I love the way you come back to the same concept over and over again with a different take. We know how you personally draw a map but the way you approach each map drawing video both adds new ideas and reinforces the concepts you have previous presented. I love watching every video you make!
I used to attempt these maps but on hex grid back in my Moldvay days. Now I just make a general list of features and connect them through a point crawl. Still... Maps are fun just as an exercise. The process and the materials really don't matter. It's how the mind gets to wander through these spaces as you put them into being. Anyway, really fun video.
I love it JP! LotR maps are what first got me interested in fantasy maps and still set the standard for a good functional representation of a geographical area.
i like the moutains and hills. the marsh was a nice tip too. i like the pencil drawing of how to lay it out and then go back and finish the finer details. great video!
I have to say: your teachings and methods encouraged me to draw my own map. Thank you very much. I have no experience on this and always terrible at drawing.
Great stuff, as always. I like your map better because the red ink distinguishes the lettering from the black ink you used to detail the mountains, forests, etc.
Another awesome mapmaking video! I'm running a Pathfinder game in the base setting of Golarion, so there are already great maps, but I'm tempted to make my own map in this style anyway!
I really dig all your tips, I just hook in into your patreon love your stuff also please more postal dungeons I love the concept! pce looking foward that KS campaing!
How do you get rid of the pencil lines after you are done with the ink? I saw there were still some showing when you started with the ink but in the final version the paper looks clean!
"I hope I'm not making any Middle Earth fans mad changing these names" I wasn't mad until I saw Towerlon-- an old Elvish insult about my mother!? -- the epic blade Gurthang shall be sated on your trecherous blood! (Just kidding. Ace map as always, and I enjoy seeing how you break these styles down. The original Middle Earth maps have a fun charm to them.)\
Heck yeah!! I just ran a Lord of the Rings game!! Been thinking about drawing a new map of Middle Earth!
Would LOVE to see that. A more stylized middle earth map would be so cool!
I'd be interested in seeing an isometric one. Oh, and what era are you playing in?

You make it look so easy. I love your attention to details and how you changed the names just enough to keep things evocative of Middle Earth.
Those border lines are unbelievably straight!

I like to use white vinyl erasers. They are great at knocking out pencils.
@@JPCoovert Great, thanks!
That looks pretty legit though.
“I should have used a ruler for straighter lines”. Bro those are the straightest lines I’ve ever seen in my entire life drawn without a ruler
