layla album, but I’m sure glad Susan sang this song. Derek toured in Clapton’s band for years, inheriting more and more of the solos. Derek, Susan, Trey, and TTB are probably the only ones who could do justice to the original. Hopefully they’ll make it back to NorCal this summer… their live album from Oakland in 2018 won a Grammy.
I'm an Australian and I don't know many people who know of the Tedeschi Trucks Band . I personally don't know why they aren't the biggest, most popular band on the planet, with the band's skillset the stage presence and the fact that it's a band of people actually playing instruments set to great lyrics and fantastic singing voices. What is wrong with our world.
Thank you for this reaction video! This may have been the first time I've seen the "reactors" hugging, because what they're watching is so beautiful. That music just transports all of us to a special place - and when you arrive you just need a hug. What could be more human?! I need more of this. TTB is the best.
Thanks for reacting to this, an awesome homage to the original. That is NOT Eric Clapton on stage with them- it's Trey Anastasio. They performed the entire album in this show, and this was the capper. TTB is the best band around and have been for the past 10 years, at least. Go see them live- it is literally a freight train of music, and you will not be disappointed.
As many have said, the other lead is Trey, but nobody has pointed out the left handed guitarist is Doyle Bramhall II, Doyle and Derek both have toured in Eric Clapton's band, Derek for a few tours and Doyle for many.
Eric Clapton wrote this song when he played with Derek and the Dominos. It's about Beatle George Harrison's wife. Eric was madly in love with her. Derek Trucks is playing the slide parts Duane Allman played when he and Eric recorded the Layla album in 1970.
I see that everyone is mentioning Trey on guitar, but the lefty guitarist is Doyle Bramhall II, son of Doyle Bramhall of SRV and Double Trouble, Derek Trucks and Doyle toured with Clapton as part of his band.....there was a brief period when Derek Trucks played in the bands of Clapton, Allman Bros and his own Tedeschi Trucks Band all at the same time on the road.
Derek was playing with the Allman bros when he was 13. Drummer Butch Trucks nephew and upcoming goat!also that slide part was used on Good fellows the gangster movie
As others have mentioned, that's Trey Anastasio on guitar. Although Phish kinda carried on after Jerry, Phish sounds nothing like the Grateful Dead. From my perspective, Phish is a unique sounding band that took improvisational performances to new heights. Trey's sound, with the custom Paul Languedoc guitars, is signature.
It was an absolute blast watching you guys groove out to this one - Derek absolutely KILLS it on the slide guitar here. I think somewhere Duane Allman is looking down from the astral plane and smiling at this one. Peace and love!
Derek Trucks was named in honor of that band (Derek and the Dominos) and Susan was born on the day 'Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs' was released in 1970. This is from the 2019 Lockn' Festival where TTB was billed as 'w/special guests' but that was it, just another show. Then they all come out and start playing the Layla album, start to finish and it takes a few songs before the audience realize what's happening. The soundboard recordings sounded so good that Derek decided to release it to the public and I bought the 3 disc vinyl version of "Layla Revisited (Live at Lockn')". You should too ;)
I love how Susan says thank you for having us at the end. No Susan, thank you for you and your band giving us one of the greatest performances I’ve ever heard of any song. It was breathtaking. There are no words to describe how amazing Derek Trucks on guitar.
So I'm in my 60's and have been listening to and loving all the music you two have been discovering. I love this band. They may be the best live band going these days and there are many. Some of my peers live in the past with respect to the music they love and listen to and miss out on great new bands while carping about today's music. TTB is currently on tour and I am really looking forward to seeing one of their shows in July that I have tickets for. Quick history on Derek and the Dominos. Eric Clapton quit Blind Faith and was tired of the Psychedelic scene. He joined up with Delaney Bramlett and his wife Bonnie for their tour in England. Delaney and Bonnie and Friends toured for a while. George Harrison also joined them for a while. They played a rootsy kind of sound. Some of the Dominos were in Delaney and Bonnie. When they first got together and were working on Layla, they went to see the Allman Brothers. They asked Duane Allman to sit in on the record and he played on several songs on the album. Duane also toured with Delaney and Bonnie. Many say that Derek Trucks is the reincarnation of Duane Allman. Some truth to tnat I think.
I believe the entire Layla and Assorted Love Songs was written when Clapton was secretly and madly- literally somewhat losing his mind- in love with George Harrison’s wife Patti Boyd. She is “Layla” but also check out the other songs- Nobody Knows You… Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad… Bell Bottom Blues… and on and on. I will also say that Layla and Assorted is, IMO, the single greatest album released by a band that only released one album. The greatest band touring today playing one of the greatest albums, from start to finish as a surprise for the crowd at Lock’n. Get the album of the performance
You guy's need to do Tedeshi Trucks Band "I Pity the Fool" Live Opehien (something like that) Susan will blow you away. She's not just a pretty face and great voice. She has guitar chops also.
Nobody but Tedeschi-Trucks can play this song like Eric Clapton. I really like Tedeschi Trucks so much and have some of their (vinyl) LPs. Everyone and of course the backing group are fantastic musicians - it just fits together! Thanks for sharing this great song performed by T.T.B. -> Best wishes @all from hamburg (germany)
The 2nd part of this song is one of the most beautifully written pieces. And man are they doing this song justice! Wow…thanks for helping me find this band!
This band! That's Trey Anastasio the front man to Phish playing guitar up there with Derek. Wow thanks for doing this. Never heard this version. Sounds premium!
Best cover ever of this absolute MASTERPIECE of a song! YO BROTHERS!! They used this song IN GOODFELLAS to transition to the dark times with the guys from big heist getting knocked off!
Love Derek’s little nod to Duane with his signature “bird tweets” at the end! Derek and Eric have a long history with Derek being in Clapton’s touring band for a while. The lefty playing guitar here is Doyle Bramhall II who toured with Clapton for years. As pointed out, Eric is not on stage here but Trey Anastasio is. If you haven’t found his bands “Phish” and “Trey Anastasio Band” you should! Another deep rabbit hole!!
Its so funny to watch you guys get more and more into TTB & blues guitars. Pretty soon you'll recognize who is playing lead just by the sound of the guitar. Its been a while, i hope you finally got out to see TTB live, their show is a life changer.
The magic is that Duane Allman (sky dog… Darek’s guiding light), played the slide in the studio version with Clapton bending strings. Both playing notes that don’t exist on the guitar
You guys need to do Anyday by TTB another Dominos cover. Singers are amazong and Derek does what only he can do. Btw the other guitarist here is Trey Anastasio of Phish not Clapton
Doyle Bramhall ll was also onstage with them here. He had high praise for Derek and Susan. Said they were fine people, the salt of the earth. Amen brother. Amen.
Y’all are right! Derek is the new king! And Susan is special! They’re the best band around for awhile now. Y’all should check out Backstage at the White House. It’s incredible!! Great reaction, guys!!
wait until you go back a bit, get into The Derek Trucks Band, will blow yer Mind,,,they are always evolving, is like a family of musicians, family gets bigger, family gets smaller, but such Awesome Music, Always!
You CAN see Derek and Clapton play with the ABB. They do several Derek & The Dominoes songs. Well worth the watch. Great reaction here! Keep up the good work, guys!
It's very difficult to hear this song and watch the band members play this song and not see DUANE ALLMAN in my mind.........almost impossible! RIP brother Duane. Derek and Trey Anastasio did the only thing they know how to do with a classic like this, THEY SMASHED IT OUT OF THE PARK! Great video. Gotta love the TTB. I thought Susan did a nice job with the lyrics. Thanks for reacting guys, always enjoy your reactions bc they are filled with so much enthusiasm.
They played the Greek theater with Los lobos August of 2022. They Will be back this summer. On TH-cam Check out the song "I pity the fool" from that very show. Will blow your mind....
THANK YOU..... THANK YOU ......... I was not aware of this version of "Layla". The lead singer is Susan Tedesch who is married to Derek Trucks the lead guitarist. Derek is, in my opinion, one of the best guitarist of his generation. His slide guitar work is as good as it gets. It's on a level with the late Duane Allman and that is saying something. Please feel free to go down the Tedeschi Trucks rabbit hole. You have my blessings. Great reaction, guys. Take care.
As has been mentioned that's Trey Anastasio playing next Derek, however there is a version where Derek played it with Clapton th-cam.com/video/2r5RguAebDU/w-d-xo.html

We live near Nashville and have seen Tedeshi-Trucks several times at the Mother Church of music, the Ryman Auditorium…intimate, great acoustics, two drummers, what a treat! Love that you appreciate them too…thank you for your insight!
Yes guys, I was wondering when you were going to meet the entire 12 piece band. That's Trey playing guitar with Derek. Your right though Eric Clapton did pass the Duane Allman torch to Derek when he was 13 after hearing him play that guitar lick 7/4/1993 opening for the Allman Brothers. He referred to him as the reincarnation of Eric's good friend Duane. Here's a song written by Eric Clapton and Bobby Whitlock for the Derek Trucks Band with Susan Tedeschi. "ANYDAY" th-cam.com/video/jiwktkw_rqE/w-d-xo.html
Someone down the way mentioned the left handed guitar player Doyle Bramhall II. Ya'll really need to check this cat out starting with his album Smokestack. Any song will do. He has also played with Roger Waters, Stevie's band Double Trouble,Clapton, and many others. Not only is he a great guitarist but he is one hell of a producer too having worked on Sheryl Crowe's albums and also Tedeschi Trucks.
I can't recall if I actually said this on another video, but check out Frank Zappa - Muffin Man Live. I had no idea he was a musical genius on the level of Prince and Stevie Wonder. He was a band leader/composer/guitarist. I just watched for the first time a few days ago. Checked out some interviews... Has to go down as a top 5 artist ever. Saw a tour of his house and it had three separate vaults FULL of recordings. This man was a LEGEND!!
My God that was tremendous! When I heard Derek Trucks playing that slide I said to myself holy s*** man it's Duane. Especially after seeing Tom Dowd breakdown Layla on the mixing board years ago. There was a sequence with Duane was just playing rapid fire slide, Derek Trucks just played that part exactly the same way, incredible!!
I'm going to their concert 2/28 and feel privileged to witness Derek Trucks live. He's the current best electric slide player among us and my current number one
@@AirplayBeats concert was amazing! Cool that I also met and talked with warm up act, the great Jack Broadbent from the UK. If you like Blues, he's an amazing one man busker talent
Clapton does not appear on this. That's Trey Anastasio from Phish. But also, Eric didn't play slide on the original recording. That was Duane Allman. He really made the song. So here you basically have Derek playing Duane's parts and Trey playing Clapton parts. Also, the woman is Susan Tedeschi. The band was named after Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. They are a married couple with two kids.
This is at the Lock'n Festival a few years ago. They performed the entire Layla and Other Love Songs album. My favorites off this show are Tell the Truth and Keep on Growing, which TTB plays at most of their concerts.
The first clue that wasn't Clapton was the guitar- for over 40 years he has exclusively played a Fender Stratocaster as his electric guitar. His acoustic is a Martin.
There's video on YT of Derek playing Layla with the Allman Brothers' opening act when he was 13 years old. He nailed it then too. That's not Clapton up there, btw. They've played together before numerous times in the Crossroads concerts but that's not him in this clip.
Tedeschi Trucks Band is Delaney& Bonnie and Friends reincarnated. Derek and the Dominos were a bastard stepchild of Delaney& Bonnie and Friends. Check out D&D and Friends, Only You Know and I Know, live A&R Radio with Duane and Greg Allman plus King Curtis. 1971. On that night Derek and the Dominos were on tour in Europe and other Friends George Harrison, Leon Russell and a host of others were playing Madison Square Garden, Concert for Bangladesh. All the best of the best wanted to be a Friend... even Jimi!!!
No doubt guys, you’ve gotta see them live! They’re fantastic! Another band that’s touring right now that you guys may love to see is Dead & Company. A little of the Grateful Dead with the addition of John Mayer on guitar. Great show as well!
TTB is the best band in the world, period. I'll fight you over it. Susan is the best female vocalist, and Derek is the best guitarist (and they both have been for 10+ years). Everyone in their huge band is a master at their craft. There is no weak point. Backup singers? Forget it - they are amazing and could have solo careers. Best horns in the world? TTB. Only band in the world with 2 drummers who never get in each other's way? TTB. Best bass player? TTB. Have you even heard Gabe Dixon on keys?! He's Elton John and Billy Joel and he's in THIS band, because he KNOWS how special this is. It's not just how good they all are individually, but how they all work together perfectly. I could go on and on. I've seen them live twice, and it is just astonishing. The ONLY reason they're not more famous is because they really only have 2 "hits" of their own, and because they'll never be on the radio, as if that means anything.
Okay so since that went well, I'll be so bold as to suggest another. Here's the sell: Top 10 Derek performance, continue that journey. It'll open the Dave Matthews door. Dave Matthews resonates heavily with people who were growing up in the nineties, his studio music seems simple at first listen, but his live shows carry on the legacy of bands like Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead, he's made for live performances. And you know Derek. He brings him out to play on a song that he's never played on before, and it changes the entire performance. Keep in mind that before he starts playing the entire audience is singing and hanging on Dave's every word, then it becomes the Derek Trucks show. Towards the end of his solo you can see him looking for others to take the reigns from him, but they MAKE him take the song all the way out and it's so perfect, such an example of humble musicians putting the art first. Sorry that's long. 🤷♂️ th-cam.com/video/AgUl79k5UNk/w-d-xo.html
That is actually Trey Anatasio on guitar...amazing player in is own right!
Sorry about that. I couldn’t really tell if it was Clapton or not but I searched Tedeschi and Clapton and this video came up quite a bit.

This is at the Lock'n Festival a few years ago. They performed the entire Layla and Other Love Songs album. My favorites off this show are Tell the Truth and Keep on Growing, which TTB plays at most of their concerts.
The end melody is classic to the Goodfellas.
The hottest band in America. See them when you can!
The first clue that wasn't Clapton was the guitar- for over 40 years he has exclusively played a Fender Stratocaster as his electric guitar. His acoustic is a Martin.
You need to do Midnight in Harlem live from them. It’s the best!!!
We did that one
Derek was child prodigy. He started playing guitar at age 5.He is one of the top 100 guitar players in the World according to Rolling Stone Magazine.
And Doyle Bramhall 3 is also playing guitar...he's in Eric's band!
Duane Allman, Derek Trucks and Lowell George make those slide guitars sing!!!
There's video on YT of Derek playing Layla with the Allman Brothers' opening act when he was 13 years old. He nailed it then too. That's not Clapton up there, btw. They've played together before numerous times in the Crossroads concerts but that's not him in this clip.
Their covers of Clapton and Derek and the Dominoes material is priceless! The Crossroads Festival performance of "Anyday" is stellar!
Guy's the song is from the movie Goodfellas...
The soow was Lockin 2019, they played the entire album
Yeah! That’s trey anastasio from Fish playing guitar! He’s another great player!
Derek would’ve been perfect for some Steely Dan stuff. He’s got that subtlety in his playing. Susan and Derek are married.
Love me some TTB ! Thanks guys ! Try some Samantha Fish - Bulletproof 👍👍
Y'all really should check out TT Band's "Midnight in Harlem." I promise you won't regret it!
The guy with glasses kinda looks like Clapton, but nah. He's actually in a band called Phish which is Grateful Dead-esque.
Okay so since that went well, I'll be so bold as to suggest another. Here's the sell:
Top 10 Derek performance, continue that journey.

Clapton not there but he loves Derek,
Took him on the World tour in 06 and invites him to all the crossworld festivals
It should be the soundtrack of a show...in a good way.
The movie Goodfellows this song was in, the Cadillac scene where the husband and wife got whacked sitting in their car.
TTB is the hottest band in the land!
If you are not aware they played the whole record live as their second set at Lockn. The recording is available as Layla at Lockn. Jawdropping.
